This bill authorizes the U.S. Treasury to mint and sell commemorative coins honoring baseball legend Roberto Clemente, who broke racial barriers in Major League Baseball and was a humanitarian activist before his death in 1972. The Treasury would produce up to 50,000 gold $5 coins, 400,000 silver $1 coins, and 750,000 half-dollar clad coins, all available for sale during 2027 only. The coin designs would feature Clemente's image and commemorate his baseball career and civil rights activism, selected in consultation with the Clemente Foundation, his family, and the Commission of the Fine Arts. Sales would include surcharges of $35 per gold coin, $10 per silver coin, and $5 per half-dollar coin, with all surcharge revenue going to the Roberto Clemente Foundation for educational, youth sports, and disaster relief programs. The minting will cost the government nothing, as the sale prices and surcharges will cover all design and production expenses.
