Rep. Jimmy Patronis (R-FL) has raised approximately $4.37 million for reelection in Florida's 1st Congressional District, compared with $276,000 for Democratic challenger Gay Valimont. That gives Patronis a nearly 16-to-1 fundraising advantage in a race rated Solid Republican.

The cash gap is wider still. As of Sept. 30, Patronis reported approximately $898,000 in cash on hand and no debt, while Valimont reported $37,000 in cash and no debt. Patronis won the Aug. 18 Republican primary with approximately 71% of the vote, defeating John Frankman and Douglas Chico. Valimont ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

The candidates' reported donor profiles differ significantly. CEOs contributed $169,000 to Patronis, followed by lawyers ($144,000), business owners ($119,000) and company presidents ($118,000). CEOs alone contributed more than eight times the approximately $19,500 attributed to Valimont's four leading occupational categories combined.

Physicians contributed $9,044 to Valimont, followed by business owners, doctors, and nonprofit directors, each at $3,500. Her leading occupational categories reflect support from medical, business, and nonprofit professionals.

Donors identified as retired or not employed reportedly contributed $368,000 to Patronis and $36,000 to Valimont, approximately a 10-to-1 difference. Contributions from other political committees accounted for approximately 15% of Patronis' receipts, compared with less than 1% of Valimont's.

Outside groups have reported approximately $2.3 million in independent expenditures associated with Florida's 1st District race, according to AllCiv. FEC-derived data identifies about $2.13 million supporting Patronis, $45,900 opposing him, and $95,800 supporting Valimont, though the spending spans different election periods.

Although fundraising alone does not determine election outcomes, Valimont held approximately 4.1% of Patronis' available campaign cash as of Sept. 30, leaving her with substantially fewer financial resources.
