From Intern to Communications Director

Allie Herring has been promoted to Communications Director for the House Agriculture Committee, a position she assumed on April 1. Herring previously served as Press Secretary for the committee from September 2025 through March 2026, and interned there from January through May 2024.

In her new role, Herring works under the leadership of Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA-15), who chairs the House Agriculture Committee.

The Committee She Works In

Herring's promotion comes after the committee passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 on March 5, by a vote of 34 to 17. During her tenure as Press Secretary for the House Agriculture Committee, Herring worked on communications surrounding the markup and passage of the 2026 Farm Bill.

The 2026 Farm Bill included provisions that critics said would strip states of the ability to enact stricter pesticide and animal welfare protections. The committee also left in place cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that had been included in a prior budget bill. Food and agriculture advocacy groups argued the 2026 Farm Bill failed to address rising farm bankruptcies and economic pressures facing farmers.

Rep. Glenn Thompson introduced H.R. 9974 on July 27, and H.R. 9535 on June 30. He introduced H.R. 9535 on June 30, which modernizes the H-2A temporary agricultural worker visa program by removing seasonal work requirements, expanding eligible agricultural work types to include reforestation, aquaculture, and livestock work, and establishing a pathway for undocumented agricultural workers with 180 or more days of recent work experience.

Thompson also introduced H.R. 9974 on July 27, which makes farm and ranch workers eligible for Federal Direct Loan forgiveness programs. The bill has three cosponsors: one Republican and two Democrats.
