Democrat Jon Buchwald has raised $191,410 in his campaign for Texas's 24th U.S. House District, according to the latest Federal Election Commission filings. But the bulk of that money came from his own pocket. Buchwald loaned his campaign $172,839, nearly 90% of the total receipts. Individual donors contributed just $18,551. He received no money from political action committees or party committees.

With almost all funds coming from personal loans, Buchwald has little outside organizational support so far. His campaign reported zero contributions from PACs and zero from party organizations. He has repaid $4,154 of his loans to date, leaving $168,685 in debt owed by the campaign. After spending $186,600, the campaign had just $4,810 cash on hand as of March 31. No outside spending was found for this candidate in the 2026 cycle.

Among all 2026 federal candidates in Texas, Buchwald's $191,410 in total receipts places him well outside the top tier. Texas candidates in this cycle have collectively raised more than $903.7 million, and Buchwald's haul represents a fraction of a percent of that statewide total. The top fundraisers in Texas far outpace him in both receipts and cash reserves.

James Talarico leads the state with $40,284,109 in receipts and $9,858,865 in cash on hand. Jasmine Crockett raised $11,092,295 in her District 00 race, while John Cornyn brought in $7,917,429 with $4,078,081 cash remaining. These figures reflect the financial gap that challengers in competitive districts often face against better-funded opponents.

Incumbents vs. Challengers

Incumbents running in Texas are generally raising far more money than challengers and open-seat candidates in the 2026 cycle. Buchwald, running as a challenger with no incumbent status, fits a familiar pattern: non-incumbents tend to start with less cash, fewer donor networks, and heavier reliance on self-funding. Among all candidates in the state, Democratic candidates have raised $107,432,926.96 while Republican candidates have brought in $103,319,089.15. Buchwald's modest fundraising reflects the structural disadvantage many challengers face early in the election cycle.
