Who's In the Race

Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District seat is open for 2026, paving the way for a face off between Democratic incumbent Rep. Kelly Morrison (D-MN) and Republican challenger Tyler Bass on Nov. 3. Morrison is an OB-GYN who practiced in Minnesota for more than 20 years, then served in the Minnesota Senate from 2023 until resigning in June 2024. Morrison became the U.S. representative for Minnesota's 3rd District in January 2025. Bass is a small-business owner from Minnetonka, a licensed general contractor and former life and health insurance agent.

Morrison ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on Aug. 11. Bass won the Republican primary that same day, topping Quentin Wittrock.

What They Stand For

Morrison has pledged her support for lowering the cost of everyday needs including health care and housing, according to her official House website. She has also supported protecting reproductive rights, drawing on her background as a practicing OB-GYN, opposed cuts to health care programs, and proposed pushing back against the Trump administration and congressional Republicans' health-care agenda. Morrison sits on the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs and the House Committee on Small Business.

Bass says Minnesota has emphasized investigating fraud and oversight of public programs, according to his campaign website. Bass has also proclaimed his support for the SAVE America Act, which would require voters to present proof of citizenship and photo ID at the polls. On COVID, Bass says that he has not received a vaccine nor does he plan to, and criticizes Morrison's support for vaccination and lockdown on his campaign website.

The Money Behind the Race

Federal Election Commission filings show Morrison raised about $1.4 million through July 22 and had about $414,000 in cash on hand. Bass had not reported any receipts or cash on hand in FEC filings.
