The Winner

If you live in New York’s 16th Congressional District, Rep. George Latimer (D-NY)) will represent you for a second term. The Associated Press projected Latimer the winner over Republican Joseph Cinquemani, Patch reported.

Latimer had 77.6% of the vote to Cinquemani’s 22.0%, with about 47% of the expected vote counted, according to NBC News’ results. The win keeps the seat in Democratic hands.

The Race

Latimer faced no primary this year after no other Democrat filed to run, Yonkers Times reported. In 2024, he won the seat with 71.3% of the vote, months after beating then-Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the Democratic primary. Cook Political Report and Inside Elections rated this year’s race Solid Democratic, and Sabato’s Crystal Ball rated it Safe Democratic, according to Ballotpedia’s race page.

The district takes in much of southern Westchester County, including Yonkers, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains and Scarsdale, plus a small part of the northeast Bronx, according to the state’s district map. About 776,000 people live there, and the typical household earns about $104,000 a year. About 49% of adults hold at least a bachelor’s degree.

About 42% of residents are white, about 29% are Hispanic, about 21% are Black and about 6% are Asian. The unemployment rate is about 6%, and about 11% of residents live below the poverty line.

What’s Next

Many votes are still uncounted. Polling places across Westchester County had technical problems on Election Day, and the county is still scanning emergency ballots cast that day, the Westchester County Board of Elections said. Under state law, the county has 25 days after the election to release official results, and Latimer’s second term begins Jan. 3, 2027.
