During a Tyrrell County Farm Bureau meeting, we discussed the Farm Bill, the Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act of 2026, trade policy, and national defense. We also talked about the need to support young farmers. The highlight of my evening was meeting Maggie Davis and exchanging autographs. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!

Glad to join @RepPatHarrigan on the REACH Act, which offers up to $10,000 in refundable tax credits to those who qualify as rural healthcare professionals. The aim is to help recruit and retain more healthcare professionals in rural communities. We must work to strengthen rural health and make the necessary services more accessible to families throughout eastern North Carolina. https://t.co/4aiWKHwhh1

Over the past 24 years, you've been my partner, my top cheerleader, and one of God's biggest blessings in my life. On the day of our wedding anniversary, I’m thinking about how the best things in life can't be measured by how long they've lasted, but by the love we've shared, the memories we've made together, and the family we're so fortunate to have. Happy Anniversary, Yuvonka Shawnte' Batts Davis!

Ferries in eastern North Carolina's coastal communities areas are essential. They connect kids to school, residents to doctor visits, and workers to their jobs. As a new member of the bipartisan Congressional Ferry Caucus, my focus is to advocate for more federal investment in the ferry system so that coastal communities can remain connected.

Congressman Don Davis Joins Congressional Ferry Caucus to Advocate for Eastern North Carolina’s Coastal Communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) announced he has joined the Congressional Ferry Caucus. As a member of the caucus, he will join 17 of his colleagues to focus on federal investment in our nation's ferry system. "Ferries in eastern North Carolina's coastal communities are essential. They connect kids to school, residents to doctor visits, and workers to their jobs," said Congressman Don Davis. "As a new member of the bipartisan Congressional Ferry Caucus, my focus is to advocate for more federal investment in the ferry system so that coastal communities can remain connected." The State of Washington operates the largest ferry system in the nation, and North Carolina's ferry system follows as the second-largest. There are a total of seven scheduled ferry routes that link eastern North Carolina communities. Ferries provide access to basic needs and necessities, support the local economy through tourism and trade, and are still a significant part of their daily lives. Ferry transportation is vital to our residents and businesses along the coast. Representatives Emily Randall (WA-06), Nick Begich (AK-AL), John Garamendi (CA-08), and Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) are the founding members of the caucus, which was created in June 2025 to raise awareness in Washington, D.C., of our nation's ferry system among Congressional members and their staff.

October is National Seafood Month, and here in eastern North Carolina, our commercial fishermen and seafood industry are an important part of our economy and way of life. ▪️ H.R. 9154, the SHRIMP Act of 2026, would help identify the country of origin of imported shrimp and prevent foreign producers from evading import rules. ▪️ H.R. 2071, the Save Our Shrimpers Act, would prohibit certain international financing from supporting foreign shrimp operations that compete with American watermen. ▪️ H.R. 2715, the Destruction of Hazardous Imports Act, would give the FDA authority to destroy hazardous imported products that pose significant public health risks.

Friday in the First Sheree Anderson, who lives in Roanoke Rapids, established Global Resources & Opportunities Work, also known as G.R.O.W., to help increase access to economic opportunities for those living throughout eastern North Carolina. As the founder and CEO of G.R.O.W., she has taken steps to bridge the gap in digital access among residents living in some of our most remote areas. By providing residents with access to education, technology, and other available resources, Sheree works hard every day to create opportunities for individuals to be competitive in today's workforce. Sheree also offers remote job search support and workforce development initiatives that enable residents to pursue employment in sectors like healthcare, information technology, and business administration. We are honored to recognize Sheree. #FridaySpotlight

Reps. Davis, Bergman, Van Drew, Golden Introduce SMILE for Veterans Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Reps. Don Davis (NC-01), Jack Bergman (MI-01), Jeff Van Drew (NJ-02) and Jared Golden (ME-02) have introduced the SMILE for Veterans Act, bipartisan legislation which will create a Department of Veterans Affairs Pilot Program to pay for local dentists providing care to America's rural veterans. "Too many rural veterans experience difficulty obtaining necessary dental care, and quality dental care is essential for maintaining overall health," said Rep. Don Davis. "The SMILE for Veterans Act provides community-based providers with a means to provide that care closer to home. We owe it to our veterans to maintain our promise to provide them with the best care possible.” At this time, only approximately 15 percent of the nearly 9 million veterans receiving their healthcare through the VA are eligible for VA-funded dental care. In most cases, eligibility for dental care is based on whether a veteran has a service-connected dental issue, a 100 percent disability rating, or was a former prisoner of war. The SMILE for Veterans Act addresses the lack of accessibility to quality dental care in rural areas by allowing local dentists already in place to be reimbursed for treating rural veterans. The legislation would allow for increased access to dental care in underserved areas using the current provider base and infrastructure, without creating additional costs or requiring the VA to develop new dental systems. “For too many veterans in rural communities, basic dental care is either too far away or simply out of reach,”said Rep. Jack Bergman.“The SMILE for Veterans Act offers a practical solution by connecting veterans with trusted dental providers already serving their communities. Rather than building an expensive new federal system from the ground up, this legislation uses existing local providers to deliver care efficiently and closer to home.” “I spent 30 years as a dentist, and I can tell you that putting off dental care usually only makes things worse,”said Rep. Jeff Van Drew.“For veterans living in rural communities, sometimes the hardest part is simply finding a dentist close enough to get the care they need. That should not be the case. The SMILE for Veterans Act is a practical way to connect veterans with that care closer to home. To me, that is common sense.” “VA health care is an essential benefit for our nation’s veterans, but for too long a lack of dental coverage has been a massive gap in care. The mouth is part of the body, and our veterans shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to get basic dental care. I’m proud to work with Reps. Bergman, Davis and Van Drew on the SMILE Act, which takes a smart first step toward more comprehensive coverage by focusing on rural areas where barriers to care are the highest and community providers that can help close the gap,”said Rep. Jared Golden. The SMILE for Veterans Act is supported by AMVETS, the National Rural Health Association, and the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health. ###

Congressman Davis Announces $1 Million in Federal Funding to Strengthen Rural Health Care

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) announced that the Department of Health and Human Services awarded Rural Health Group, Inc. $250,000 and Metropolitan Community Health $750,000 to expand the SmallHealth Care Provider Quality Improvement Program and the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program. “Eastern North Carolina families should be able to get quality healthcare in their own communities, as these funds will help do exactly that. They will go towards providing support to local healthcare providers, increasing access to necessary services, and creating an opportunity for families and individuals who are struggling with substance use disorder to receive the essential help they need for treatment and recovery,” said Congressman Don Davis. “I will continue working hard to deliver so our rural communities have the resources they require to remain healthy, strong, and productive.” Rural Health Group, Inc. will receive $250,000 for the Small Health Care Provider Quality Improvement Program. The program supports our rural health care providers in strengthening primary care coordination and quality, improving chronic disease management, and using proven, data-driven practices to improve patient outcomes. Metropolitan Community Health will receive $750,000 for the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program. The funding will support efforts to improve access to treatment and recovery services for individuals with substance use disorder or opioid use disorder in rural communities. Congressman Davis voted for H.R. 7148, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026, which continued federal investments in rural health programs administered through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Federal Office of Rural Health Policy. ###
