The Find Our Families Act of 2026 requires the Department of Homeland Security to create and maintain a public online system where families can locate people detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The system must be searchable by alien registration number, name, or date and country of birth, available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and other commonly spoken languages, and updated within 8 hours of detention or transfer. The bill affects detained immigrants and their families by providing access to basic information about where detainees are held and how to contact facilities, while also requiring notification to family members within 5 hours when detainees are transferred for medical care. The legislation establishes penalties for employees who fail to comply, including potential furlough or suspension, and prohibits contract renewal with facilities that provide inaccurate or late information. Additionally, the bill requires the government to publicly report information about CBP arrests and submit detailed reports every 90 days to Congress on enforcement operations, including numbers of arrests with and without warrants and operational costs.
