The Vote

One of the busiest and most important federal districts in the country will soon have a new judge, but Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was not on board. Sanders, an Independent who caucuses with Democrats, did not break from the broader opposition bloc on June 24. He voted against the confirmation of John George Edward Marck as judge to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Marck, who is known for his position as former Assistant District Attorney in New York City and as a prosecutor of cases involving illegal reentry after deportation and cartel-related crimes, was confirmed. The Senate vote fell almost entirely along party lines.

  • Democrats: 0 Yes, 43 No, 2 not voting
  • Independents: 0 Yes, 2 No

Sanders has served in Congress for 40 years. He has missed 62 votes this Congress, and four since April.
