I appreciate @POTUS and @epaleezeldin for their continued support of American biofuels and for taking action to strengthen our nation’s energy independence. Today’s announcement is welcome news for America's biofuel producers, providing the certainty they need to grow our homegrown energy industry. This also marks an important victory for our farmers, rural communities, and American consumers looking for lower prices at the pump.
Today, Congressman Adrian Smith (NE-03) released the following statement after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a supplemental rule to preserve Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) volume requirements for 2026 and 2027: “I appreciate President Trump and Administrator Zeldin for their continued support of American biofuels and for taking action to strengthen our nation’s energy independence. Today’s announcement is welcome news for America's biofuel producers, providing the certainty they need to grow our homegrown energy industry. This also marks an important victory for our farmers, rural communities, and American consumers looking for lower prices at the pump.” Background: On October 9, Smith and Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (D-IL) led a bipartisan letter with 37 colleagues to U.S. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright urging the administration to propose a supplemental rule by October 16, 2026, ensuring obligated volumes for 2026 and 2027 remain consistent with the Renewable Fuel Standard’s Set 2 projections.
To the men and women who feed and fuel our world, happy National Farmer’s Day! https://t.co/1fdmqnMQrM
Honored to welcome @DrOzCMS to the Good Life yesterday to visit Memorial Community Hospital in Blair! We had a great discussion about the needs of rural healthcare providers and ways we can work together to ensure every Nebraskan has access to quality care close to home. https://t.co/65JyefDC0k
Yesterday, Congressman Adrian Smith (NE-03) joined Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz for a tour of Memorial Community Hospital and Health System, a critical access hospital in Blair. During the tour, Smith and Oz met with hospital staff to discuss the challenges facing rural healthcare providers and opportunities to strengthen access to care through telemedicine, support rural healthcare workforce development, and advance initiatives like the Rural Health Transformation Program. "Critical access hospitals like Memorial Community Hospital play a vital role in the communities they serve, by ensuring patients have access to quality care close to home. I am grateful to have strong partners like Administrator Oz who take the time to visit rural communities, listen to healthcare providers, and understand the challenges they face. I look forward to continuing to work together to strengthen rural healthcare and ensure every Nebraskan has access to quality care, regardless of their ZIP code,”said Congressman Smith. "Rural health systems have been underfunded and under resourced for decades, but thanks to President Trump’s Rural Health Transformation Program, we’re empowering states to tackle that problem head-on by making the investments these communities need,”said CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz.“I’m grateful to Congressman Smith for meeting with me and to Memorial Community Hospital for hosting us, so that together, we can discuss the improvements RHTP dollars are already driving and how additional funding can build on that progress over the remaining four years of the program.” "We are glad to be part of efforts to strengthen healthcare access in rural communities. We appreciate Congressman Smith and Dr. Oz taking the time to visit MCH and hear directly from the providers and caregivers serving patients every day. These conversations help ensure that rural voices are heard and that policy decisions reflect the realities facing rural healthcare, allowing us to continue providing high-quality care close to home,”said Memorial Community Hospital and Health System President and CEO Manuela Banner.
Today, U.S. Representatives Adrian Smith (R-NE) and Nikki Budzinski (D-IL), led a bipartisan letter with 37 of their colleagues to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin and U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright urging the administration to maintain its commitments to America’s biofuel industry. In the letter, the lawmakers ask the administration to uphold its commitment to American grown energy by proposing a supplemental rule that preserves the integrity of the Renewable Fuel Standard’s (RFS) biofuel volume requirements for 2026 and 2027 by October 16, 2026. They warn that delays would undermine much-needed market certainty for American farmers and biofuel producers while putting savings at the pump for American families at risk. The lawmakers write: "The stakes for our constituents could not be higher. Biofuel demand keeps commodity prices competitive for farmers, sustains tens of thousands of rural manufacturing jobs, and delivers measurable savings at the pump for working families. E15 saves drivers an average of 30 cents per gallon compared to E10. B20 biodiesel runs approximately 11 cents cheaper than regular diesel. The 2026 and 2027 volumes in Set 2 were built to capture these cost-savings at scale, but SREs alongside a flawed reallocation approach would erase them." In addition to Smith and Budzinski, the letter was signed by U.S. Representatives Sharice Davids (D-KS), Ashley Hinson (R-IA), Emmanuel Cleaver (D-MO), Angie Craig (D-MN), Ann Wagner (R-MO), Eric Sorensen (D-IL), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), Randy Feenstra (R-IA), Zach Nunn (R-IA), Brad Finstad (R-MN), Darin LaHood (R-IL), Jim Baird (R-IN), Michelle Fischbach (R-MN), Mike Bost (R-IL), Robin Kelly (D-IL), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Kristen McDonald Rivert (D-MI), Mary Miller (R-IL), Wesley Bell (D-MO), Derrick Van Orden (R-WI), Mark Alford (R-MO), James Comer (R-KY), Jonathan Jackson (D-IL), John Rose (R-TN), Derek Schmidt (R-KS), Don Bacon (R-NE), Lauren Underwood (D-IL), Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.), Mark Messmer (R-IN), Rudy Yakym (R-IN), Shontel Brown (D-OH), Mark Pocan (D-WI), Mike Flood (R-NE), Haley Stevens (D-MI), Max Miller (R-OH), Julie Fedorchak (R-N.D.), and Donald Davis (D-N.C.). Read the full letter here or below: Administrator Zeldin and Secretary Wright: The Set 2 Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) are the strongest in the history of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), supporting a much-needed market for American farmers, feedstock processors, biofuel producers, and rural economies. Our constituents responded to that call to action with investment, expansion, and hiring across the biofuels value chain. Further, the administration’s commitment to reallocate the waived Small Refinery Exemption (SRE) volumes announced on August 31, 2026, reinforced this market signal. We write today to urge swift action to propose a supplemental rule by October 16th which ensures obligated volumes are in line with those announced under Set 2 for compliance years 2026 and 2027. Until the supplemental rule process is complete, the market will not be able to fully respond, putting the momentum of the Set 2 RVO, and the lower fuel prices that homegrown biofuels provide for American families, at risk. The stakes for our constituents could not be higher. The 2026 and 2027 volumes in Set 2 were built to capture these cost-savings at scale, but SREs alongside a flawed reallocation approach would erase them. Now more than ever, our biofuels policy must deliver certainty for American farmers, feedstock processors, biofuels producers, and consumers. We stand ready to work with you in implementing a supplemental rule which is consistent with Set 2 projections, and encourage you to ensure that DOE conducts meaningful, transparent engagement with biofuel stakeholders on any methodology change for adjudicating future SREs.
Today, I led a letter with @RepNikkiB and 37 colleagues urging @EPALeeZeldin and @SecretaryWright to build on the admin’s historic support for American biofuels by issuing a supplemental rule that provides much-needed certainty for biofuel producers and consumers. Pleased to see Governor Hochul opt into my Federal Scholarship Tax Credit which I fought to secure in the @TaxCuts to expand educational opportunities for ALL families. Let me be clear—taking advantage of my tax credit is common sense, not a political debate.
Fans expect college athletics to be played the right way. Unfortunately, as they have evolved over the last few years, there have been well-documented cases nationwide of players and coaches trying to go beyond the spirit of the sport. That's why I introduced my Fair Play Enforcement Act to address these concerns and keep college athletics on a level playing field. Read more in my column this week: https://t.co/dFcmKjWBEd
On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists carried out a barbaric attack against Israel and its people. Today, we mourn the innocent lives that were lost and reaffirm our commitment to fighting antisemitism wherever it exists.
Today, U.S. Representatives Adrian Smith (R-NE-03) and Brendan F. Boyle (D-PA-02), members of House Ways and Means Committee, introduced the Fair Play Enforcement Act, to protect the integrity of college athletics by holding colleges and universities accountable for fielding athletes who violate established standards of fair competition. “College athletics have a long history of bringing people together, fostering competition, and teaching us what it means to represent something bigger than ourselves. Unfortunately, recent developments continue to put the values and traditions that make college sports unique at risk. I introduced my Fair Play Enforcement Act to ensure that colleges and universities uphold fair competition and preserve the values that have long defined college athletics for generations to come,” said Smith. “College sports depend on honesty and fair play. Schools should not be fielding players who have bet on games or who have been on professional sports teams. Our commonsense legislation creates a financial consequence for schools that cross that line and helps protect the integrity of college athletics,” said Boyle. BACKGROUND: The Fair Play Enforcement Act holds colleges and universities accountable for fielding athletes who violate the standards of collegiate competition. The legislation would impose an excise tax penalty on a school that knowingly or reasonably should have known it was fielding a player in a sanctioned competition who: Gambled on collegiate sports; or Signed a contract with and was rostered by a professional sports team in the same sport in which the player subsequently competed at the collegiate level. Excise Tax Penalty: If a school is found in violation, the legislation would impose an excise tax based on a percentage of the institution’s total gross athletic revenue, including but not limited to ticket sales, media rights, conference and postseason distributions, sponsorships, licensing and merchandising, athletic donations, concessions, and other revenue attributable to the athletic program. Safeguards: Documented determination: Requires a final, documented determination from the appropriate governing body, such as the NCAA, that the player violated the applicable prohibition before a penalty may be imposed. School knowledge: Applies only when a college or university knew or reasonably should have known that it was fielding a player who violated the applicable standard. Judicial safe harbor: Provides a safe harbor when a court orders a school to roster or field a player who would otherwise be subject to the prohibition.
Every child deserves the love, stability, and support of a family. In my latest column, I highlight Jenna and Robert Stoner of Holdrege, this year’s Angels in Adoption honorees for Nebraska’s Third District, and my latest efforts to support Nebraska families at every stage. https://t.co/QYQPFry50U
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) announced Jenna and Robert Stoner of Holdrege will be honored with the 2026 Angels in Adoption Award for Nebraska’s Third District. “Through nurturance and care, Jenna and Robert Stoner ensured that their adoptive children felt safe and loved during a pivotal time in their lives. Their continued compassion and commitment are a powerful example of the love and stability a family can provide, and I am honored to recognize them as the 2026 recipients of the Angels in Adoption award,” said Smith. BACKGROUND: The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s Angels in Adoption Leadership Program provides Members of Congress the opportunity to honor an individual or entity from their district which has made an extraordinary contribution on behalf of children in need of homes. The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to raising awareness about the millions of children around the world in need of permanent, safe, and loving homes.
I am eager to see this project advance through the permitting process and look forward to working with the administration to expand the production of American-made fertilizer while creating new jobs and opportunities for Nebraska's Third District!
Hard work should pay off. That’s why I supported the Working Families Tax Cuts — putting real relief back in the hands of working families. https://t.co/HaXoqQr01U
I passed my Federal Scholarship Tax Credit to expand educational opportunities for ALL students. Now, with @USTreasury’s guidance, married couples filing jointly can claim up to $3,400—not just $1,700. Opening the door to more than $75 billion in potential scholarship donations!
Today I sat down with members of the Alzheimer’s Association in Scottsbluff to hear firsthand about the devastating impact of this disease on individuals, families and the community. We discussed the importance of early detection, expanding access to resources, and finding ways to better support patients and caregivers.
Congratulations to my fellow Nebraskan, Greg Ibach, on his nomination to serve as Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at @USDA. Greg has always fought for Nebraska’s agriculture producers, and I know he’ll bring that same dedication to this important role.
