As Trump’s popularity craters amid rising prices and his deeply unpopular war, everything he does is an attempt to distract his remaining followers. But raiding the home of a member of the opposing party right before the election - and tipping off FoxNews in advance so they are on hand to publicize it - is insanely corrupt even for Donald Trump. Trump and Vance have long pressured his DHS and DOJ appointees to do go after Congresswoman Omar, as recently as yesterday. This is one of the most authoritarian abuses of power Trump has ever perpetrated. Any member of either party who holds allegiance to country over must denounce it and fight back to hold the people who did this accountable. I stand with @Ilhan.
Tom Homan, the man leading Trump’s authoritarian “investigation” of Rep. Ilhan Omar right before the midterm, was caught by the FBI accepting a bribe of $50,000 in cash in a paper bag. Homan was recorded admitting to the scheme. But Trump’s Justice Department simply dropped the case and covered it up. The most corrupt presidential administration in history.

Happy National Coming Out Day! As Republicans continue to target the LGBTQ+ community, we have a responsibility to speak up, show our support, and stand up for their rights. Whether you came out today, have been out for years, or aren't out yet: know that you belong.
Mental health affects all of us and today, on World Mental Health Day, we recognize the importance of making sure no one has to navigate those challenges alone. If you or a loved one are in crisis or need help, call or text 9-8-8 for support.
Trump’s chainsaw attack on the trees of East Potomac Park today is emblematic of his presidency: wanton destruction of beautiful things, done with lightning speed to bypass local and legal opposition, as the administration lies about what they are doing. This isn’t “maintenance,” it’s another attempt to appease the whims and ego of the narcissist in chief, and it’s heartbreaking for many local residents who love this outdoor space. I will keep pressing my colleagues in Congress to stand up to Trump’s assault on our region.
As AI becomes more capable and widespread, we need a clear regulatory framework for its safe and secure development and deployment. A White House task force can help coordinate federal AI policy, but only Congress can enact durable federal guardrails. https://t.co/FjghEgqRfy
Infuriating—but this is what we warned anyone who would listen: Trump isn't the slightest bit trustworthy when it comes to Russia. Giving him expanded tariff powers in hopes he would use them to help Ukraine was a mistake. Now he's *lifting* sanctions on Russian fossil fuels.
Former U.S. Ambassador here— our ambassadors are public servants just like other federal employees of the executive branch, and are bound by federal laws and regulations. As you would expect, accepting large sums of cash in exchange for access or favors using her official position would obviously run afoul of these. Ambassador Guilfoyle must be fired and if she broke the law, which seems highly likely, prosecuted.
New: after @RepDianaDeGette @DorisMatsui and I requested an investigation, the nonpartisan General Accounting Office found the Trump Administration *illegally* impounded tens of millions of taxpayer dollars that Congress directed to be spent on health care research. Details and our statement here: https://t.co/hprcy7aJu4
@NateWeixel The GAO’s decision confirms what we have known for over a year: Donald Trump is stealing taxpayers’ dollars that Congress set aside to improve Americans’ health. The administration’s unilateral dismantling of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s grantmaking operations is an illegal impoundment of Congressionally appropriated funds. Under Article I of the Constitution, the power of the purse rests strictly with Congress, not the executive branch. Trump’s administration cannot simply refuse to spend the resources we authorized for lifesaving health care research. Republicans must join Democrats in demanding that the Constitution is upheld. https://t.co/rvIvpoGjap
@NateWeixel The report from the General Accounting Office (GAO) is here: "We conclude that HHS withheld funds when it declined to obligate or expend more than $78 million of its FY 2025 appropriation before the close of the fiscal year. We further conclude that this withholding constituted an impoundment under the [Impoundment Control Act of 1974] rather than a programmatic delay. Because HHS did not submit a special message proposing to rescind AHRQ funds, HHS’s actions violated the ICA." https://t.co/ucxr19mMm4
Read more about this in The Hill via @NateWeixel: "The Trump administration violated federal law by withholding tens of millions of dollars in research grant funding Congress had appropriated for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)... "The AHRQ is a relatively small federal agency dedicated to making healthcare safer, more affordable and more effective and is estimated to have funded research that’s saved thousands of lives and billions of dollars over the past 27 years. "But the agency’s failure to spend appropriated dollars continues. "Congress allocated about $345 million for the AHRQ this year, but the agency in July told researchers it was halting nearly every grant that previously had been awarded. "Last month, the White House told Congress it intended to claw back $28 million of AHRQ funding as part of a broader move to cancel nearly $1 billion in federal funding across various agencies." https://t.co/0iKifjzB6m
Donald Trump’s self-serving mission of remaking D.C. in his image is driving away visitors and hurting the small businesses and workers who depend on local tourism. It's devastating. https://t.co/1QMnpaKkrY
Representatives Don Beyer (VA-08), Diana DeGette (CO-01), and Doris Matsui (CA-07) released the following statement after the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a legal determination confirming the administration illegally impounded $78 million in Fiscal Year 2025 funding for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). The decision comes more than a year after Reps. Beyer, DeGette, and Matsui sent the initial request for a nonpartisan legal opinion on the matter. “The GAO’s decision today confirms what we have known for over a year: Donald Trump is stealing taxpayers’ dollars that Congress set aside to improve Americans’ health. The administration’s unilateral dismantling of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s grantmaking operations is an illegal impoundment of Congressionally appropriated funds. “Under Article I of the Constitution, the power of the purse rests strictly with Congress, not the executive branch. Trump’s administration cannot simply refuse to spend the resources we authorized for lifesaving health care research. Republicans must join Democrats in demanding that the Constitution is upheld.” Background: The Trump administration’s massive cuts at the Department of Health and Human Services beginning April 1, 2025, disrupted grant funding for health care research across the country, including in Colorado. AHRQ suffered particularly devastating impacts to its grants supporting more efficient, effective, and safe health care. Grantmaking at AHRQ halted: from April 1 to September 5, 2025, AHRQ did not issue a single grant. The agency would typically issue up to 73 grants during a comparable time period. In September 2025, Representatives Beyer, DeGette, and Matsui sent a request to GAO for their legal opinion on whether disruptions of AHRQ’s grantmaking process represented illegal withholding of funds in violation of the Impoundment Control Act, which regulates the president’s ability to delay or withhold Congressionally appropriated spending. The GAO is often called the “Congressional watchdog” for its role in investigating federal government spending and performance.
In Trump’s economy, the rich are getting richer because Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress prioritized tax breaks the wealthiest among us while working Americans are struggling to make ends meet.
It is sad but unsurprising that this Administration won't commit to imposing new sanctions on Russia, despite the enactment of the Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia Act. As I and others warned, this legislation gives the President very broad waiver authority to ignore most of the bill's provisions, including the supposedly 'mandatory' sanctions on Russian entities and individuals. Given Trump's long record of deference and affection for President Putin and numerous reports that he is trying to figure out ways to make a deal to lift existing sanctions on Russia, I'm not holding my breath.
When Congress appropriated this money, it was intended to fund a wide range of research and projects. The Trump Administration cannot simply ignore Congress and withhold or redirect funds it doesn’t want to spend. It's illegal. https://t.co/Ql3KbPiZPA
The American people want smart regulation on AI, and they're rightly concerned about safety and transparency. Giving this job to the Director of National Intelligence indicates - again - that Trump takes neither the risks of AI nor the DNI's national security role seriously.
Another scam from Trump. This promise is just as sincere as his promises to lower prices, release the Epstein files, and not start any new foreign wars.
Scientists could not be more clear: if we do not make meaningful strides to tackle the climate crisis, the damage done to our oceans will be permanent. This would mean the loss of critical wildlife and more dangerous flooding which threatens the lives of millions of people. https://t.co/hoLNdoQxPA
Trump's vanity arch would create a huge mess for everyone trying to get around the area by air or on the ground. It’s a recipe for disaster and I will fight it every step of the way. https://t.co/LX29ExOJLI
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we remember the loved ones we’ve lost, stand with those fighting breast cancer, and celebrate those who’ve overcome it. I’m grateful to researchers and health care professionals working to advance treatments, improve early detection, and move us closer to a cure.
I’m glad the court stopped this Administration from denying children the early education they need to succeed. No child should lose access to Head Start simply because of their parents’ immigration status. https://t.co/jmd1FxEdAt
It's nice to think that big AI companies will regulate themselves and put the security of the American people first, but it's just not the reality. We need laws that mandate higher standards of testing and independent review to make sure AI systems are safe and secure. https://t.co/kqNc2wpJWB
