Happy Homecoming, NSU! For generations, HBCUs like Norfolk State have developed leaders across Virginia and our nation. Investing in these institutions means investing in the leaders of tomorrow, and I’m proud to continue that work in Congress Go Spartans! #NSUHomecoming #HBCU https://t.co/xhoBUXWIdL
More than 500 young people mentored, 300 scholarships awarded, and 100 college graduates. That’s the record of 100 Black Men of the Virginia Peninsula. Glad to join them for breakfast in Newport News and celebrate the work they’re doing to open doors for young people across our community. Thanks for all that you do.
As originally released by the Committee on Education and Workforce, Democrats WASHINGTON – Today, House Education and Workforce Committee Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA-03) urged the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Inspector General to investigate HHS’s potential submission of inconsistent or fraudulent information in active litigation. On February 6, 2025, Ranking Member Scott called on the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to assess the security of HHS's information technology (IT) systems after reports that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) accessed data from various government agencies. However, HHS has refused to comply with GAO’s requests, citing potential discrepancies between what was produced in litigation and would be provided to GAO. Furthermore, during the Committee’s oversight hearing on April 17, 2026, Secretary Kennedy could not provide a clarification when questioned by Ranking Member Scott whether the Department is providing false or inaccurate information in litigation and failed to follow up with information on the matter. “On May 17, 2026, I wrote to Secretary Kennedy to follow-up and request a detailed explanation about what the Department meant when it informed GAO that it could not cooperate or accommodate an observational walkthrough, artifacts, screenshots, and other documentation out of concern for discrepancies with what HHS produced in litigation and what it would provide to GAO, and whether HHS did provide false, incomplete, or inaccurate information in litigation.6 I have given the Department ample opportunity to respond to my requests and refute the assertion that it has provided misinformation to one or more courts and yet have received no response to date,” wrote Ranking Member Scott. “Accordingly, given the serious nature of the allegation, I request the Office of Inspector General to initiate an investigation immediately of whether HHS has provided false, incomplete, or inaccurate information, materials, items, or other documentation in litigation since January 20, 2025.” To read the full letter to HHS Inspector General Thomas March Bell, click here. ###
No wonder they don’t want people to vote https://t.co/ZL9eHBgEWn
Thank you to the Richmond Crusade for Voters for 70 years of making democracy work and strengthening the voice of Black Virginians Your work is more important now than ever, because the only way we’re going to protect our right to vote is to exercise our right to vote https://t.co/i4XIp3DVuC
As originally released by the Committee on Education and Workforce, Democrats WASHINGTON – House Committee on Education and Workforce Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) and Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee Ranking Member Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) demanded the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) Assistant Secretary Daniel Aronowitz share a detailed accounting of the agency’s staffing, the damage done by the Trump-Musk federal workforce cuts, and its actions to effectively enforce the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA). ERISA governs 2.8 million health plans, 837,000 retirement plans, and 521,000 other employee benefit plans that cumulatively cover 155 million Americans. However, under the Trump Administration, EBSA has experienced chronic underfunding, reduced staff, and weakened enforcement capacity, allowing bad actors to evade accountability for harming workers’ hard-earned benefits. “The chaotic nature of the Trump Administration’s campaign to slash the federal workforce has also obscured the exact scope and severity of the damage imposed on the Agency’s workforce. Over the last 20 months, we have had to rely on media reports and top-line figures in annual budget requests to ascertain EBSA’s capacity, which are often vague or outdated. Moreover, your responses to the Committee’s questions for the record after your appearance failed to provide any substantive information on staffing. In order for the Committee to evaluate EBSA’s ability to effectively carry out its mission, as well as to advocate for more resources, it is imperative we have a robust and up-to-date picture of the Agency’s workforce changes and composition,”wrote Ranking Members Scott and DeSaulnier. The Ranking Members requested the agency turn over documents and information related to this request no later than October 22, 2026. Background: On November 18, 2025, the Ranking Members urged the Trump Administration to adequately staff EBSA to ensure it can fulfill its enormous mission and called on Secretary Aronowitz to tackle wrongful claim denials by group health plans and insurance companies and secure coverage for working people under ERISA. As Trump and congressional Republicans cut Medicaid, I'm fighting to strengthen the care our seniors and people with disabilities depend on. Alongside @Rep_Grijalva & @RepSusieLee, I'm leading the effort to advance the Direct CARE Opportunity Act, expanding training and career opportunities to address the direct care worker shortage. Every American deserves to live with dignity. That means investing in the workers who make it possible.
Here's the difference a Democratic majority makes ✅ We saved pensions ✅ We cut child poverty ✅ We lowered health insurance premiums ✅ We made historic investments in education & infrastructure It's up to us to make sure Democrats get elected. Let's do what we know how to do https://t.co/SsGTZuY9gD
Had a great time at Party in the Park with Sheriff Chadwick and neighbors from across the community. The Chesapeake Sheriff's Hope Foundation lifts up the people who need it most, and I'm proud to stand with them and support the important work they do. https://t.co/3IfqiAOVYY
Republicans say they want to defeat socialism. Their plan? Give every adult a $5,000 check. 🤔 Making a promise is easy, paying the bill is where Trump always has trouble. https://t.co/F5WwOxm6b4
The Trump Administration must end its attack on Head Start families and children. https://t.co/jCuakm6FM7 https://t.co/ChEd0xBRVI
Taking back the House starts with work like this. @nndems are registering voters, knocking doors and getting people to the polls. Every race matters. This is how we win a Democratic majority that protects our rights and holds this administration accountable. https://t.co/TBVkQE3lto
I’m proud to stand with Elaine, and with Virginia General Assembly Democrats fighting for working families here at home. Early voting is underway. 31 days to go. Let’s do what we know how to do! https://t.co/MOIxM6FKp7

Our right to vote is at stake. We can’t count on the Supreme Court or the Trump administration to protect it. So we will. Virginia, vote YES on Question 3 to protect voting rights and end lifetime felony disenfranchisement. Thanks @nativelandpod for this conversation. https://t.co/A6ncLJKYlT
As originally released by the Committee on Education and Workforce, Democrats WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03), House Committee on Education and Workforce, released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy gained 29,000 jobs in September, and the unemployment rate increased from 4.1 percent to 4.2 percent. “This Trump economy might be working for the wealthy and the well connected, but it clearly is leaving workers behind. CEO pay is skyrocketing, while for working people, it's a daily struggle just to cover groceries and rent. Workers’ wages are failing tokeep up with inflation, and the increasing cost of daily expenses are eating into workers’ paychecks. According to the Century Foundation, inflation-adjusted debt payments grew faster than income in recent years as working families have struggled to make ends meet. “The jobs numbers show the same strain: Trump has added only 776,000 jobs between January 2025 and September 2026, while the Biden administration added 10.7 million within its first 20 months. Since President Trump returned to office, not one month has reached the average monthly job creation under the Biden administration. In fact, he has not even achieved 70 percent of Biden’s monthly average. “And now, as a result of the ‘Big Ugly Bill’s’ cuts to the SNAP program, families are losing their food assistance. An estimated 4.5 million people have lost their SNAP benefits, including more than 1.5 million children. Across the country, people are feeling the impact. In North Carolina, demand at food pantries and food banks is up 20 percent this year, as SNAP enrollment has plummeted by more than 110,000 people since September 2025. In Kansas, one pantry reports distributing 50 percent more food than a year ago. In Oregon, pantry directors say they have gone from being a supplemental resource to the primary source of food, and many incoming families have never had to ask for help before. This is what happens when tax breaks for the wealthy are paid for by taking food off the tables of working families. “That's why I, alongside my Democratic colleagues, am fighting to put working families first. Children cannot learn on an empty stomach, and parents cannot build a better life when they cannot afford groceries. We will keep pushing to protect school meals, strengthen job training, lower the cost of college, and make sure every worker can earn a living wage and retire with dignity.” To see a chart comparing the cumulative seasonally adjusted job change by month between President Trump's first and second terms, and President Biden's presidency, click here. Last night, I joined AFL-CIO President @LizShuler to honor the late, great Bill Spriggs Bill championed working people and economic justice. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those of us who had the opportunity to learn from and work with him over the years https://t.co/UXjZEoNswu
Working families are struggling to afford gas and groceries.
ICE must stop its efforts to deport Wilber Rafael Garces Perez and allow him to receive medical care. There must be an independent investigation and accountability for any ICE officer who broke the law.
In today's cost-of-living crisis, unions are more critical than ever to help workers earn higher pay and secure better benefits. Last week, @AFSCME President Patrick Moran and I met to discuss how Congress can empower unions so that workers can have a voice on the job. https://t.co/IpVhFMEwmM
When we reformed FAFSA, we made it easier to apply and expanded Pell Grant eligibility. But Trump’s policies are making college harder to afford. I’ve introduced legislation to double Pell Grants and to lower borrowing costs, so all students can have the opportunity to attend college, not just the privileged few.
I was also thrilled to see my friend and trailblazer, the Honorable L. Douglas Wilder honored last evening during the 2026 Phoenix Awards Dinner, an event that celebrates the legacies and contributions of our community’s luminaries #ALC55 https://t.co/TnSshlsang
What an incredible atmosphere at the 55th Annual CBCF Legislative Conference! The event brings together elected officials, policymakers, advocates and students for discussions about how effective public policy can remedy many of the issues that affect our communities #ALC55 https://t.co/nCm4Sfh1WT
Early voting is now underway! The energy that is circulating is encouraging, but now it’s time to turn that energy into action It’s increasingly clear that efforts are being planned to deprive citizens from exercising their right to vote https://t.co/XeG8i1in0L
I encourage everyone to take advantage of early voting to ensure your ballot is banked to help turn the tide in November In Virginia, you can register to vote and cast your ballot the same day If you don’t know your precinct, visit https://t.co/6hTylgue1b for more information
