This Legislation Comes In Light Of Reporting That Secretary Of Homeland Security Kristi Noem Spent $220 Million in Tax Dollars To Pay A Firm With Ties To Her For Ads Featuring Herself WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen introduced the No Self-Promotion with Public Dollars Act to prohibit members of the President’s Cabinet from using taxpayer dollars to run self-promoting ad campaigns, and from hiring any political consulting and advertising firms with which they and other high-ranking agency officials have ties. In testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this month, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem admitted to using $220 million in taxpayer dollars for an advertising campaign in which she is prominently featured. According to reporting, the contracts for these ads were then awarded to firms with ties to sitting cabinet members, senior executive political appointees, and Donald Trump. “At a time when Donald Trump and Washington Republicans cut much-needed Medicaid funding to pay for tax cuts for billionaires, Kristi Noem burned through $220 million in taxpayer funds on a self-serving, self-promoting ad campaign,” said Senator Rosen. “No other Cabinet official should ever be allowed to waste Americans’ hard-earned dollars in that way or hire their friends’ political ad-making firms. I’m proud to introduce this bill to cut down on this shameful practice and protect tax dollars.” Senator Rosen has been a vocal defender of taxpayer dollars against waste, fraud, and abuse. Her bipartisan No CORRUPTION Act, which closed a loophole that allowed former members of Congress to continue receiving taxpayer-funded pensions after being convicted of felonies, was signed into law. Last Congress, Senator Rosen also supported the Government Spending Oversight Act to help reduce waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending. Earlier that year, she announced that the bipartisan Billion Dollar Boondoggle Act she joined to increase transparency in government projects that are delayed or over budget passed the Senate. ###
Senator Rosen’s Legislation Was Included As Part Of The Bipartisan Weather Act WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen’s bill to improve weather forecasting to help Nevada farmers and ranchers recently passed the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation as part of the bipartisan Weather Act. Senator Rosen’s Smarter Weather Forecasting for Water Management, Farming, and Ranching Act creates new subseasonal and seasonal forecasting pilot projects under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to improve advanced forecasts ranging between two weeks to two years, establishing more consistent short-term and long-term weather forecasting. This would help farmers and ranchers be more prepared for potential weather anomalies, such as flash floods or extreme drought. The bipartisan Weather Act, which Senator Rosen helped introduce and pass, modernizes weather forecasting, supports infrastructure for critical weather data and research, strengthens emergency preparedness for severe weather, and provides farmers and ranchers with better tools and services for agriculture and water management. “As extreme weather events become more common and less predictable, we must invest in technology and resources to improve forecasting, so that our local communities can better prepare,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m thrilled to see my bill advance through committee and get closer to becoming law. This bill will ensure Nevada’s farmers and ranchers have access to forecasts that will improve their resilience to weather anomalies.” Senator Rosen has been a leader in the fight to ensure Nevada is prepared for extreme weather. As part of the bipartisan government funding bill for 2026, Senator Rosen secured $4.25 million to support wildfire suppression in Nevada and across the country, as well as $6.1 million for Regional Climate Centers — one of which is located in Reno. She also helped secure over $4 million for wildfire prevention funding for the Lake Tahoe area. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined Senate Democrats in introducing a bill to protect small businesses and their consumers from further tariff-related harm. Following the Supreme Court’s decision last month to strike down President Trump’s illegal International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs, Trump almost immediately imposed a 10 percent global tariff using Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 – an outdated authority that is already being challenged in court. The Small Business Liberation 2.0 Act would exempt small businesses from paying Section 122 tariffs, refund small businesses for any Section 122 tariffs paid, and prevent large corporations from price gouging consumers because of Trump’s new tariff policy. “Trump’s cost-raising tariffs have made it incredibly difficult for Nevada’s small businesses to plan for the future. Even though the Supreme Court declared the tariffs illegal, Trump immediately doubled down and imposed additional tariffs under a different, obsolete, and almost certainly unlawful authority – ensuring the chaos will continue,” said Senator Rosen. “Our small businesses simply can’t afford to stay open under these conditions, which is why I’m helping introduce this bill to exempt them from Trump’s latest tariffs and provide them with much needed financial relief. Small businesses are the backbone of Nevada’s economy, and I’m committed to doing everything I can to help them succeed.” Senator Rosen is a strong supporter of Nevada’s small businesses and has been a vocal critic of Trump’s reckless and illegal tariffs. Last month, she introduced the Housing Tariff Exclusion Act to exclude homebuilding materials from Trump’s tariffs. Senator Rosen also helped introduce a bill to ensure tariff refunds for small businesses affected by tariffs. She has also pushed legislation to protect consumers from tariff-related hikes in grocery prices. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped pass a bipartisan package in the Senate to address the housing crisis. The bipartisan Housing for the 21st Century Act aims to increase the amount of houses built while keeping prices low for hardworking Americans. A report last year ranked Nevada as the state with the second highest number of cost-burdened renters and homeowners, with over 50 percent of Nevada renters and homeowners paying more than 35 percent of their monthly income on rent or mortgage. Nevada also ranked last in availability of affordable housing for low-income households. The Housing for the 21st Century Act contains over forty provisions to lower housing costs, including creating federal incentives for municipalities that successfully build more housing by providing grants to assist states and localities with planning and implementation efforts. It also streamlines the approval process for new housing, bringing down construction costs for new buildings. “Hardworking Nevadans are dealing with high costs of housing and rent, squeezing their budgets and forcing them to make tough decisions. I’m laser focused on tackling the housing affordability issue from all angles – from removing tariffs on homebuilding materials to cracking down on corporate price gouging in the housing market,” says Senator Rosen. “I am proud to have helped pass this comprehensive bipartisan package in the Senate to help fight the housing crisis, increase the housing supply, and give thousands of Nevadans the opportunity to afford a place to live.” Senator Rosen has fought to make housing more affordable in Nevada. This year, she has introduced legislation to exclude homebuilding materials from Trump’s tariffs, and called on the administration to crack down on corporate price gouging in the housing market. Her bipartisan CONSTRUCTS Act would invest in training the construction workforce in order to help increase the housing supply and lower housing costs for Nevadans. Senator Rosen has also joined legislation to increase housing credit allocation for each state and secured funding to support housing for homeless veterans ###
WASHINGTON, DC – As gas prices in Nevada hit the highest levels since 2022, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) urged President Donald Trump to immediately release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help bring down costs. Following the launch of Operation Epic Fury, Trump said gas prices have “gone up less than [he] thought they’d go up,” due to Iran’s de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the Administration’s seeming failure to plan for such an outcome. At one point in the past week, however, the average price of gas in Nevada hit $4.21 per gallon; nearly a dollar more than the national average, which has doubled since a week ago. “This is coming at a time when hardworking families are already being squeezed by high costs. Over the last year, families across the country paid $310 more for groceries than they did in 2024,” wrote Senator Rosen. “When gas prices go up even further, like we are currently seeing, the cost of other essentials – particularly groceries – rise even more. The pricing volatility in the oil market is making it impossible for Nevadans to budget for gas, groceries, energy, and other staples.” “You campaigned on the promise that you were going to take action to lower costs for Americans. Now, you claim that the affordability crisis is “a hoax,” and your current actions show it. It’s time to act swiftly and address the affordability crisis you created that is being compounded by the conflict abroad. I urge you to use all methods at your disposal to lower gas prices and provide certainty to Nevada families, including initiating a release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve,” she concluded. Read the full letter HERE. Senator Rosen has been working to bring down prices for Nevada families by pushing back on the Trump Administration’s cost-raising policies. Last month, she introduced a bill to exclude homebuilding materials from Trump’s tariffs to help lower home construction costs and prevent Trump from making the housing crisis even worse. Late last year, she introduced a bill to block Trump from raising grocery costs through his tariffs. Senator Rosen also helped introduce legislation that would require the Trump Administration to refund fees collected from Trump’s illegal tariffs, prioritizing those individuals and small businesses who were hurt the most. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced $50,000 in federal funding for the New Frontier Treatment Center in Fallon, Nevada. This funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Grant will support the expansion of the residential treatment facility, which provides psychiatric support, primary and mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and basic skills training to Nevadans in need. “I’m pleased to see more federal funding coming to our state to support Fallon,” said Senator Rosen. “As rural communities face difficulties accessing health care and mental care, funding like this is essential for the well-being of hardworking families in all corners of Nevada. I’ll keep working across party lines to deliver the federal resources that Nevada deserves.” “Thanks to the New Frontier Health Care Center, residents of Fallon don’t have to travel for miles to seek needed mental health treatment,” said Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. “With this new funding, New Frontier will be better equipped to care for both its patients and its staff. I will never stop fighting to ensure rural Nevada has access to high-quality, affordable health care.” Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto have been steadfast champions for Nevada’s hospitals and health centers, and they have been strongly opposed to Washington Republican efforts to gut Americans’ access to health care. Earlier this year, they helped introduce the Health Care Affordability Act to make permanent the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits — ensuring that Nevada families can continue to afford coverage beyond 2025. They have also helped introduce legislation to reverse the cuts made in the One Big Beautiful Bill. ###
LAS VEGAS, NV – On Friday, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined the Culinary Union in a roundtable discussion on the state of tourism and hospitality in Nevada and how Donald Trump’s policies have impacted Las Vegas’ local economy and workers. As a result of Trump’s tariffs, immigration policies, and attacks on Canada, Las Vegas suffered a decline in total visitors of 7.5 percent in 2025, the worst in a non-pandemic year since 1970. Lower visitation rates to Las Vegas means fewer visitors spending money in hotels, restaurants, and small businesses – and that leads to fewer shifts and tips for hospitality workers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there was a decline of 27,000 hospitality jobs last month. “Donald Trump has been the single most damaging factor for the Las Vegas economy since the pandemic. His illegal tariffs, harmful immigration policies, and fights with Canada have wreaked havoc on our tourism industry and its workers, ” said Senator Rosen. “From lower visitation rates and fewer shifts, we’re already seeing direct impacts on Nevada and the hospitality workers who run our economy. I’m so grateful to join the Culinary Union today to hear directly from its members about how they’re being impacted. I’ll keep fighting in the Senate against the terrible ‘Trump slump’ and the policies that are hurting our workers.” “Workers are living through what we call the ‘Trump Slump’ and it’s showing up in their hours and their paychecks. This administration’s chaotic trade and immigration policies have put a serious chill on travel and tourism. That means fewer hours, less tips, and hard conversations at kitchen tables,” said Ted Pappageorge, Secretary-Treasurer for the Culinary Union. “At the same time, we’re seeing a deportation system that targets long‑time, otherwise law‑abiding workers and tears families apart. If the ICE crackdown that happened in Minneapolis hit the Las Vegas Strip – visitors simply wouldn’t come here. Culinary Union members fought hard and won strong contracts, but those gains are being undermined by an economy tilted toward billionaires while working families fall further behind. Instead of addressing the real cost‑of‑living crisis: Housing, utility bills, groceries, and health care – this administration is waging a war on working families and our economy. Las Vegas is a hospitality‑dependent economy and we need policies that welcomes visitors, respects workers, and strengthens our communities, and we’re going to keep organizing and supporting leaders like Senator Rosen who are fighting for a real course correction.” Senator Rosen has been a champion for Nevada’s travel and tourism industry. Last month, she sent a letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem urging her to immediately reopen all trusted traveler programs. In January, Senator Rosen sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce calling for a hearing on the state of the U.S. travel and tourism industry. She has also helped introduce bipartisan legislation that would restore funding for important tourism programs. WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK), along with Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Dave McCormick (R-PA), introduced a bill to increase the mandatory retirement age for America’s diplomats. The bipartisan Foreign Service Age Integration and Reform (FAIR) Act would help the State Department’s foreign service retain experienced personnel, reduce training costs, and ensure that officers receive full social security benefits. Under the Foreign Service Act of 1980, career members of the Foreign Service are forced to retire by the end of the month they turn 65, consistent with Social Security’s Full Retirement Age (FRA) in place at the time the law was enacted. Despite the FRA changing to 67 in 1983, the mandatory retirement age for the Foreign Service has remained the same. The FAIR Act would realign the Foreign Service mandatory retirement age with the FRA, increasing the mandatory retirement age from 65 to 67 and increasing it if the FRA increases in the future. “Our Foreign Service Officers are crucial to America’s global leadership, acting as the face of the U.S. across the world,” said Senator Rosen. “It is critical that we keep a strong and capable force abroad, while also guaranteeing that they are taken care of once they are ready to step down. I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan bill to ensure our Foreign Service Officers can qualify for full Social Security benefits in their retirement.” “The men and women of the Foreign Service are the backbone of our foreign policy,” said Senator Sullivan. “This common-sense legislation, which doesn’t cost the taxpayers, will align mandatory retirement for the Foreign Service with the Social Security retirement age—allowing our country to get the benefit of experience and making sure our Foreign Service officers qualify for full Social Security benefits when they retire.” “Our Foreign Service officers and State Department officials carry out vital functions including assisting U.S. citizens and promoting American values abroad,” said Senator Van Hollen. “This bipartisan legislation will help maintain a qualified diplomatic corps while ensuring our foreign service officers are afforded full Social Security benefits after dedicating their careers to serving our country.” “I am proud to support the FAIR Act. This bi-partisan, common sense legislation will match the mandatory retirement age for career diplomats with Social Security’s Full Retirement Age,” said Senator McCormick. “Our dedicated foreign service officers have spent years mastering foreign languages and building deep expertise in regions around the world. At a time when American leadership abroad has never been more critical, we cannot afford to lose that experience prematurely.” “The current Foreign Service mandatory retirement age of 65 effectively sidelines our most experienced diplomats prematurely,” said John Dinkelman, President of the American Foreign Service Association. “Raising the mandatory retirement age to 67 is a practical, long overdue step that keeps vital expertise in service of U.S. foreign policy and the American People.” As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Rosen has worked hard to ensure that the US maintains a strong global presence. Last Congress, she helped pass critical aid in response to humanitarian crises around the world. She’s also been a vocal supporter of USAID, criticizing the Trump Administration’s decision to dismantle the program last February. Senator Rosen has also worked to protect and expand access to critical earned benefits, like social security. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement after voting in favor of Senator Tim Kaine’s (D-VA) War Powers Resolution on Iran: “I want to thank our brave U.S. servicemembers who have risked, and continue to risk, their lives conducting Operation Epic Fury. I’m absolutely heartbroken for those who have lost their lives, and I pray that there won’t be any more American casualties. “Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, and it has been dead set on the destruction of the United States and Israel. The Iranian regime and its proxies have blood on their hands from the thousands of American and IDF troops who they have killed and wounded. For these reasons, I’ve always believed that Iran can never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon and that the Iranian people deserve to have the chance at a better future. As we have seen in the recent violent crackdowns on Iranian protestors, the regime has had no hesitation in ruthlessly punishing its own innocent citizens, who have suffered for so many decades under their government’s cruelty. I shed no tears over the death of Ayatollah Khamenei and so many other leaders of the brutal Iranian regime. The world is better off without them. “At the same time, we owe it to our servicemembers and the American people to ensure we don’t enter into another protracted conflict in the Middle East, without authorization from Congress and without concrete goals or strategy. The U.S. Constitution is clear that only Congress has the authority to declare war, and the American people are wary of open-ended wars with unclear objectives. The Trump Administration has so far failed to make the case to Congress and the American people of what they hope to accomplish and how they will protect U.S. servicemembers. That is why I voted in support of this War Powers Resolution, which still allows the United States to defend itself against imminent threats from Iran.” ###
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement in response to Operation Epic Fury. “I am grateful for our brave men and women who are conducting Operation Epic Fury and am praying for those servicemembers who are under attack across the region. The White House must immediately provide all of Congress with a detailed, classified briefing on this operation and its long-term strategy, including how it intends to prevent instability across the region,” said Senator Rosen. “I’ve always believed that Iran can never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon – especially because the Iranian regime is fully committed to the destruction of the U.S. and Israel. At the same time, Iran’s support for ballistic missiles and terrorist proxies are some of the leading national security threats to the U.S., Israel, and the region. The Iranian regime and its proxies have blood on their hands from the thousands of American and IDF troops who they have killed and wounded, and the many others who now sit in harm’s way. As we have seen in the recent violent crackdowns on Iranian protestors that have killed tens of thousands of innocent people, the regime has no hesitation in ruthlessly punishing its own citizens, who have suffered for so many decades under their government’s cruelty. I stand with the Iranian people in their hope for a better future and will continue to work in a bipartisan way in Congress to provide them the support they need to access critical information that aids their efforts for freedom and defend against and document human rights violations. Likewise, my support for Israel and for ensuring it has what it needs to protect itself from attacks by Iran and its proxies remains ironclad. At the same time, I am concerned that the President’s approach to armed conflict over the past year and his Administration’s history of repeatedly withholding information and misleading Congress could lead us into another protracted Middle East conflict, without authorization from Congress. The American people are wary of prolonged military engagements abroad, especially when the objectives are unclear. That is why the Constitution is clear that only Congress has the ability to declare war and authorize the use of military force. I will continue to stand with and pray for the safety of our troops, personnel, and Americans across the region,” Senator Rosen concluded. ###
Letter Condemns Secretary Noem For Abusing Authority To Undermine Travel And Tourism For Political Purposes WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) sent a letter urging Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem to immediately reopen the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Global Entry program, and ensure that Transportation Security Administration (TSA) PreCheck will remain open. The letter also requests that DHS explain the decision-making process that led them to suspend the programs as part of shutdown-related operational adjustments, given that neither Global Entry nor TSA PreCheck predominantly rely on federally appropriated funding to operate. The Trump administration’s harmful and unnecessary decision to suspend Global Entry and potentially shut down TSA PreCheck, places avoidable strain on CBP officers, TSA agents, and the lawfully traveling public. “Global Entry and TSA PreCheck are both longstanding trusted traveler programs designed to expedite screening and entry for pre-vetted, low-risk travelers. Both programs are funded primarily through user fees that applicants and enrollees pay, not through annual discretionary appropriations,” wrote Senator Rosen. “Therefore, given the lack of connection to appropriated dollars, your decision to suspend these fee-funded programs – and in the case of Global Entry, keep it closed – raises important questions about the legal and operational analysis underlying DHS’s actions and proposals. Moreover, Global Entry and TSA PreCheck allow CBP and TSA officers to concentrate resources on unknown or higher-risk travelers. Suspending these programs increases congestion, lengthens wait times at airports and ports of entry, and imposes unnecessary burdens on lawful travelers and U.S. commerce.” “Your recent decision to unnecessarily shut down Global Entry is part of a troubling trend of you and Special Government Employee (SGE) Corey Lewandowski using your authority to pick and choose what government services to provide, withhold, or threaten to withhold to maximize the Administration’s political leverage and create uncertainty,” continued the senator. “Given these concerns, I urge DHS to immediately reopen Global Entry and ensure that PreCheck remains available to travelers. I also request a detailed explanation of the decision-making process that led to the suspension of TSA PreCheck and Global Entry, including the legal authority relied upon, the operational or budgetary assessments conducted, the officials who authorized the action, and the rationale for restoring PreCheck while leaving Global Entry closed.” The full letter can be found HERE. As a member of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Senator Rosen has been a leader in promoting and defending Nevada’s travel and tourism industry and its workforce. She has also pushed against measures by the Trump administration that prioritize cost-cutting over the safety of Americans, and has been an advocate for Nevada’s transportation and infrastructure needs. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Dave McCormick (R-PA) introduced the bipartisan Iran Human Rights, Internet Freedom, and Accountability Act to increase pressure against the Islamic Republic of Iran after the regime locked down access to the internet and killed tens of thousands of its own citizens during mass protests throughout the country. The legislation takes a coordinated approach to confronting the regime’s repression, targeting four key areas: expanding internet access for Iranian civilians amid regime blackouts and repression, identifying and enforcing sanctions on human rights abusers and their enablers, broadening U.S. broadcasting and human rights programming, and strengthening cybersecurity tools for Iranian journalists, human rights activists, and civil society. “The people of Iran have been forced to live under a repressive regime that has used censorship and internet blackouts to weaken efforts by its people to fight back,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan bill to support the brave Iranian people by expanding internet access, transparent broadcasting, and human rights programs. Iran’s future must be shaped by its people, who deserve to have their rights protected and free access to information.” “The Iran Human Rights, Internet Freedom, and Accountability Act of 2026 builds on America’s efforts to stand with the Iranian people against a regime that is economically, militarily, and morally bankrupt,” said Senator McCormick. “This bipartisan legislation will expand internet access amid regime blackouts and repression, enforce sanctions on human rights violators including their enablers, and promote human rights documentation and accountability.” Senator Rosen has been a steadfast advocate for strengthening our national security, combating terrorism, supporting Israel and other U.S. allies in the Middle East, and countering threats from Iran’s authoritarian regime and their terrorist proxies, such as the Houthis, Hezbollah, and Hamas. She has led bipartisan efforts to freeze Iranian assets, tighten oil sanctions, advance internet freedom for Iranian civilians, designate the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization, and hold them accountable for possible human rights violations. Senator Rosen continues to support strong U.S. foreign policy priorities focused on safeguarding global stability. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the below statement following President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address tonight. “Donald Trump spent hours lying by saying life has gotten better since he came back into office, but Nevadans know the truth: prices are still too high, millions have lost access to health care, and his illegal tariffs are hurting small businesses,” said Senator Rosen. “Tonight’s speech was not a display of leadership, it was political theater. Nevadans and all Americans deserve better – they deserve lower costs, access to affordable health care, and a president who actually fights for them.” Senator Rosen has repeatedly fought to lower costs for Nevadans across the board. She voted repeatedly to extend the ACA enhanced premium tax credits and worked tirelessly to find a bipartisan path forward to keep health insurance affordable. Last year, Senator Rosen helped introduce the Health Care Affordability Act to make the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits permanent. Senator Rosen has also voted to overturn cost raising tariffs on Canada and Brazil, and helped introduce the Tariff Transparency Act, which would require the U.S. International Trade Commission to study and publicly report on the economic effects of tariffs on Canada and Mexico– key trading partners for Nevada industries. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined Senate colleagues in a letter calling on Secretary of Interior Doug Burgum to halt efforts to separate wildfire management from land management agencies. The Trump Administration’s misguided plan to restructure firefighting efforts without Congressional approval could harm fire management in states like Nevada, exacerbate existing staffing shortages, threaten land stewardship services, and place billions of taxpayer dollars at risk. “We are concerned that the DOI is advancing a rapid and consequential restructuring of wildfire management without adequate analysis, transparency, or planning to prevent disruption during what is expected to be a significant fire season or to safeguard long-term wildfire preparedness,” wrote the lawmakers. “While consolidation could be an effective strategy to improve efficiency and coordination, the Administration’s approach risks diverting critical resources and funding away from land management agencies without any public plan to replace those capabilities. Equally troubling, the Department has not provided Congress with any information detailing how decoupling wildfire management from land management agencies is expected to improve the health of public lands, enhance communication and coordination, or better protect lives and private property from catastrophic wildfire.” “Mismanagement of fire management has life-or-death consequences and places billions of taxpayer dollars at risk. Suppression alone cannot be the sole strategy for addressing wildfire, and swift structural changes that undermine planning, prevention, preparedness, and recovery will only worsen outcomes,” the lawmakers added. Read the full letter HERE. Senator Rosen has been leading efforts to reduce wildfire risk and protect Nevada communities. Last year, she helped secure over $4 million in funding for wildfire prevention efforts in Nevada and announced over $2 million in funding to support wildfire prevention education. Senator Rosen also helped deliver nearly $28 million in federal funding from two laws she helped pass to help prevent wildfires, including in Washoe, White Pine, Douglas, Lyon, Mineral, and Elko Counties.
Bill Instructs Trump Administration To Prioritize Small Businesses; Requires Full Refund Of Illegal Trump Tariffs In 180 Days WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped introduce legislation that would require the Trump Administration to issue full refunds for importers, including small businesses, that paid fees because of his illegal tariffs. This comes after Trump’s tariffs were struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday by a 6-3 vote. To date, the Trump Administration has collected an estimated $175 billion in illegal tariff revenue, raising taxes on products from nearly every country on earth, and jacking up prices for American families. “As Nevadans were already being squeezed by high prices, Donald Trump intentionally and illegally bypassed Congress to implement tariffs that raised costs even more on hardworking families,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m glad to see the Supreme Court agreed that Trump’s tariffs were unlawful, and he must now refund the $175 billion illegally collected from small businesses, consumers, and hardworking families. That’s why my colleagues and I introduced a bill that would require Trump to return the money and prioritize those individuals and small businesses who have been hurt most by these illegal tariffs.” Senator Rosen has been a leader in the fight to overturn Trump’s reckless tariffs. Last year, she introduced a bill to eliminate tariffs on groceries and help lower food prices, but Senate Republicans blocked her efforts to pass the bill by unanimous consent. Senator Rosen has voted several times in the Senate to overturn Trump’s tariffs, including on Brazil and Canada. She has also joined colleagues in a series of amicus briefs calling on federal courts to strike down Trump’s illegal tariffs. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released a statement following the Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision declaring many of Donald Trump’s broad cost-raising tariffs illegal. A report from the Joint Economic Committee last year found that Trump’s tariffs, which he unlawfully implemented without Congressional approval, cost the average American family nearly $1,200 extra in 2025. “As Nevadans were already being squeezed by high prices, Donald Trump intentionally and illegally bypassed Congress to implement tariffs that raised costs even more on hardworking families,” said Senator Rosen. “Today’s ruling is good news for Nevada families and small businesses in desperate need of financial relief – and it should also be a wakeup call for Trump that the rule of law still applies to him. I was proud to be a part of the congressional effort urging the Supreme Court to repeal these unlawful, cost-raising tariffs, and I’ll keep fighting to do everything in my power to lower costs.” Senator Rosen has been a leader in the fight to overturn Trump’s reckless tariffs. ###
Yesterday, Senator Rosen Called On The Department Of Veterans Affairs To Immediately Overturn Harmful Policy WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released a statement in response to news that, following her push, the Department of Veterans Affairs will not implement its harmful interim final rule which could have decreased benefits for disabled veterans. The VA’s reversal comes after Senator Rosen called on the Trump Administration to immediately overturn the rule and keep our promise to the veterans who have served our nation. “When the Trump Administration announced their harmful new VA interim final rule, I joined veterans across the country in calling for its immediate reversal because it would’ve resulted in drastic disability benefits cuts for the men and women who served and sacrificed for our nation,” said Senator Rosen. “While I’m glad to see our efforts forced the Trump Administration to reverse course, this rule shouldn’t have even been proposed in the first place. This Administration has consistently shown a reckless disregard for the wellbeing of our veterans, but I’ll continue fighting back to make sure they have the benefits they’ve earned.” Senator Rosen has consistently worked to make sure veterans have access to the full benefits and services they have earned. Yesterday, she slammed the Trump Administration for the VA’s interim final rule which could have decreased disability benefits. Earlier this month, she joined her colleagues in a resolution to overturn another extreme Trump Administration rule ending abortion counseling and reproductive care for veterans, including victims of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk. Last year, Senator Rosen introduced a bipartisan bill to bolster access to health care for servicemembers and veterans and help eliminate delays in patient care, as well as a bipartisan bill to increase the availability of mental health services for veterans. Senator Rosen has also been working to pass her FORGOTTEN Veterans Act to ensure servicemembers and veterans who served at classified locations within the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) since 1951 have the same presumption of exposure as the Department of Energy employees they served alongside and are able to prove that they served there, so that they can finally get the PACT Act benefits they deserve following exposure to radiation and toxins. ###
New Trump VA Rule Would Lower Veterans’ Disability Rating If Medication Improves Symptoms WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) called on the Trump Administration to overturn a new VA rule that affects how the Department of Veterans Affairs determines disability compensation, which could result in decreased benefits for disabled veterans. The rule will require the VA to determine disability ratings based on veterans’ improvement with medication, rather than on their underlying conditions. “The Trump Administration has already put veterans’ services at risk through reckless mass layoffs at the VA – including the VA suicide hotline staff – and this new rule could further reduce support for disabled veterans through drastic benefits cuts,” said Senator Rosen. “This is a slap in the face to the men and women who served our nation. The VA needs to immediately overturn this harmful rule and keep our promise to our veterans.” Senator Rosen has consistently worked to make sure veterans have access to the full benefits and services they have earned. Senator Rosen’s Washoe County And Carson City Lands Bills Will Boost Economic Development, Support Conservation, And Improve Public Lands Management WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests, and Mining held a hearing in which they considered Senator Jacky Rosen’s (D-NV) Truckee Meadows Public Lands Management Act, commonly referred to as the Washoe County Lands Bill, and her Carson City Public Land Correction Act. This comes after Senator Rosen sent letters to committee leadership highlighting the importance of these bills and requesting the hearing. As the state with the highest percentage of public land in the nation, Nevada relies on federal legislation to make land available for development, including affordable housing, and other public purposes, like flood and wildfire mitigation, stormwater infrastructure improvement, and recreation. “High housing costs are making it difficult for far too many Nevadans to afford a mortgage or rent, and I’m doing everything I can to increase affordable housing options – including by making more land available for housing development to help lower costs,” said Senator Rosen. “I’ve worked with community leaders in Washoe County and Carson City to identify land that can be responsibly developed for more affordable housing, expand access to outdoor recreation, and support economic development, while permanently protecting hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands – and making sure proceeds from land sales stay right here in our local communities. The recent committee hearing on these bills was an important step towards their becoming law, and I’ll keep working to pass them.” The Carson City Public Land Correction Act will: Senator Rosen’s Truckee Meadows Public Lands Management Act will: As a Senator from the state with the highest percentage of public land in the country, Senator Rosen has worked tirelessly to improve access to and protection of Nevada’s public lands. In addition to her Washoe County and Carson City Lands Bills, Senator Rosen also introduced her Pershing County Economic Development and Conservation Act, which would expand protections for and improve the management of federal public lands in Pershing County and create new conservation and recreation opportunities. The Pershing County bill received a Senate hearing last fall, at her urging. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – As small businesses face an emerging worker shortage, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and John Curtis (R-UT) introduced a bill to help them train and hire more qualified workers. The bipartisan Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act will provide information and assistance to small businesses through Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) regarding how they can establish registered apprenticeship programs and work-based learning opportunities to train up and staff their businesses. The House companion to the Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act is led by Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06). “Small businesses are central to Nevada’s economy, and they’re currently facing a shortage of trained workers,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m committed to doing everything I can to help small businesses succeed, which is why I’m proud to introduce a bipartisan bill to help them hire more workers with the skills necessary.” “Small businesses are the backbone of Utah’s economy, but too many struggle to find workers with the right skills to meet modern demands,” said Senator Curtis. “By empowering entrepreneurs to train and invest in local talent, our bipartisan legislation will strengthen local communities and ensure our small businesses have the support they need to be successful.” “Small businesses continue to face real challenges in finding and training the workers they need. BPC Action applauds Sens. Rosen (D-NV) and Curtis (R-UT) for introducing the Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act,” said Michele Stockwell, president of Bipartisan Policy Center Action (BPC Action). “By giving small employers better guidance on apprenticeships and other work-based learning options, this bill provides practical support to recruit, train, and retain workers in a rapidly changing economy.” “Most small business owners don’t have the time or resources to identify opportunities that might lead to their own workforce improvements,” said Winnie Dowling, Nevada SBDC State Director. “Creating access to more work-based learning and apprenticeship program opportunities for smaller businesses, actually most businesses, is a new and innovative approach.” “Our research has found that more than half of small business owners said that they struggle to find workers with the right experience, skills, education and training,” John Arensmeyer, Founder and CEO of Small Business Majority. “Since most small firms lack the resources to develop workforce training programs on their own, legislation that would help small businesses establish registered apprenticeship programs would be a significant benefit to America’s job creators.” “The Reno + Sparks Chamber of Commerce is proud of Senator Jacky Rosen for co-sponsoring the Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act and know that if passed, will contribute significantly to our 2,200+ members’ ability to establish registered apprenticeship programs in various industries,” said Ann Silver, Executive Director of the Reno + Sparks Chamber of Commerce. “We have so many in-demand positions that remain unfilled and this bill would go a long way in enabling smaller businesses to create apprenticeships that lead to middle class wages and self-sufficiency for so many Nevadans.” “Small businesses are the backbone of the Nevada economy and workforce development is consistently a top area of concern for the employers the Vegas Chamber serves,” said Mary Beth Sewald, President & CEO of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. “Ensuring the Small Business Administration is providing our local businesses with the assistance they need to thrive will keep Nevadans employed, our workforce vibrant, and the economy stable. Senator Rosen’s Small Business Workforce Pipeline Act helps ensure this congruence of need and benefit and will be an asset to the Nevada business community if passed into law.” As a member of the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Senator Rosen has worked to support Nevada’s small businesses. Last year, she helped introduce the bipartisan Small Business Technological Advancement Act to cut red tape and help small business owners integrate digital tools into their businesses. She also introduced legislation that would require the Small Business Administration to maintain its website that contains centralized information for licensing and business permit information and materials for small businesses. Each year, Senator Rosen leads her Senate colleagues in pushing for robust funding to support small businesses and cut burdensome red tape. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that she introduced a resolution to make it the sense of the Senate that it opposes any presidential clemency for Ghislaine Maxwell. This comes after Maxwell’s appeal to Donald Trump for clemency in exchange for offering testimony that she claims would help Trump in relation to the Jeffrey Epstein matter. Senator Rosen aims to put her Senate colleagues on the record opposing this potential deal. “A federal jury found Ghislaine Maxwell guilty of participating in horrific crimes involving minors and enabling their abuse by Jeffrey Epstein. She is the last person on Earth who should ever be granted clemency by Donald Trump, yet he won’t rule it out. Trump has a history of pardoning criminals who have committed terrible acts – including those who attacked police officers – which is why I want to make sure the U.S. Senate sends a clear message to the White House that a convicted sex trafficker of minors should not receive any clemency,” said Senator Rosen. “If Leader Thune won’t bring this up for a recorded vote, I’ll do everything I can to try to bring this up on the Senate floor for passage by unanimous consent, as it’s my sincere hope we can all agree Ghislaine Maxwell should serve out her full sentence.” Full text of the resolution can be found HERE. WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined ten of her colleagues in sending a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Todd Lyons, and the Director of the Justice Department’s Executive Office of Immigration Review Daren Margolin, urging the Trump administration to halt misguided enforcement actions against minors and instead develop policies aimed at protecting them. “Since assuming office, the Trump administration has systematically targeted unaccompanied children for removal. Last year, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) went to the extreme length of attempting to remove a group of unaccompanied minors to Guatemala in the dead of night without a shred of due process,” wrote the Senators. “The Administration has also detained unaccompanied children in growing numbers, sent enforcement officials to the homes of children released from custody, lured children with payments to self-deport, and fined minors with hefty fees. The Administration’s cruel actions have gravely imperiled immigrant children and exacerbated fear among an already sensitive group. We write to urge you to halt misguided enforcement actions against minors, follow the law, and implement policies aimed at protecting this vulnerable community.” “Unsurprisingly, this Administration is breaking records for the deportation of young children. In April 2025, more than 8,000 children age 11 or under received a removal order—the highest monthly number in over 35 years.14 And in the first six months of the Administration, nearly 15,000 children under the age of four were ordered deported.15 The vast majority of these children did not have legal representation,” the Senators continued. “To make matters worse, the Administration has sought repeatedly to terminate the 1997 Flores Settlement Agreement, which sets minimum standards for the humane treatment of children in custody. It is unconscionable that this Administration believes that children belong behind bars and should be stripped of protections that ensure access to food, water, and other necessities while in detention.” “It has become clear that the Administration is engaged in a coordinated, multi-pronged effort to target unaccompanied minors and their families,” the Senators concluded. “These ill-advised actions are causing irreparable harm and trauma to vulnerable children. It needs to stop now.” Read the full letter HERE. Senator Rosen has been outspoken about her efforts to push back on misconduct from Trump Administration officials implementing the President’s mass deportation agenda. Earlier this month, she called for the impeachment of Kristi Noem and committed to voting against additional funding for ICE until significant reforms are enacted. Last year, she helped introduce the Protect Sensitive Locations Act, which would provide commonsense protections against immigration enforcement in sensitive locations like schools, hospitals, and churches. She also strongly denounced the Trump Administration for revoking a previously authorized TPS extension for immigrants from Venezuela. Additionally, Senator Rosen helped introduce legislation that would prohibit ICE officers and other federal immigration agents from concealing their identity during routine immigration enforcement operations. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined her Senate colleagues in a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to overturn the Trump Administration’s new extreme rule ending abortion counseling and reproductive care for veterans, including victims of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk. This extreme Trump rule rescinds a Biden Administration regulation, that Senator Rosen pushed for, which allowed veterans to access abortion care at their local VA health provider in these specific circumstances. “The Trump Administration’s extreme, anti-choice rule will ban abortion care for veterans even in the cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk,” said Senator Rosen. “Our veterans and their families have risked so much to protect our nation, and we owe it to them to defend their fundamental right to access reproductive care. I’m proud to be part of this effort to overturn Trump’s extreme anti-abortion rule.” Senator Rosen continues fighting to support women’s reproductive freedom. After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Senator Rosen joined her colleagues in sending a letter to the VA urging them to lift abortion restrictions for veterans and eligible dependents. She helped introduce the Right to Contraception Act, which was blocked by anti-choice Republicans last Congress. She also helped introduce the Let Doctors Provide Reproductive Health Care Act to protect doctors and other health care professionals from being prosecuted for providing reproductive care to their patients, as well as the Women’s Health Protection Act to protect reproductive freedoms in federal law. ###
Senator Rosen Became First Member of The Senate Commerce Committee to Call for Lutnick’s Resignation WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, released the following statement calling for the resignation of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick after Lutnick’s testimony to Congress confirming he visited Jeffrey Epstein’s island in 2012, despite Lutnick’s previous public claims that he cut off all contact with the convicted sex trafficker in 2005: “As more files from the Jeffrey Epstein case are released, I’m sickened by the extent of Epstein’s depravity and his connections to so many powerful people. Governments around the globe are being shaken by the mentions of their leaders in the Epstein files, and the United States should apply the same scrutiny to our leaders,” said Senator Rosen. “I was appalled to see that Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick was included in the files, and to learn that he clearly misled the American people when he claimed he cut off all contact with Epstein in 2005. As he has now admitted to Congress, Howard Lutnick continued to have contact with Epstein well after he was convicted in 2008 for soliciting a minor – and he even visited his island in 2012. I believe that to protect the trust of the American people and to uphold the honor of his office, Howard Lutnick must immediately resign as Secretary of Commerce.” In case you missed it from Axios: Dems demand Lutnick’s resignation over Epstein files ###
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement on the bipartisan bill she is helping lead to combat illicit gold mining in our hemisphere after it advanced out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The bipartisan U.S. Legal Gold and Mining Partnership Act would require a multi-year, comprehensive strategy from the U.S. Secretary of State to combat illicit gold mining in the Western Hemisphere. “Advancing this bipartisan bill is an important step towards developing a strategy to cut off a key source of funding for bad actors in the Western Hemisphere,” said Senator Rosen. “Cartels illicitly mine and traffick gold to fund their criminal activities, and collaboration between the State Department, partner governments, and the private sector can help us combat this and improve security and stability in our region.” Senator Rosen has been a leader in pushing back against illicit actors in the Western Hemisphere and supporting Nevada’s growing critical mineral industry. Her bipartisan No Hezbollah In Our Hemisphere Act, which advanced through committee, would direct the U.S. Department of State and other federal agencies to assess and counter Hezbollah’s influence in Latin America. Earlier this year, she also introduced bipartisan legislation to strengthen American STEM education and build a workforce pipeline to support our growing domestic critical mineral mining industry through the creation of a mining Fulbright exchange program. Senator Rosen helped secure a provision in the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act to grow the next generation of mining engineers, promote the use of critical minerals, and develop a secure and reliable supply chain. ###
