American naval power is critical to protecting our nation and maintaining peace around the world. The Working Families Tax Cuts Act invests $32.6 billion in shipbuilding, including a second Virginia-class submarine, two additional guided missile destroyers, amphibious ships, oilers, and unmanned surface and underwater vessels. We need a Navy capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.

Hard-working Wisconsin families shouldn't be taxed to the breaking point. It is time to let folks keep more of their hard-earned money, cut state income taxes, and make Wisconsin affordable again. #WI #WI06

The brave men and women of Customs and Border Protection put themselves on the line every day to protect our country. The Working Families Tax Cut provides nearly $12 billion for CBP, including funding to hire and train additional agents, retention bonuses, new vehicles, and improved facilities and checkpoints. We need to give our border agents the resources and support they deserve.

Grothman: American Workers Should Come First in Their Own Country

Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-WI) introduced the Protecting American Workers Through H-1B Modernization Act, which would close an outdated loophole that allows H-1B dependent employers to bypass certain American worker protections. Senator Jon Husted (R-OH) has introduced companion legislation in the Senate. “American workers should come first in their own country,” said Grothman. “Employers should not be able to use a salary threshold established nearly three decades ago to bypass protections for qualified Americans. There is no excuse for leaving this threshold unchanged when it should have been raised years ago. Washington’s failure to act shows how little the Establishment cares about unemployed Americans when employers want access to cheap foreign labor. This bill would update that threshold and help ensure American workers have a fair opportunity to compete for these jobs.” “For decades, companies have been able to sidestep hiring American workers because of a salary threshold that hasn’t budged since 1998. That’s not modernization, that’s a loophole. This bill simply asks that when a company is heavily reliant on these visas and wants to bring in more H-1B workers, they shouldn’t be relying on an outdated law to get around offering these jobs to qualified American workers first,” said Husted. Background Information Under current law, H-1B dependent employers, companies whose H-1B share of their workforce exceeds a particular threshold, must attest that they have first tried to hire American workers before sponsoring additional H-1B visas. However, employers are exempted if they pay the H-1B worker at least $60,000 per year, or if the worker holds a master’s degree or higher. The $60,000 threshold was set in 1998 and was intended to be twice the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) National Average Wage Index at the time. It has never been adjusted for inflation. Today, the SSA National Average Wage Index is nearly $70,000, meaning the original threshold, adjusted for inflation, would be nearly $140,000. The Protecting American Workers Through H-1B Modernization Act would replace the fixed $60,000 threshold with a dynamic standard equal to two times the national average wage index, as calculated by the SSA. This would ensure the threshold keeps pace with wage growth going forward, rather than remaining frozen in place. -30-

Today, we celebrate Columbus Day and remember Christopher Columbus’s historic voyage across the Atlantic in 1492. His journey brought the Old and New Worlds into greater contact and set in motion changes that would shape world history for centuries to come. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Columbus Day with family and friends!

Supporting our troops means supporting their families, too. The Working Families Tax Cuts Act provides $7.6 billion to improve quality of life for servicemembers and military families, including increased housing allowances, expanded childcare assistance, healthcare funding, tuition assistance, and modernized barracks. Those who serve our country should have the support they need at home, too.

Press Release
Grothman Announces $17.9 Million in FEMA Aid for Storm and Tornado Recovery

Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-WI) welcomed President Donald Trump’s announcement of $17.9 million in federal disaster relief for Wisconsin communities affected by the July 27, 2026, storms in Forest, Outagamie, Vilas, and Winnebago counties. “Thank you to President Trump for supporting Wisconsin’s recovery,” said Grothman. “I was proud to lead our bipartisan congressional delegation in urging federal support following the devastating July storms and tornado. Local officials, first responders, and community members have worked hard to help their communities recover, and federal assistance can help build on those efforts. I especially want to thank the volunteers who have given their time to help neighbors clean up and begin rebuilding. Their generosity reflects the best of Wisconsin.” Residents with questions about federal disaster assistance or who need help working with FEMA or another federal agency are encouraged to contact Congressman Grothman’s Fond du Lac office at (920) 907-0624. Background Information The July 27, 2026, storms caused extensive damage across Forest, Outagamie, Vilas, and Winnebago counties. An EF3 tornado tore through the Fox Valley, causing widespread destruction in communities including Appleton and Menasha. It remained on the ground for more than 20 minutes, traveled approximately 12 miles, reached nearly one mile in width, and produced estimated winds of 136 to 165 miles per hour. More than 30,000 homes and businesses lost power. Damage assessments conducted by FEMA and Wisconsin Emergency Management identified 2,346 residential structures affected, including 84 destroyed and 412 with major damage, with estimated losses exceeding $8.2 million. Public-sector damage exceeded $13.8 million, surpassing Wisconsin’s per-capita threshold by more than $2.4 million. Congressman Grothman led two letters signed by every member of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation seeking federal support: August 12: The delegation urged FEMA to work with Wisconsin Emergency Management on a Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment, an essential step toward determining eligibility for federal disaster assistance. August 27: Following completion of those assessments, the delegation urged President Trump to approve a Major Disaster Declaration and make Individual Assistance, Public Assistance, and Hazard Mitigation assistance available. –30–

We cannot produce American energy if we cannot get a permit to drill. More than 6,100 applications for drilling on federal lands have been approved, a 64% increase from the same period in 2024-25. More drilling means more American energy, stronger energy security, and more opportunities for American workers.
