Eliya Cohen was held hostage in Hamas' terror tunnels for 505 days. He was chained, starved, and beaten. Every morning, he and his fellow captives prayed in Hebrew so that their captors would know that their Jewish spirit was unbroken. His girlfriend, Ziv Abud, was with him at the Nova Music Festival. She escaped a bomb shelter in which their family and friends were murdered by terrorists using grenades & guns. Eliya & Ziv were honored guests at Temple Shalom in Newton on October 7th to share their story (he learned English from a book that Hersh Goldberg-Polin gave him to pass the time in the tunnels) in commemoration of the third anniversary of the Hamas attacks. I joined hundreds of others to bear witness, memorialize the thousands slain, and take inspiration from the indomitable spirit of Eliya and Ziv. Sustaining Americans' memory of October 7th is an homage for the victims, a tribute to the heroes, and a powerful way to strengthen the resolve of the Jewish community.

A new treatment that slows Alzheimer's progression could generate more than $100,000 in lifetime social value per person. Even more if started earlier. My bipartisan Alzheimer's Early Detection Act would give every American that early start by covering biomarker testing, which is good medicine and smart money. Pre-symptomatic individuals shouldn't need to wait to show symptoms to start the treatment that can delay the decline. https://t.co/njVuhycjqa

"Auchincloss emphasized regulating social media platforms as an area for new legislation. He proposed raising the minimum age on such platforms to 16 and taxing large tech companies’ digital advertising revenue to fund trade schools. 'I think social media regulations are the 21st-century equivalent of the child labor laws of 19th-century America, where we have to ask ourselves as a society to what degree and with what amount of accountability are we willing to allow market forces to act directly upon childhood,' Auchincloss said. He then turned to advancements in artificial intelligence, expressing concern with the growing prevalence of AI companions marketed toward children. 'I don’t want my kids to have AI friends. I want my kids to have real friends,' Auchincloss said."

As a father to three children under seven, protecting our streets and schools from violent crime is top of mind. That means saying no to dangerous ideas, regardless of politics. In 2026, the No on Question 9 campaign wants to get rid of sensible gun safety laws. On Nov. 3, join me in voting Yes on Question 9, Yes for civil rights, and Yes for public safety.

Stripping $300,000 from the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) is performative cruelty in line with this administration’s lengthy track record of harassing and intimidating immigrant communities. It is also a direct violation of the law. The Constitution gives Congress, not Russell Vought, sole authority over federal spending. Lawmakers must reassert our Article I power of the purse, stop these illegal impoundments, and roll back this imperial presidency. https://t.co/jGWBbRe118

Serving on the Select Committee on China 2 years ago, I argued that the next president had to win 2 immediate concessions from China: stop importing oil from Iran & stop exporting fentanyl to America. Trump has failed at both, so that fentanyl is as cheap as ever & diesel is $6.50 a gallon.

Vought is increasingly isolated on medical science funding - on Appropriations, Uniform Grants Regulation, and the EO, he has been beaten back. Merit-based science backers need to go on offense, now: the forward funding & grant freezes at NIH need to stop, too.

The ICE arrest wave in the South Coast is sowing fear in the immigrant communities I represent. This broken agency continues to undermine public safety, which requires trust, due process, and professional law enforcement. ICE must provide a rationale & update for each individual arrested in this operation, and my office is ready to assist constituents. Congress should pass the Stop Excessive Force in Immigration Act, which I have co-sponsored. https://t.co/I2PHlbibjZ

AI regulation starts with AI liability. My bipartisan Deepfake Liability Act holds AI accountable to the common sense and wisdom embedded in common law by everyday people. Ignore the naysayers who claim that only tech experts can regulate tech; for hundreds of years, liability has been an effective tool for society to promote innovation while insisting upon responsibility.

Project 2025 architect Russell Vought views medical science as a blue-state subsidy, not a public good. Vought's OMB is waging a multi-front war against the NIH's funding and peer review. Red-state researchers: time to launch a counter-attack. Tell your representatives & senators to keep politics out of the scientific method.

Today I voted to pass tough Russia sanctions legislation in the House. It has already passed the Senate, 86-11, and will now be signed into law. The law will impose tariffs on the top importers of Russian oil. I voted Yes because this legislation is critical to the support and defense of Ukraine as it fights on the front lines of the free world. Appeasement does not work. Victory is vital. To achieve a victory in which Ukraine's eastern border is secure; it can transport goods through the Black Sea; and it joins the European Union; NATO and partner nations must sanction Russian oil & gas exports while authorizing & equipping our ally to strike Russian oil & gas infrastructure directly. Only sanctions and strikes can strangle Vladimir Putin's war economy, for which oil is the lifeblood. Concerns have been raised that this legislation empowers the president's expensive and chaotic trade policy. This legislation does not create broad, unilateral tariff authority or give the President a new general-purpose trade weapon. It is Congress finally exercising its Article I authority to direct targeted tariffs at countries providing material support for Russia’s war against Ukraine. The Trump Administration’s damaging national security and trade strategy underscores the importance of Congress reasserting itself as a constitutional check on the President’s authority.

Press Release
Reps. Auchincloss, Houchin Introduce Bipartisan 16 & Up Social Media Act to Keep Kids Under 16 Off Addictive Social Media Platforms

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: [email protected] (Auchincloss) Washington, D.C. — Congressman Jake Auchincloss (D-MA) and Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-IN), co-chairs of the bipartisan Kids Online Safety Caucus, introduced the 16 & Up Social Media Act to establish a national age standard of 16 for social media platforms. Social media companies are the merchants and miners of digital dopamine, spending hundreds of billions of dollars annually to manipulate, monetize, and attention-frack America’s youth. Platforms built on infinite scroll, autoplay, push alerts, and personalized feeds are designed to keep users hooked. Children are the least equipped to resist these algorithms, as their prefrontal cortices — which are vital for controlling behavior — remain underdeveloped. The 16 & Up Social Media Act sets and enforces a minimum age of 16 for social media use, protecting children from these addictive platforms. The 16 & Up Social Media Act: Sets a national age standard of 16: Prohibits covered social media platforms from allowing users under 16 to create or maintain accounts. Focuses on design features: Applies strictly to platforms that use engagement-driven design features (like infinite scroll and personalized feeds) to target users. It does not regulate content. Ensures privacy and accountability: Mandates the deletion of children's data upon account termination and requires platforms to implement a clear, five-day appeals process for any account closures. “Social media corporations addict children for profit,” said Rep. Auchincloss. “The exploitation must stop. Our kids deserve their childhoods back.” “Every parent knows the feeling of watching a child disappear into a screen,” said Rep. Houchin. “These platforms were engineered by the smartest people in the world to hold attention, and they are winning that fight against our kids. Studies show that sixteen is the right line. This bill draws it clearly, applies it to every platform that uses these addictive features, and puts real enforcement behind it. Kids get their childhood back, and parents get a bright line they can rely on.” “Children's wellbeing is shaped by technologies that were designed for addiction yet face almost no oversight,” said Jonathan Haidt, Social Psychologist, NYU Stern School of Business, and author of The Anxious Generation. “This is not a parenting problem. It is a structural problem, and it demands a structural response. The goal is to stop addictive design entirely. Until then, gaining access to platforms with manipulative, unsafe design needs age minimums. The 16 & Up Social Media Act delivers exactly that.”

I was honored to deliver the keynote remarks at Taunton’s commemoration of the 25th anniversary of September 11. Below are my remarks: “It’s an honor to address this solemn assembly as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the attacks on September 11. That day is increasingly used as a marker – a pivot point – for what came before and what came after. It ended the innocent 1990s sense of one global village that had taken hold since the fall of the Soviet Union. It launched a series of wars whose seismic shocks are still shaking the Middle East today. Yet we owe it to the victims and heroes who experienced that day – and to my children’s generation who did not – to memorialize September 11 unto itself. Not for what came before. Not for what came after. But for the blood, sweat and tears of that awful event itself. It was a day of unbearable tragedy. Office workers jumped from skyscrapers rather rather than burn in an inferno. Airplane passengers lurched to collision in terrifying final moments. It was a day of remarkable heroism. Police officers and firefighters ran into those skyscrapers, into those infernos; many did not return. Airplane passengers stormed the cockpit, so that the final, terrifying collision did not kill other innocents. And it was a day of solidarity. Ferry boat pilots flocked to southern Manhattan to shepherd hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers to safety. Allied leaders pledged support and mutual defense. Americans from all walks of life felt strum those mystic chords of memory that bind us together as a proud people. Tragedy and heroism are with us still, every day, in measures grand and mundane. Solidarity, though, feels in short supply. We as Americans must restore our unity by reminding ourselves that we, all of us, are in a covenant to defend one another’s natural rights. These self-evident truths about equality and freedom are set forth in our opening statement as a people, the Declaration of Independence. Every one of us has a set of intrinsic rights: • to survive; • to not be tyrannized; • to live the life we choose for ourselves; • and to take part in determining who represents us and in holding them accountable. That’s the American Promise, our mutual pledge to uphold these inalienable rights. And the American Experiment is a project to protect one another’s rights by governing ourselves. We are a people united by our commitment to uphold and defend this Experiment, lest it perish from the Earth. These are the ideals Frederick Douglass championed in every speech he gave. This is the Founding Fathers in Philadelphia, Lincoln at Gettysburg, and Martin Luther King Jr. on the National Mall. Americans fought for these ideals at Valley Forge, Shiloh and Normandy; we advanced them at Seneca Falls, Selma and Stonewall. The American Experiment is what the enemies on 9/11 so despised, and also why we felt so stubbornly proud that day, amidst the tremendous sorrow and suffering. We honor the heroes and victims of September 11 – and we re-animate our shared spirit as a people – when we recommit ourselves to our American Promise, our covenant to defend one another’s natural rights.”
