This bill requires the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board to finalize accessibility standards for electric vehicle charging stations within 18 months of enactment. The final rule must establish minimum accessibility requirements and guidelines for EV charging stations to ensure they are usable by people with disabilities. If the board fails to meet the 18-month deadline, the previously proposed rule from September 2024 automatically becomes final. Within six months after the final rule is published, the Secretary of Transportation and Attorney General must issue implementing regulations to adopt these accessibility guidelines. This legislation affects EV charging station owners and operators who will need to comply with the new accessibility standards, as well as people with disabilities who will benefit from improved access to charging infrastructure.
