The Winner
If you live in California's 43rd U.S. House District, you will continue to be represented in Congress by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), who has been declared the winner of the congressional race, according to the Associated Press. The AP called the race for Waters on Nov. 3, though general election votes are still being counted and results have not been certified.
Waters' victory keeps the Los Angeles-area district in Democratic hands as Democrats prepare to take control of the House in January. As the ranking Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, Waters could return to the committee's chairmanship under the new Democratic majority, giving her a leading role in congressional oversight of banking, housing and financial regulation.
The Race
Republican Cristian Morales advanced through California's June 2 top-two primary, receiving 20,009 votes, or about 16.9% of the vote, to reach the general election ballot as Waters' only opponent. Waters finished first with 75,693 votes, or 63.8%. Cook Political Report rated the seat Solid Democratic heading into Election Day; Inside Elections also rated it Solid Democratic, and Sabato's Crystal Ball rated it Safe Democratic.
California's 43rd Congressional District has a reported population of about 729,900 residents, a median household income of about $75,700, and a median age of about 35.5, according to geographic data. About 22.3% of adults hold a bachelor's degree or higher; the district's population is about 58.7% Hispanic, 22.2% Black, 9.1% Asian, and 12.4% white, with an unemployment rate of about 8.4% and approximately 16.9% of residents living below the poverty line.

Waters said she requested funding for 20 district projects for inclusion in fiscal year 2027 appropriations legislation, covering water and sewer upgrades, housing, public safety, and health projects, according to an April 10 statement from the Office of Representative Maxine Waters.
