Palmer's CHARM Act Passes House

For Immediate Release Media Contact: Hope Martin (202) 225-4921 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 9617, the Coordinating and Harnessing America’s Recovery of Minerals (CHARM) Act. This bipartisan legislation was introduced by Representatives Gary Palmer (R-AL-06) and Paul Tonko (D-NY-20), the Democratic Ranking Member on the Environment Subcommittee. Following the passage of the CHARM Act, Rep. Palmer released the following statement: “America should not have to rely on China or other adversarial nations for the critical minerals that power our economy and strengthen our national security,” said Rep. Palmer. “The House passage of the CHARM Act is an important step toward making better use of the resources we already have here at home and strengthening our domestic supply chains. I’m grateful to Congressman Tonko for working with me on this bipartisan effort, and I look forward to seeing the Senate take up this legislation.” “Building out our domestic supply chain and ensuring we have the materials our nation needs to power our energy system leads to lasting benefits for our workers, national security, and economy," Congressman Tonko said. "Our CHARM Act does just that by establishing a coordinated federal strategy for recovering critical minerals from discarded materials. I’m grateful to Congressman Palmer for his partnership leading this legislation and am proud to see its passage through the House.” The CHARM Act aims to reduce America’s reliance on foreign countries for critical minerals by identifying new opportunities to recover these resources from sources already available in the United States, including electronic waste, legacy mine sites, and coal ash. The legislation directs the Environmental Protection Agency to develop a coordinated federal strategy for recovering critical minerals from these and other overlooked domestic sources. Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives taken that day and honor the first responders who ran toward danger, the ordinary Americans who acted with extraordinary courage, and the men and women who answered the call to defend our nation in the years that followed. A generation of Americans has now grown up without a memory of that terrible day. Tragically, many young Americans have not been taught the history of radical Islamist ideology or the devastating consequences that can follow when such extremism is allowed to take root. We are now seeing some in younger generations embrace or excuse the very ideologies that have fueled terrorism and violence around the world. We have a responsibility to teach the next generation the truth about the September 11 attacks and why they happened. Remembering is not only about honoring those we lost; it is also about ensuring that the lessons of that day are never forgotten. Twenty-five years later, join me in remembering the lives lost, honoring the heroes, and remaining committed to defending the freedoms that make America worth protecting. We will never forget.

One year ago today, Charlie Kirk was tragically taken from us. Charlie was a bold voice for faith, freedom, and the conservative principles that make our nation strong. His commitment to reaching the next generation and standing firm for what he believed left a lasting impact on our country. We continue to pray for Erika, their children, and all those who knew and loved Charlie. His legacy will not be forgotten.

Having proposed the inclusion of the Rural Health Transformation Fund into the Working Family Tax Cuts Act, I am proud to see this investment now making a real difference for communities across Alabama. This funding will help Alabama strengthen its rural healthcare workforce, expand access to critical services, and give providers the tools they need to better serve their patients. I am grateful to @POTUS and his Administration for working with Congress to turn this idea into action and invest in the long-term health of rural America. https://t.co/jRSwVFv6R3
