America faces a cost-of-living crisis made worse by the actions of the Trump Administration and its Congressional Republican enablers. I joined @DefendUSAAction, @BarbaraFavola and @NadariusClarkVA to discuss the impact on Virginians and how we are fighting back to make life more affordable.

For over a century, generations of activists and elected officials have fought to enshrine gender equality into the U.S. Constitution. As a state senator, I was proud to carry the legislation making Virginia the 38th and final state necessary to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in 2020, meeting the constitutional requirements to make it the law of the land. RATIFIED: A Century of Struggle for the Equal Rights Amendment tells the story of how we did it. This week, I joined the filmmaker and members of the team that made it happen at @guwgst for a screening and discussion of the work left to be done to achieve gender equality under the law.

In a government by, of and for the people, the right to vote is sacred. That’s why I’ve fought to ensure every eligible voter can cast their ballot with the peace of mind that it will count. Today I joined @RepJoeMorelle, @Rep_Walkinshaw, @RepBobbyScott, @RepSuhas and @RepVindman for a shadow hearing on the importance of securing our elections and protecting the integrity of American democracy.

Press Release
McClellan Launches 2026 Veteran of the Year Program

Washington D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) announced the launch of her 2026 Veteran of the Year Program to recognize, honor and appreciate veterans living in Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District for their service. “Veterans gave their time and put their bodies on the line to protect our nation, and they continue to serve after their military careers. Their commitment, courage and selflessness deserves our respect and deepest gratitude,” said Congresswoman McClellan. “My fourth annual Veteran of the Year Program honors veterans living in Virginia’s Fourth and celebrates their continued efforts to give back to our communities. I encourage all those who know a veteran who’s continued to serve people in our district to send in their nominations today!” Eligible nominees must be honorably discharged veterans of any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and must currently live in Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District. Nominations for Rep. McClellan’s Veteran of the Year Program are due by October 28, 2026. Last year, Congresswoman McClellan recognized U.S. Air Force Colonel William Butler, who dedicated over 30 years of service to saving lives, advancing medical research and educating his community. In 2024, she recognized Lt. Col. Curt Powell, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served two combat deployments before volunteering as a mentor for local veterans. In 2023, she honored Chief Warrant Officer Four Charles H. Talley, Jr., who dedicated 34 years of his life to the U.S. Army before continuing to support aspiring young professionals and active-duty servicemembers in Virginia’s Fourth.

For over a thousand years before European settlers arrived, the Chickahominy people lived along the Chickahominy River. Recognized as a tribe by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1983, the Chickahomony gained federal recognition as a sovereign nation in 2018. This weekend, I joined the 74th Annual Chickahominy Indian Tribe Fall Festival & Pow-Wow to bring greetings and celebrate their history, culture and traditions.

I am saddened to hear of Jim Ukrop’s passing. As a businessman, philanthropist and civic leader, there was no bigger booster for the City of Richmond. Jim’s passion for closing the racial divides in the former Capital of the Confederacy knew no limits. A self-described “dot connector,” he loved identifying young talent and connecting them to people who could help them reach their full potential. I am honored to be one of the dots he helped connect over the years, and to have called him a friend. Godspeed, Jim.

Happy National Public Lands Day! This year, we celebrate “Caring for Our Shared America,” honoring the milestones of our nation and its connection to these communal outdoor spaces. VA-04 boasts three national parks and historic sites: the Richmond National Battlefield Park, Petersburg National Battlefield and Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site. We also have hundreds of other public lands throughout the Commonwealth, including roadless areas protected for recreation, tourism, conservation and more. As spaces like these face threats from sweeping cuts under the Trump Administration, I’m fighting to preserve these spaces for generations to come.

For 25 years, the Roadless Rule has protected 45 million acres of the National Forest System across the country. This includes nearly 394,000 acres in Virginia — more than any other state east of the Mississippi River. Now, the Trump Administration wants to repeal the Roadless Rule and open these lands to road construction, logging and other industrial activity. I led @MarkWarner, @SenTimKaine, @BobbyScott, @RepDonBeyer, @RepVindman, @RepSuhas and @Rep_Walkinshaw in strong opposition to this proposal because of the potentially devastating impacts this could have on water quality, biodiversity, economic development and more for these regions.
