For Medicare, the government would pay 80 percent of the cost of these services, with beneficiaries responsible for the remaining 20 percent, similar to other covered medical services. For Medicaid, food and nutrition services would become a mandatory benefit that all state Medicaid programs must offer. The specific requirements and standards for what qualifies as covered food and nutrition services would be determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Both changes would take effect 180 days after the bill is enacted into law.
