Las nuevas mejoras de accesibilidad en la estación de metro 137 St-City College permiten que las personas mayores, las personas con discapacidad, los padres con cochecitos y los miles de estudiantes que pasan por esta estación accedan a un transporte fiable y con menos barreras. West Harlem merece un sistema de transporte que funcione para todos, y es fundamental que todas las estaciones de nuestro distrito y de toda la ciudad de Nueva York sean totalmente accesibles.

The new accessibility upgrades to 137 St-City College Subway means that seniors, people with disabilities, parents with strollers, and the thousands of students who come through this station can access reliable transportation with fewer barriers. West Harlem deserves a transit system that works for everyone, and it is crucial every station in our district and across New York City is fully accessible.

I’m outraged by the attacks on @Ilhan and the communities she represents. No elected official or immigrant community should be targeted to serve a political agenda. The Trump administration has weaponized the federal government to intimidate elected leaders, spread hatred, and undermine our democracy, and this is unacceptable. I spoke with @cbsnews about meeting the 5-year-old boy who was in the backseat when his father was shot by ICE. While the child is safe, his family remains shaken and deeply fearful. No child should have to experience this kind of trauma. We need answers, transparency, and accountability for what happened in our community.

El ICE no puede escudarse en insultos hacia el hombre al que dispararon. Los agentes dispararon varias veces contra un vehículo en el que viajaba un niño de 5 años, poniendo en mayor peligro a toda una familia. Ahora sabemos que sus cámaras corporales estaban encendidas. Publiquen las imágenes. Exigimos verdad, transparencia y rendición de cuentas.

El ICE ha sembrado el caos y la destrucción y, lamentablemente, ha devastado a otra familia más aquí en nuestra ciudad. Aunque logré entrar al hospital y llegar a la habitación de la víctima, el ICE me impidió el acceso para verificar su estado. Los agentes también están negando las visitas de su familia. Seguiré intentando conseguir que la familia pueda verlo. Esta noche también conocí al hijo de 5 años de la víctima, quien se encontraba angustiado y traumatizado tras presenciar este horrendo suceso. Muchos detalles sobre el tiroteo aún no están claros, pero debemos mantenernos firmes en la necesidad de exigir rendición de cuentas al ICE y poner fin a la imprudencia y la destrucción que esta agencia, que actúa sin control, ha provocado en ciudades de todo el país.

Hablé con @cbsnews sobre mi encuentro con el niño de 5 años que iba en el asiento trasero cuando su padre recibió un disparo por parte de ICE. Aunque el niño está a salvo, su familia sigue conmocionada y profundamente atemorizada. Ningún niño debería tener que vivir este tipo de trauma. Necesitamos respuestas, transparencia y rendición de cuentas por lo ocurrido en nuestra comunidad.

ICE has created chaos and havoc, and unfortunately devastated yet another family here in our city. While I was able to enter the hospital and reached the victim’s room, ICE denied me from entering to check on his wellbeing. The agents are also denying his family’s visitation. I will keep trying to gain access for the family. Tonight, I also met the victim’s 5-year-old son, who was distraught and traumatized after witnessing this horrific event. Many of the facts about the shooting remain unclear, but we must be clear headed about holding ICE accountable and bringing an end to this rogue agency’s recklessness and destruction we have witnessed in cities across our country.

I’m at the scene and being briefed by the NYPD following this afternoon’s shooting involving federal law enforcement agents in The Bronx. I am demanding all body camera footage and evidence be preserved, a full investigation with full cooperation from the federal government, and accountability. ICE is a rogue agency that must be reigned in.

Today, we remember and mourn the lives lost and the families who lives were forever changed because of the October 7th terrorist attack. May we continue to reflect and recognize the profound human cost of that tragedy and its aftermath. May we honor those we lost by holding on to our shared humanity, rejecting hatred, and working toward a future where every person can live in safety, dignity and peace.

Looking back on a special night at the CHCI Gala, where I was honored with the Legacy Award. This recognition means so much to me because of the people, communities, and experiences that have shaped my journey. From my roots to the halls of Congress, I’ve carried my community with me every step of the way. I’m deeply grateful to CHCI for this honor and, most importantly, for the opportunity to continue building a future where Latino voices are heard, our stories are valued, and our communities have a seat at the table.

Recuerdo de una noche tan especial en la Gala del CHCI, en la que tuve el honor de recibir el Premio al Legado. Este reconocimiento significa mucho para mí por las personas, las comunidades y las experiencias que han forjado mi trayectoria.
