Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to speak at the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at Sharon Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. It was a good morning of fellowship and a reminder that iron sharpens iron. We must keep encouraging our men and preparing the next generation to lead. https://t.co/5ALCaGli1z

Political affiliation should never matter more than the character of the person leading our country. Leadership requires honesty, integrity, and accountability, not corruption. We must never lose sight of the values that matter most.

It is completely unacceptable for ICE to refuse to have their new body worn cameras automatically activate. I will be introducing legislation to ensure all DHS cameras have the recommended automatic activation. ICE is not above accountability.

It was an honor to celebrate Mississippi’s own Bobby Rush at the 10th Annual Mules & Blues Fest in Quitman County. I had the privilege of presenting him with the Key to Quitman County in recognition of his lasting contributions to the blues and Mississippi’s rich musical heritage. Congratulations, Bobby, on this well-deserved recognition.

More than $43 billion in taxpayer dollars has already been spent on President Trump’s war with Iran, while Americans struggle to afford groceries and gas. The American people deserve leadership focused on lowering costs and meeting their needs. Enough is enough. This war must end.

For nearly a year, DOJ and the FBI have dodged our questions about NSPM-7 and their plans to treat opposition to Trump as domestic terrorism. Blanche and Patel must answer to the Homeland Committee. They cannot target Americans for their beliefs and hide from Congress. https://t.co/VXHCqrpXwR

Domestic violence affects millions of Americans each year, and no one should have to face it alone. This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, let us continue raising awareness, supporting survivors, and making sure those experiencing abuse know help is available. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE. #DVAM2026 #WithSurvivors

The Trump Administration stopped accepting new enrollments in the Veterans Affairs Servicing Purchase program, which had helped more than 17,000 veterans and their families avoid foreclosure. Ending this assistance removed a critical lifeline for veterans struggling to keep their homes. Our commitment to those who served must extend beyond their time in uniform. Veterans deserve meaningful support to keep a roof over their families’ heads.

About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Men can also develop the disease. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we recognize the importance of early detection, recommended screenings, and access to timely treatment. The Trump Administration’s proposed cuts to medical research and cancer screening programs threaten this progress. We must protect these investments and ensure everyone has access to the care they need.

House Republicans canceled votes weeks ago and sent us home early for a seven-week recess ahead of the midterm elections—all to avoid a vote on impeaching Pete Hegseth. I was in Washington last week meeting with constituents from Mississippi’s Second Congressional District because there is still important work to do. Thank you to everyone who took the time to meet with me in D.C. this week.

I was glad to join the citizens of Coffeeville Saturday to discuss the upcoming November 3rd election and the issues that matter most to our community. Thank you to the City of Coffeeville for giving me the opportunity to hear from residents and discuss the importance of making our voices heard at the ballot box. I appreciate everyone who came out and took part in the conversation.

Trump has always sold Americans false promises while putting himself first. He has never made the best interests of the American people his priority. Shame on him!

Republicans are cutting the federal share of SNAP administrative costs from 50% to 25%, forcing Mississippi to pay more to process and deliver benefits. That means $16.9 billion less in federal SNAP spending over five years. At a time when families are already struggling to put food on the table, we should be strengthening programs that matter the most.

Congressman Thompson Responds to Liquidation of Jackson Area Federal Credit Union

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) issued the following statement following notification from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) that Jackson Area Federal Credit Union (JAFCU) has been liquidated and that Five Star Credit Union has assumed its member share accounts: “Jackson Area Federal Credit Union has served thousands of families, public employees, and members of the Jackson and Hinds County communities for decades. The liquidation of this longstanding institution is a serious development, and my primary concern remains protecting the members who entrusted their hard-earned money to this credit union. “NCUA has assured my office that members transferring to Five Star Credit Union will experience no interruption in service and that federally insured accounts remain protected through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. Members deserve a transition that is orderly, transparent, and protects their access to their money. “While protecting members must come first, the liquidation of Jackson Area Federal Credit Union also raises serious questions about the circumstances that brought the institution to this point. My office will continue engaging with NCUA to ensure there is full transparency and accountability regarding what occurred, how members were affected, and what steps are being taken to protect them moving forward.” On September 30, NCUA facilitated a partial purchase and assumption agreement under which Five Star Credit Union purchased certain JAFCU assets and assumed its member share accounts. NCUA subsequently liquidated JAFCU.

Using taxpayer dollars to bankroll Trump’s political ads is a shameless abuse of public funds. Donald Trump should pay every last cent back to the American taxpayer.

Too many red states are struggling with child poverty, maternal and infant mortality, and poor healthcare outcomes because Republican lawmakers vote against policies that could address these crises. You can’t say you hear people’s cries while voting against their needs.

Changes passed by the Republican-controlled Congress and signed into law by President Trump affect federal student aid, including Pell Grant eligibility and how much some students and parents can borrow. For those planning to attend college, career school, or trade school during the 2027–28 school year, it is important to understand how these changes may affect financial aid. Nearly 1 in 4 Mississippians rely on Medicaid, and it covers more than half of all births in our state. It is a lifeline for mothers, children, seniors, people with disabilities, and rural communities. Yet Republicans passed H.R. 1, cutting Medicaid and putting health coverage at risk for millions. I was the only member of Mississippi’s congressional delegation to vote against it and remain the only member who supports Medicaid expansion.
