The Race
The stage is set for a heavyweight bout in Maine's 2nd Congressional District. On one side, Republican Paul LePage, who claimed victory in the GOP primary on June 9. On the other hand, Democrat Matt Dunlap emerged from a crowded four-candidate Democratic primary the same day. Incumbent Democrat Jared Golden is also running as the party's nominee. Eight candidates total will appear on the November 3 general election ballot.
Ratings
Multiple rating organizations, including the Cook Political Report, assessed Maine's 2nd District as "Likely Republican" as of mid-June 2026.
Prediction Markets
As of June 29, betting odds on Kalshi gave Republicans a 66.02% probability of winning the seat. The market volume on Kalshi reached 18,747, indicating real money and real conviction behind those odds.
Experts vs. Markets
The expert consensus translates to roughly 55–65% GOP odds. Kalshi's 66% Republican probability sits right at the upper edge of that range. They're saying what the Cook Political Report and other election prediction markets are saying: Republicans are favored, but not by a landslide.
The race is leaning toward LePage and the GOP, but with Golden running for re-election and Dunlap as the official Democratic nominee, Democrats have a fighting chance. November 3 will tell us whether the prediction markets or the underdogs had it right.
