On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, let’s resolve to remember the real history of our country and recognize the diverse voices, remarkable achievements and continuing contributions of Native Americans.
There’s no place like home. More than 500 true-blue democracy warriors came out to Montgomery College in Silver Spring last night to celebrate the last leg of our Rock the House tour and to fire up MoCo for overwhelming turnout for the Democratic ticket on Tuesday, November 3 – and to tell everyone to Vote Yes on 3. I am grateful to the huge crowd of friends and supporters who braved the downpour and came out to rally with us three weeks before Election Day. Profuse thx to the irresistible boogie-woogie blues pianist @RealDarylDavis, who is not only a dazzling musician but also a fearless, boundary-crossing converter of Klansmen. Huge thx also to the extraordinary rock n’ roll artist @EricHutchinson for his beautiful performance. Both artists grew up here and went to MCPS. Headed into the final stretch of this consequential election, I am grateful to be surrounded by everyone’s solidarity, creativity and vision.
On this we agree: Every American should pretend Trump is on the ballot.
All the world's authoritarians, from Russia and China to North Korea and Belarus, love capital punishment, spectacles of public violence, chaos. Pete Hegseth, fresh from overseeing the USS Lincoln debacle, offers a carnival of state execution.
This week's MD-08 Local Hero is retiring Delegate Bonnie Cullison who we celebrate for her nearly five decades of public service as a teacher, union leader and elected official. Thank you for your everlasting fight to keep health care affordable and our people healthy at every age. https://t.co/iw0kN67Rjl
The energy in @AngieNixon's campaign is amazing, and Florida now has the chance to elect a Senator who will fight for health care for all and not surrender to Trump corruption and chaos. Come on Sunshine State, put it in D!
On behalf of millions of taxpayers who have been falsely charged for political propaganda expenses you make in the name of “the U.S. Government,” kindly remit restitutionary payment to the United States Treasury. Russian currency, payments in crypto from pardoned white-collar felons and wire transfers from narco-traffickers in Honduras are no longer accepted.
Three years ago today, Hamas terrorists launched a mass terror attack on Israeli civilians, murdering nearly 1,200 Israeli men, women and children, including Jews, Christians and Muslims, in their communities and homes. Today the world remembers the victims of this slaughter, the deadliest mass attack on Jews since the Holocaust, and seeks an end to the savage cycles of terror, war and destruction in the Middle East.
WASHINGTON, D.C.— As the Trump Administration prepares propaganda signage to adorn the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-08) introduced legislation to ensure future generations learn about President Donald Trump’s commitment to censoring, whitewashing and fictionalizing American history. The Preserving and Remembering the History of Trump and other Tyrants Act directs officials from the Smithsonian Institution to collect and preserve artifacts reflecting the rise of governmental propaganda, corruption, and authoritarianism during the Trump presidencies as the basis for a permanent exhibition in the National Museum of American History. Last month, the Department of the Interior—under orders from President Trump—created propaganda signage to place outside of the National Museum of American History, warning visitors of curators’ “personal, radical ideologies.” Preserving these signs will educate Americans on how authoritarians attempt to control media, government and culture. “Unlike President Trump’s project of censoring, whitewashing and fictionalizing American history, my legislation will forever preserve his manifestations of authoritarian narcissism and his propagandistic assault on American history and American democracy,” said Rep. Raskin. “To avoid repeating this descent into authoritarianism, we must study this corrupt President’s actions and allow the public to learn about the numerous tools he deployed while attempting to remake American history in his own image and according to his own autocratic and white nationalist beliefs.” The legislation directs officials from the Smithsonian Institution to preserve the banners bearing President Trump’s face that are currently displayed outside of certain federal agencies; still images and videos from the media; personal narratives of American citizens who resisted and opposed the rise in authoritarianism in the United States; and other artifacts that the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution determines to have historical significance. The legislation also directs officials from the National Park Service to remove any signage that was erected near the National Museum of American History without the consent of Congress. Rep. Raskin has drawn on his expertise as an American constitutional scholar as he speaks out against the Trump Administration’s authoritarian tactics. This month, he introduced a Resolution condemning President Trump and MAGA’s campaign of book bans and censorship and advocating for the American freedom to read and think freely. There are still 3 weeks to go for the Congressional App Challenge! We look forward to seeing creative and thoughtful App submissions from all our middle and high school coders who live or go to school in MD-08 for this exciting challenge with students from across America. Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. I’m introducing legislation to ensure that the Smithsonian preserves the propaganda tools that the Trump Administration is using to warp and censor American history in the president’s own authoritarian self-image. My bill will allow future generations to learn about the president who wielded his powers like a tyrant-king and the Americans who fought back for democracy and freedom. https://t.co/a2eVKJXsdQ
Congrats to my friend @BlakeGendebien. He has gone from my “Impossible-to-Inevitable” Joint Fundraising Agreement to the DCCC’s Red-to-Blue program! This means Blake’s now a top-tier candidate in one of the most competitive districts and should have even greater fundraising and organizing support. Blake’s a dairy farmer and a high school basketball coach who’s running to lower gas, diesel and grocery prices; protect rural health care, SNAP, free and fair trade with Canada, Medicaid and Medicare; and build back the rural America that’s been ravaged under Trump. I’ve campaigned with Blake in the North Country several times and seen the great coalition he’s building to flip NY-21. Everyone, please check out @BlakeGendebien and push him over the top!

Right now, Republicans control all three branches of government, so if you like the way things are going with the Iran war, total inflation, ruinous tariffs, absolute corruption and vanishing health care — that's your team. But if you stand with the vast majority of Americans, check your registration and make a plan to vote: https://t.co/Ad9iJIw4Jl
This was at 4:00 PM, and I confess, I wasn't expecting President Trump to move so quickly—just a few hours later— to agree to my demand that he pay for his own bad propaganda ads. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter, Sir! https://t.co/ixE6VxC5AT
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-08) and Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) introduced a resolution standing strong for the American freedom to read, write and learn. The lawmakers’ resolution condemns MAGA’s escalating campaign of book bans in school libraries and censorship targeting the Smithsonian Institution and other public museums, parks and facilities. The lawmakers’ resolution specifically cites book bans issued by the Trump Administration, MAGA state legislatures, local libraries and schools across America. This year, federal officials, at the direction of President Trump, censoredbooks andeducational materials at the Smithsonian Institution and Department of Defense Education Activity schools. “The freedom to read, write and think independently are all rights enshrined in the First Amendment to our Constitution,”said Rep. Raskin."MAGA’s book bans and censorship campaigns seek to control the freedom of thought in schools, libraries and government, but we are fighting back against this authoritarian assault on free expression and American democracy.” “Any attempt to ban books because someone has an ideological disagreement or doesn’t believe in capturing the full scope of history is un-American,”said Senator Schatz. “Freedom of expression is a founding principle of our country, and it's up to all of us to stand up against these attacks on this fundamental right.” More than 12,000 individual books were banned in America between July 2025 and June 2026, according to a report by PEN America. This includes books like “The Bluest Eye” by Toni Morrison and “MARCH” by former Congressman and Civil Rights Movement hero John Lewis, Andrew Aydin and Nate Powell. PEN America’s report captures the proliferation of MAGA book bans that specifically target books written by and about outsiders and individuals from marginalized backgrounds. Books with LGBTQ+ characters or themes face a disproportionate risk of being banned. According to PEN America, from July 2025 to June 2026, 24 States across the country limited access to certain books, including— Texas, where at least 8,000 books in total have been banned or restricted in 45 school districts; Florida, where at least 3,000 books in total have been banned or restricted in 35 school districts; Ohio, where at least 115 books in total have been banned or restricted in one school district; Utah, where at least 100 books in total have been banned or restricted in five school districts; and Michigan, where at least 65 books in total have been banned or restricted in two school districts. The resolution is endorsed by PEN America and the American Library Association (ALA); Authors Against Banned Books; Banned Books Week Coalition; Center for American Progress; EdTrust; EveryLibrary; Freedom to Learn Foundation; Florida Freedom to Read Project; Freedom to Read Project; Hatchette Book Group; Interfaith Alliance; JCRC of Greater Washington; Jewish Community Relations Council of Portland; Jewish Council for Public Affairs; Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester; Lee & Low Books ; Let Utah Read; Macmillan Publishing; National Coalition Against Censorship; National Council for Jewish Women; National Council of Teachers of English; National Education Association; Penguin Random House; PFLAG National; Red Wine and Blue Education Fund; Simon & Schuster; Texas Freedom to Read Project; and the Tucson Jewish Museum & Holocaust Center. I’m thrilled that 8th District-born rocker and singer-songwriter @EricHutchinson and dazzling blues-and-R&B pianist, political activist, and Montgomery County native @RealDarylDavis will be joining us on Sunday, October 11th at 6:00pm in Silver Spring to ROCK THE HOUSE! SIGN UP FOR THE EVENT NOW at https://t.co/jkftLrlXQn.
This Banned Books Week, we’re fighting back against President Trump and MAGA’s spiraling national censorship campaign targeting our free press, our schools, our libraries and the Smithsonian. I’ve introduced a Resolution with @SenBrianSchatz condemning book bans and supporting the American freedom to read and discuss ideas. https://t.co/ig1Qev7q0S
Joined my excellent colleagues Lois Frankel (Congresswoman who represents Mar-a-Lago) and Darren Soto for a full-house fundraiser in West Palm. Also there: the great State Rep. Emily Gregory, who flipped the red district covering Mar-a-Lago by 13 points and defeated a MAGA Trumpie. Humiliated, the Republicans are spending millions against her—we’ve got her back!
The Big Blue Wave will start right here in the stormy Atlantic waters near Mar-a-Lago where I came to speak to a sold-out crowd of 450 fervent activists at the Palm Beach County Democratic Party dinner, campaigned with the sparkling new House candidate Pia Dandiya (greatest new name in American politics!) in the 22nd, a former teacher and principal running a powerful grassroots campaign, and talked with Rep. Maxwell Frost to large groups of very inspiring young people from Democracy Summer classes past and future. These Sunshine State Dems are surging—more upsets in the making!
Spent the afternoon rocking the next House and Senate with Florida’s next great US Senator, @AngieNixon, and her awesome dynamic campaign. We were in Lauderhill in Broward County appearing before an effusive, diverse, multigenerational, multi-partisan crowd demanding real political change and a break from MAGA war, tariffs, inflation, division and corruption! Monday is the last day to register to vote in Florida, so get with it you recent retirees and transplants to Florida, 18-year-olds and slowpokes. Time to register and vote to renew and revive our democracy!
I'm down in Florida campaigning with our surging Democratic team, but I had to stop by Mar-a-Lago to see for myself this global symbol of decadence, corruption and oligarchy before Florida follows the advice of our great Senate candidate Angie Nixon and turns it into a data center. After all, Donald Trump says if you don’t want a data center in your backyard, you want to be “poor and backward.” He definitely doesn’t want to be poor!
Ohio Dems on the move! Last week I campaigned across Northern Ohio for @bpforcongress, who is about to topple Max Miller (Miller couldn’t even win a primary in his own family at this point), and the fervent champion of the working middle class, @Marcy_Kaptur, the longest-serving woman in the history of Congress. We’re building a broad coalition of Democrats, independents and disaffected Republicans to put an end to all the corruption. When reporters ask me who’s going to win, I tell them I’m not in the prediction business—I’m in the mobilization business. And we’re mobilizing for landslide upsets—everywhere.
This week's MD-08 Local Hero is Sarah Albus of Kensington, the visionary Executive Director of Open Door Sports. ODS is an inclusionary sports league where thousands of children and young adults living with disabilities have come, over the last decade, to share in the joy of being part of a sports team. ODS is a game-changer and so is Sarah! https://t.co/KznDFByv6h
Davey Hearn is free! Judge Todd Edelman dismissed Trump's bogus charges of felony destruction of federal property with prejudice (for all time). This frame-up cover-up job for the "rushed and botched" installation done by Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago pool guy goes down the drain like the shoddy paint job done by this no-bid contract insider, who took home a cool $15 million. Davey is a hero and a patriot, but look who else touched the Reflecting Pool water in August of 1963, as they watched Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Solidarity is the watchword.
