The Winner

If you live in Ohio's 12th U.S. House District, you will continue to be represented in Congress by Troy Balderson, a Republican, who has been declared the winner of the 2026 congressional race, according to The New York Times, which reported the Associated Press call. The general election was held Nov. 3, and results are still being counted and have not yet been certified by the Ohio Secretary of State's office, so vote figures are preliminary.

The Race

Jerrad Shane Christian, the Democratic opponent, advanced through his party's May 5, 2026 primary to reach the general election ballot. Cook Political Report rated the seat Solid Republican heading into Election Day; Inside Elections also rated it Solid Republican, and Sabato's Crystal Ball rated it Safe Republican.

The district spans eleven counties and has a total population of about 798,482, according to Geographies data for the district. About 88.6 percent of residents identify as white, with a median household income of about $76,493, a median age of about 39.6 years, and roughly 27.6 percent of adults holding a bachelor's degree or higher. The district's unemployment rate is about 3.9 percent, and about 11.6 percent of residents live below the poverty line.
