Who's In the Race
Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-AL) faces Democrat Amanda N. Pusczek in the November 3 general election in Alabama's 4th Congressional District. The race uses a new congressional map, though the district's partisan lean shifted only marginally under the redraw.
Aderholt has represented the district since 1997 and is serving his 15th term in Congress; he sits on the House Appropriations Committee and chairs its Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee. He won the May 19 Republican primary with about 78 percent of the vote over Tommy Barnes.
Pusczek is a registered nurse with more than a decade of clinical experience in hospitals, outpatient clinics, schools and correctional facilities. She won the May 19 Democratic primary with about 63 percent of the vote over Shane Weaver.
What They Stand For
Aderholt has proposed cutting taxes and slashing regulation to grow the economy and bring jobs back to the United States, according to his campaign website. He's also supported:
- Expanding oil and gas exploration and reopening the Keystone Pipeline to reduce energy prices,
- Increasing defense spending and modernizing military capabilities, including cyber and space defenses,
- Protecting Second Amendment rights and opposing gun-control measures he views as limiting those rights; and
- Opposing federal funding for abortions and restricting federal health coverage that includes abortion procedures.
Pusczek has proposed a federal stabilization plan for rural health care, including operating grants for rural hospitals and expanded access to maternal, mental-health and emergency services, according to her campaign website. She's also supported:
- Raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour, with future increases tied to inflation and regional cost of living,
- Passage of the PRO Act and stronger collective-bargaining protections, including a ban on mandatory anti-union meetings,
- Guaranteeing up to 12 weeks of paid, job-protected family and medical leave annually; and
- Strict federal limits on PFAS and PFOS chemicals in public water systems, with more federal funding for clean-water infrastructure.
Race Outlook: Ratings and Betting Markets
Cook Political Report rated the race Solid Republican as of Oct. 9; Sabato's Crystal Ball rated it Solid Republican as of Oct. 11; and Inside Elections rated it Solid Republican as of Oct. 2. On Kalshi, traders gave Republicans, whose nominee is Aderholt, a 99.3% chance of winning as of Oct. 15; Democrats, whose nominee is Pusczek, stood at 0.7%.
The district's history reinforces that picture. Aderholt won Alabama's 4th U.S. House District in 2022 with about 84 percent of the vote and in 2024 with about 99 percent. Republicans won six of Alabama's seven U.S. House seats in 2022 and five of seven in 2024. Donald Trump carried Alabama in the 2024 presidential election with about 65 percent of the vote.
