This bill requires the Attorney General to produce a comprehensive report on how to address mental health stigma among law enforcement officers and encourage them to seek help. The report, due within 270 days of the law's enactment, must identify effective strategies and best practices for reducing mental health stigma, promoting access to mental health screening and peer counseling, and protecting the confidentiality of mental health services for officers. The Attorney General must consult with other federal agencies including the FBI and the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, as well as stakeholders such as law enforcement agencies, mental health organizations, and labor representatives. The bill applies to all types of law enforcement officers including police, corrections, probation, and parole officers. The legislation does not appropriate any specific funding and focuses solely on gathering information and recommendations rather than establishing new programs or services.
