The Winner

If you live in Montana's 2nd U.S. House District, you will continue to be represented in Congress by Rep. Troy Downing (R-MT), who has been declared the winner of the congressional race, according to the Associated Press. The Associated Press called the race at 9:18 p.m. on Nov. 3.

According to unofficial results from the Montana Secretary of State as of Nov. 5, Downing received 127,291 votes, or 58.2%, defeating Democrat Brian Miller, who received 70,409 votes, or 32.2%. Independent Michael Eisenhauer received 17,077 votes, or 7.8%, while Libertarian Patrick McCracken received 4,000 votes, or 1.8%. Downing led Miller by 56,882 votes, or approximately 26 percentage points. All 383 precincts had reported, although the results remained unofficial pending certification.

Downing's victory secures his second term representing Montana's eastern congressional district and keeps the seat in Republican hands as Democrats regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives. The shift in House control will place Downing in the minority for the first time since he entered Congress in January 2025, reducing Republicans' influence over committee leadership, the legislative agenda and congressional oversight.
