The Winner
If you live in Maryland's 1st U.S. House District, you will continue to be represented in Congress by Andy Harris (R-MD), who won reelection against Democrat Dan Schwartz, according to the Associated Press. The Associated Press called the race for Harris at 11:42 p.m. on Nov. 3. Harris received approximately 55.8% of the vote to Schwartz's 44.2%, according to preliminary returns, with vote counts still subject to change before certification.
Harris's victory keeps Maryland's only Republican-held U.S. House seat in GOP hands, even as Democrats won control of the House nationally. The result also gives Harris another term representing the Eastern Shore and surrounding communities, where Republicans have maintained a strong electoral advantage despite Schwartz's challenge.
