The Vote
One of the busiest and most case-heavy federal districts in the country will soon have a new judge. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) voted on June 24 to confirm John George Edward Marck as judge to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Marck is known for his position as former Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and as a prosecutor of cases involving illegal reentry after deportation and cartel-related crimes. The Senate confirmation vote fell almost entirely along party lines, and the nomination passed.
- Republicans: 52 Yes, 0 No, 1 not voting
- Democrats: 0 Yes, 43 No, 2 not voting
- Independents: 0 Yes, 2 No
Murkowski voted yes, in line with her party. She has served in the Senate since 2003 and represents Alaska's statewide Senate seat. She has missed 28 votes this Congress, and four votes since April.
