China is making a huge mistake. These missile-part exports damage the economy of every country in the world. They drive up the cost of petroleum, and China is the number one importer of petroleum. Oil bound for China from the Saudi port of Yanbu will have to circumnavigate Africa because the Houthis blockade the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Any regime that executes its youth and its future like this - without a fair trial and any modicum of human rights - is bound to fall. Regardless of how long it takes the people of #Iran will see the end of this regime that continues to execute its own children. #StopExecutionsInIran

We must immediately do more to address the existential threats that dangerous AI systems already pose. I’m leading my colleagues in urging an immediate and significant increase in funding for AI safety. The $15 million currently proposed for the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI) is ridiculously inadequate to evaluate increasingly powerful AI systems.

As the U.S. Representative who has been working side-by-side with Palisades Fire victims to help with recovery, I'm appalled at Ted Nordblum's callousness and cruelty. He should be ashamed of himself for gloating about what he sees as the political benefit from this tragedy.

Three years ago today, Hamas terrorists carried out the deadliest attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust, murdering more than 1,200 innocent people and taking some 250 hostages. We remember the victims of October 7th, stand with their families, and remain committed to ensuring such an atrocity can never happen again. My full statement ⤵️ https://t.co/iLAsEs8JSO

Statement from California Congressional Democrats on Trump’s Attacks on Los Angeles and San Diego

LOS ANGELES, CA - Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32), the California Democratic Congressional Delegation, and both Senators from California issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s inflammatory remarks at a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska: "Upon taking office, the President swears to uphold the Constitution and to protect us from our enemies. President Trump, while defending his unconstitutional war against Iran, appeared, incredibly, to invite Iran to destroy two American cities. His exact words were “Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego.” As members of the California Democratic Congressional Delegation, we call on President Trump to apologize to the over 16 million Americans who live in the Los Angeles and San Diego metropolitan areas and all Americans who expect more out of our President,” the Members said. Joining the statement are: Senators Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Adam Schiff (D-CA), Reps. Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Pete Aguilar (CA-33), Nanette Barragan (CA-44), Ami Bera (CA-06), Julia Brownley (CA-26), Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Judy Chu (CA-28), Gil Cisneros (CA-31), Lou Correa (CA-46), Jim Costa (CA-21), Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10), Laura Friedman (CA-30), John Garamendi (CA-08), Robert Garcia (CA-42), Jimmy Gomez (CA-34), Adam Gray (CA-13), Jared Huffman (CA-02), Sara Jacobs (CA-51), Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37), Ro Khanna (CA-17), Mike Levin (CA-49), Sam Liccardo (CA-16), Ted Lieu (CA-36), Doris Matsui (CA-07), Dave Min (CA-47), Kevin Mullin (CA-15), Jimmy Panetta (CA-19), Nancy Pelosi (CA-11), Scott Peters(CA-50), Luz Rivas (CA-29), Raul Ruiz (CA-25), Linda Sanchez (CA-38), Brad Sherman (CA-32), Lateefah Simon (CA-12), Mark Takano (CA-39), Mike Thompson (CA-04), Derek Tran (CA-45), Juan Vargas (CA-52), Aisha Wahab (CA-14), Maxine Waters (CA-43), and George Whitesides (CA-27). ###

Congressman Brad Sherman Marks Three Years Since October 7th Attack on Israel

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32), Co-Chair of the House Israel Allies Caucus, Ranking Member Emeritus of the Middle East Subcommittee, and senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement marking three years since Hamas’s October 7th, 2023 terrorist attack on Israel: “Three years ago today, Hamas terrorists launched a barbaric and unprovoked attack against Israel, murdering more than 1,200 innocent men, women and children, including Americans, and taking some 250 people hostage in the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Today, we must continue to remember those who were murdered, honor their memories, stand with the survivors and families whose lives were forever changed, and recommit to ensuring that Hamas and any like-minded terrorist entity can never be allowed to govern again. Last October, after more than two agonizing years of captivity, the remaining twenty living hostages held in Gaza finally returned home. Their release brought enormous relief, but it did not erase the suffering inflicted upon the hostages and their families, nor diminish our obligation to ensure that every terrorist organization that participated in the October 7th attack is held accountable. The acts of brutality committed on that day – including rape and torture – should have inspired global solidarity. Instead, 3 years later, we are witnessing the return of extreme vilification of the Jewish people and the Jewish state, including through the manufactured and libelous accusation of genocide. The United States must reject this disinformation campaign and remain steadfast in supporting Israel’s security. Hamas can never again carry out such an attack and Gaza must be governed not by terrorists, but by legitimate leadership committed to peace. This is critical to ending the tragic cycle of violence and finally allowing innocent Israelis and Palestinians to live in security. The U.S.–Israel partnership has endured because of our shared democratic values and common determination to confront terrorism and pursue lasting security and peace. We must stand up to the antisemitism and coordinated disinformation that threatens this alliance. On this solemn anniversary, we remember the victims of October 7th and reaffirm our commitment to building a future of greater peace and security for Israelis, Palestinians, and the region.” Since the October 7th attack, Congressman Sherman has led and co-sponsored numerous measures to support Israel’s security and hold Hamas and other terrorist organizations accountable, including legislation to sanction the Popular Resistance Committees for their participation in the October 7th massacre, strengthen Israel’s missile-defense capabilities, and counter the flow of Iranian funds to terrorist proxies. ###

Pleased to see that @FEMA is paying California the money it owes to the state for providing caseworkers for fire victims through September 30. It is now time for FEMA to approve and fund keeping this program open at least through May of next year. Losing one’s home in a horrendous fire is extremely difficult on families. Working through the morass of governmental and insurance issues without a caseworker would be horrendous for many families.

Joint statement from Congressman Brad Sherman and Congresswoman Judy Chu on Talks with North Korea

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On September 29th, Congressman Brad Sherman (CA-32), senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Congresswoman Judy Chu (CA-28) issued the following statement: “We welcome President Trump’s recent efforts to restart talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and – despite North Korea’s rebuff – believe that serious dialogue and diplomacy are our most effective tools for protecting US national security interests in the region, addressing nuclear proliferation concerns, and achieving a durable peace on the Korean Peninsula. We sincerely hope that President Trump will direct the State Department to take steps to lay a foundation for successful, meaningful discussions with North Korea. Those steps could include revisiting the ban on U.S. citizen travel to North Korea; pursuing a formal treaty, legally ending the Korean War; and starting negotiations with North Korea to establish liaison offices in each country. These actions would lay the groundwork for a productive and successful summit between President Trump and Kim Jong Un and advancement of US interests.” ###

Honored today to pay tribute to the WWII combat service of Jay J Stein (d. 2004) with the medals he earned -but was never awarded- for his service in the Po Valley campaign. Jay is survived and his service remembered by his son Richard (pictured here) who worked with my Constituent Service staff to ensure that the medals be awarded posthumously and provided to his family in his memory.
