The Shared Values Act is a comprehensive bill addressing numerous policy areas across agriculture, healthcare, education, and federal operations. The bill reauthorizes and expands the farmers' markets and local food promotion program, doubling federal funding to $100 million annually through 2026 and then to $50 million thereafter, while reserving 30 percent of funds for new farmers' markets in underserved areas. Additionally, the bill makes various other changes including expanding family and medical leave eligibility for congressional employees, requiring foreign election threat reporting, restricting federal grant funding for states that don't protect pregnant prisoners from restraints, and creating new programs related to plastic reduction in national parks, contraceptive access for veterans, and infrastructure maintenance at national laboratories. The bill also includes provisions for Amtrak baby changing tables and increases tax deductions for state and local taxes, among other measures.
