Our hearts are with the family, friends, and fellow Soldiers of the Soldier who tragically lost their life during a training incident at Fort Hood. We lift them up in prayer and ask for comfort, strength, and peace during this incredibly difficult time. Twenty-five years later, we remember the lives forever changed by the attacks on our nation. We honor and mourn those we lost, remember the families affected, and pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call. We will never forget. https://t.co/6G2vGa1oAP

Congratulations to Williamson County Precinct 2 Constable Jeff Anderson and his Command Staff for completing the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association program. The FBI-LEEDA program expands law enforcement leadership through training, education and networking and their completion speaks to the deep commitment these officers have to WilCo’s public safety. Carter Applauds Fort Hood's Selection for Army's Janus Program

Representative John Carter (TX-31) today applauded the U.S. Army's selection of Fort Hood as a site for the Janus Program, pairing the installation with General Atomics to develop and operate a nuclear microreactor. "Fort Hood size and mission require constant, assured power to support mission infrastructure," said Carter. "I strongly advocated for Fort Hood's selection earlier this year because I know The Great Place has the mission, infrastructure, and people necessary to lead this important effort. I'm thrilled the Army agrees. The Janus program will strengthen readiness, reinforce defense innovation, and help ensure our soldiers can depend on secure power when it matters most." In February 2026, Carter sent a letter to Army leadership advocating for Fort Hood's selection as a final Janus site. The Army's Janus Program has chosen five sites and five vendors to develop and operate nuclear microreactors, awarding $2.2 billion for development.

Texas has lost a trailblazer. I’m deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of my dearest friends, Kay Granger. For decades, she led with grace and a deep love of Texas. Kay was someone whose counsel I valued and character I admired. While we all mourn her passing, I hope everyone also celebrates her remarkable service. Texas is a better place because of Kay’s leadership.

Carter Amendment to Protect Servicemembers During Exams Included in House-passed NDAA

Congressman John Carter (TX-31) successfully included an amendment strengthening oversight of medical chaperone protections at military medical facilities in the FY2027 National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the House Wednesday evening. The amendment requires a review of all Defense Health Agency (DHA) facilities and their compliance with required chaperone policies from the agency's December 15, 2025, policy memo. The amendment requires that after the full review, Congress shall receive a report containing detailed plans and resources necessary for full compliance, and a timeline for addressing any deficiencies. The amendment adds a layer of routine inspections and data collection to continually monitor compliance to prevent future incidents. "The women who serve and the military families that support them deserve to feel safe when seeking medical care," said Congressman John Carter. "The allegations against Blaine McGraw represent a devastating breach of trust, and while we can't undo the harm these survivors endured, we can take meaningful actions to prevent anything like this from happening again. While DHA has taken steps to include chaperones during sensitive exams, the policy is only good if it's being followed. My amendment establishes clear oversight and ensures Congress remains involved so any noncompliance can be addressed quickly."

City of Belton employee Ethan Van de Plas was working near Nolan Creek when a woman jumped into the high water. The situation quickly became dangerous, but Ethan sprang into action. He jumped into the rain-swollen creek and pulled her to safety. I recently honored Ethan for his selfless service with a congressional certificate of recognition and an American flag flown over the US Capitol in his honor. Ethan plans to join the military soon, and I have no doubt he has the bravery and selflessness to succeed. Well done, Ethan!

When Joel, a veteran injured in Operation Inherent Resolve, reached out for assistance with his military personnel records and combat awards, we went to work. Within 2 weeks, his records were received and within 3, his awards were ready to be presented to him for outstanding service. It was a pleasure recognizing Joel for his brave service to the nation. It is because of warriors like Joel that America will celebrate 250 years of freedom and liberty next week.

For far too long, the Iranian regime has pursued nuclear capabilities while exporting violence and supporting terrorist networks that threaten the United States, our allies, and stability around the world. Their actions have endangered American lives and undermined peace in an already volatile region. The President has made clear that the United States will always seek peace, but we will never hesitate to defend our people and our national interests. Iran’s continued hostility and disregard for international norms have brought us to a serious and consequential moment. America must stand firm in protecting our citizens, supporting our allies, and upholding peace through strength. Please keep the men and women of our Armed Forces in your prayers as they carry out this mission, along with the families who support them from home. Their service represents the very best of our nation. May God protect them, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.

Last night, I took my seat in the House Chamber to hear President Trump outline the progress made during his first year back in office and share his priorities for the year ahead. Under President Trump’s leadership, we are restoring economic strength, reasserting American leadership on the world stage, securing our border, and putting American families first. His commitment to the America First agenda is not just rhetoric. It is delivering real results and renewed confidence across our nation. I was proud to stand in support of an agenda that prioritizes our workers, our military, our law enforcement, and our values. There is more work to be done, but the direction is clear and the momentum is strong. I remain committed to partnering with President Trump to advance policies that keep our nation strong, secure, and prosperous for generations to come. I left the chamber grateful for the trust Central Texans have placed in me and more committed than ever to serving faithfully and responsibly, always with future generations in mind.
