The Vote
Rep. Angie Craig, a Democrat representing Minnesota's 2nd district, cast her vote in favor of a measure aimed at ending American military involvement in Lebanon. The House voted on a resolution June 30 directing the President to withdraw U.S. Armed Forces from hostilities in Lebanon within seven days of adoption.
The congressional floor vote measure, introduced by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI-12), failed to advance. Rep. Craig aligned with the majority of her party, which supported the resolution. Democrats voted 187 in favor and 22 against, while Republicans voted 2 in favor and 212 against. Overall, the resolution received 189 votes in favor and 235 votes against in the House, falling short of passage. One Independent also voted against the resolution.
H.Con.Res.108 directs the President to remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities in Lebanon pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution. The resolution would require withdrawal of U.S. Armed Forces from Lebanon within seven days of adoption, while preserving the ability to continue security cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces and protect American diplomatic facilities. It does not authorize new military action.
The resolution was introduced on June 3 and referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. It attracted 43 Democratic cosponsors, with no Republican cosponsors.
