Our nation's service academies are enviable institutions both for their academic rigor and their leadership development capabilities. Upon learning of DoD's decision to end tenured civilian positions at service academies, I led fellow House Members in demanding answers about the implications for academic freedom, faculty recruitment and retention, accreditation, and the academic quality of the service academies.
President Trump promised to end wars in the Middle East. Then he started another one. President Trump promised to bring costs down. Then he stood by as energy prices escalated. President Trump promised to help American families. Then he let grocery prices surge more than 30 percent. President Trump promised to drive mortgage rates down to 2 percent. Then his policies pushed rates to 7.5 percent. President Trump promised to lower inflation. Then inflation last month rose to 3.7 percent. Now, President Trump calls this crisis a hoax. The Trump economy is one of broken promises and empty wallets. https://t.co/kDW7XNLdnH
Happy birthday to the U.S. Navy! Both my father and grandfather served in the Navy. It was their service that inspired me to enlist in the Air Force, and informs my work on the House Armed Services Committee every single day. I am proud to be the Ranking Member of the Military Personnel Subcommittee where I work on behalf of all servicemembers and their families.
There is no energy ceasefire. Instead, we are pumping billions of dollars into the economy of an adversary. The President has chosen an enemy over our ally, and over us. https://t.co/qtndi6LUP9
There is no excuse for a mistake of this magnitude. Requiring Congress to step in to rectify such an egregious error is an embarrassment for the Department. The failure of Secretary Hegseth to immediately take ownership of the problem also does a grave disservice to the men and women putting their lives on the line in service to our country. I am glad to see the error has been corrected and will continue to fight for transparency and accountability. https://t.co/XoBR7O8biR

"Nidal Hasan is a murderer and terrorist who will face justice as determined by the unanimous verdict of a jury, in accordance with the principles of due process that our democracy is built on. What did the jury not have a say in? Livestreaming the execution for the public to see. The U.S. hasn’t held a public execution in over a century, and with good reason. We are not Iran or North Korea. We know that justice is not entertainment, nor is it the glorification of violence. I urge Secretary Hegseth to reconsider this decision and to treat justice for this heinous act with the seriousness it requires." --end-- Share This Page Rep. One in six PA households use home heating oil. That means one out of every six Pennsylvanians is looking at a 30% price increase this winter to keep their families warm. Other types of home heating sources are expected to be about 10% more expensive too. These basic necessities are more and more out of reach because of President Trump's war of choice in Iran.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), shared the following statement on Secretary Hegseth's announcement that the execution of the Fort Hood shooter will be livestreamed: "Nidal Hasan is a murderer and terrorist who will face justice as determined by the unanimous verdict of a jury, in accordance with the principles of due process that our democracy is built on. What did the jury not have a say in? Livestreaming the execution for the public to see. The U.S. hasn’t held a public execution in over a century, and with good reason. It is fall festival season! Make sure you check out these fantastic guides from Chester County's Brandywine Valley. Farmers' markets, orchards, food and beer festivals: there's something for everybody in PA-06 this fall! https://t.co/Hmj69Tibn2 https://t.co/foAy2kBuhQ https://t.co/CU8pbqmpIY
Reliable access to the internet is fundamental for many functions of daily life. From small business transactions, to schoolwork, banking, and beyond. Recently, Governor Shapiro announced more than $448 million in Broadband Equity, Access, and Development (BEAD) grants that will support the buildout of broadband infrastructure in underserved locations across the Commonwealth. I am glad to see Chester County on this list and am looking forward to wider broadband access both in PA-06 and across the Commonwealth!
Speaker Johnson says that the American people have to look at "record over rhetoric." I am seeing: Record high diesel prices. Regular gas prices continuing to rise. Unaffordable housing. Skyrocketing grocery costs. Unattainable child care. Astronomical ulitilty costs. Millions kicked off of SNAP. Millions priced out of health insurance. That’s not rhetoric. It’s reality under this administration.
Our community is shaped in part by the generations of Hispanic Americans who have called Chester and Berks Counties home. As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, it is my honor to celebrate the incredible contributions Hispanic Americans have made to our district and to the nation.
Marking three years since the October 7th attacks, we remember the lives senselessly cut short by terrorism. and continue to work towards a safe, prosperous future for the region where Israelis and Palestinians alike can live without fear. My thoughts are with those who mourn the loss of loved ones as well as with those working towards a lasting peace.
When I toured the USS Lincoln, I arrived with a lot of questions. 321 days at sea. 200 of those days without a single stop at a port of call. Undoubtably, there is truth to some of the stories and headlines; a ship with 5,000 souls aboard has that many stories and that many truths. The real question is whether this war, which put the USS Lincoln at sea for so long, is a justified or necessary one. Whether the American people have authorized the deployment of our soldiers and sailors, airmen and marines in this way. Whether Congress, as the people’s proxy, has exercised our oversight and budgetary authority over this war and over the Department of Defense. My answer to these questions is no.
Prove it.
Only the VP and the cabinet can call for the 25th amendment. As Americans we can and should call out President Trump’s unhinged and dangerous actions. Call him out and #vote on November 3rd.
President Trump's statement about Los Angeles and San Diego last night is a betrayal of every person living in this country. It does not matter if he was joking, or confused or off-script. His recklessness is dangerous to us all, and I expect every Republican lawmaker to rebuke him for suggesting such a horrific thing.
After living through the 2008 financial crisis, we know all too well the national importance of holding perpetrators of mortgage and bank fraud to account. Now, the Trump administration is moving to eliminate investigations at the agency that does exactly that. This is a ridiculous policy to push onto the American people, many of whom lost everything nearly 20 years ago. https://t.co/UUKM10ejP3
Promises are not results. It's crystal clear by now that the only people the Trump administration's economic policies are benefiting is the wealthiest Americans. With only 776,000 jobs created between January 2025 and September 2026, compared to the Biden administration's 10.7 million, Donald Trump's second term has been terrible for the American middle class.
It has always been true that both early voting and voting by mail are safe and secure. I'm glad that the President is now encouraging citizens to excercise their most fundamental right as Americans. Please make sure you're registered and make a plan to vote! https://t.co/6n7WKCcb7m
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representatives Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) and Adam Smith (WA-09) demanded answers on the Department of Defense’s decision to end appointments to tenured positions at military service academies. Specifically, the lawmakers questioned Secretary Pete Hegseth about the Department’s legal authority for this action, its intended application, and effects on existing faculty. “Congress has long recognized that the service academies have a dual mission: preparing cadets and midshipmen for military service while providing a rigorous academic education,” wrote the lawmakers. “Civilian faculty play an important role in making that possible.” The lawmakers continued, “Given this statutory and institutional history, we are concerned about the legal basis for the Department’s new policy and whether the directive is intended to prohibit future grants of tenure or to alter the status and employment protections of faculty who are currently tenured.” Rep. Houlahan is Ranking Member of the House Military Personnel Subcommittee and Rep. Smith is Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee. The Members were joined by Representatives Bobby Scott (VA-03), Ranking Member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, Pat Ryan (NY-18), representing the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Sarah Elfreth (MD-03), representing the U.S. Naval Academy, Joe Courtney (CT-02), representing the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and Chris Deluzio (PA-17). Secretary Hegseth is asked to provide a response by October 16, 2026. The full letter can be found here. --end-- Share This Page Rep.
