It was an honor to recognize Evelyn Margolin of Cameron Ranch Elementary School in Carmichael as our October Educator of the Month! For 25 years, Evelyn served as a special education teacher in the San Juan Unified School District. Throughout her career, she championed inclusive education, supported families, and helped ensure students of all abilities had the opportunity to succeed. Even in retirement, she continues to give back through Margolin’s Garden of Learning, a garden she founded where she teaches weekly lessons in science, nutrition, and environmental stewardship to students from transitional kindergarten through fifth grade. As the son of a public school teacher, I know firsthand the lasting impact that dedicated educators have on our children and communities. Thank you, Evelyn, for your decades of service and continued commitment to the next generation of learners!

Trump’s war with Iran is driving up gas and diesel prices, fueling inflation, and raising costs for families across the Sacramento region. The impact goes far beyond the gas pump. Higher fuel prices make it more expensive to produce and transport goods, increase operating costs for businesses, and ultimately drive up prices on everyday essentials. We must end this reckless war and bring down costs for the American people. https://t.co/MoPjPukR2U

Janine and I had a great time at the California Capital Airshow this weekend at Mather Airport! The Sacramento region has a proud history of aviation and military service. This year’s airshow celebrated that legacy, honored our veterans and service members, and inspired the next generation of aviators, engineers, and STEM innovators. Congratulations to Darcy Brewer and the entire California Capital Airshow team on 20 years of bringing this incredible event to our region!

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Native peoples in Sacramento County and across our nation. Sacramento County is the proud home of Wilton Rancheria, our county’s only federally recognized tribe. Under the leadership of my friend and Sacramento native Chairman Jesus Tarango, the tribe continues to preserve its heritage, strengthen our local economy, and serve as an important partner in our community. I’m grateful for Chairman Tarango’s leadership and look forward to our continued efforts to strengthen our region for generations to come.

Public executions are the hallmark of oppressive regimes, not free democracies. This latest display of deeply disturbing judgment from Secretary Hegseth only strengthens the case for Congress to hold him accountable.

For 25 years, the Regional Water Authority has brought together water providers and affiliates across the greater Sacramento region to strengthen the reliability, quality, and affordability of our water supply for the 2.2 million people they serve. Their work has helped residents use water more efficiently and supported major investments in groundwater storage to strengthen our region’s long-term water resilience. I was honored to join the RWA’s 25th anniversary celebration in Sacramento to present Executive Director Jim Peifer with a Congressional Record statement recognizing this important milestone. Congratulations to the Regional Water Authority on 25 years of regional leadership and service to our community!

I had the honor of recognizing Bob McGarvey as my office’s October Veteran of the Month yesterday at Rancho Cordova City Hall. Bob served our nation in the Air Force from 1961 to 1967, including two and a half years of active duty at Mather Air Force Base and two years in the Air Force Reserve. That commitment has continued through decades of service to Rancho Cordova in local schools, civic organizations, and community life. Thank you, Bob, for your service to our nation and for your dedication to making Rancho Cordova a great place to live. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

My District Chief of Staff Matt Ceccato was honored to join the return ceremony for the Sacramento-based 319th Expeditionary Signal Battalion following the battalion’s deployment during the Iran war. Throughout their deployment, these Soldiers carried out a demanding mission, maintaining critical communications across multiple countries under difficult conditions. At the ceremony, Matt had the privilege of recognizing six Purple Heart recipients on my behalf and presented each of them with a congressional challenge coin. We owe an enduring debt of gratitude to these brave men and women in uniform, and to the families who supported them throughout their deployment. Welcome home, and thank you for your service and sacrifice to our nation. 🇺🇸

Since Prop 50 passed, I've been showing up in communities across the new Third Congressional District — from South Lake Tahoe and Truckee to Auburn, Loomis, Colfax, and Nevada City — to listen, ask questions, and get to know the people who call these communities home. If I have the privilege of representing CA-03 in Congress come January, I will be prepared to hit the ground running and represent every community in this district from Day 1.

I welcome Xi Jinping’s invitation for 100,000 American students to visit and study in China. As Co-Chair of the Congressional International Exchanges Caucus, I believe educational and cultural exchanges are an important way to build mutual understanding and expertise. But those exchanges depend on trust and the ability to study, speak, and engage without fear of harassment or arbitrary detention. Right now, American scholar Min Zin remains wrongfully detained in China, and Beijing continues to target scholars, human rights advocates, and diaspora communities whose work or speech it finds unwelcome. If President Xi wants more Americans to study in China, releasing Min Zin would be an important first step toward creating the conditions that make genuine cultural and educational exchange possible between our two nations.

My previous run-in with @thecapitolfox wasn’t a fun experience, but I was fortunate to have access to readily available and low-cost rabies vaccines. But for far too many Americans, an unfortunate run-in like mine could break the bank. That’s why I introduced legislation last Congress to lower the costs of rabies vaccines for uninsured individuals. High costs should never be a barrier for individuals seeking life-saving treatment.
