Voting rights are the foundation of every policy issue. If you care about healthcare, affordability, climate, or any other issue, you care about protecting our right to vote. When the Trump administration attacks that right, they're attacking that very foundation. We will not be silenced, and I will always fight to make sure every voice in the #FightingFifth and across the country is heard. Check out the rest of my conversation with Tavis Smiley here: https://t.co/H94gVwlUIf
158 days of gas above $4. A new record. Since Trump’s reckless war in Iran began, the average American household has paid an extra $2,000 in costs. You feel it at the pump, at the checkout line, and every time you sit down to try to make your monthly budget work. Working families in the #FightingFifth and beyond shouldn’t have to pay the price for this administration’s reckless decisions.
Looking forward to meeting you all at my upcoming Veterans Town Hall and Resource Fair in the #FightingFifth! Now, it’s our turn to fight for them. Register at https://t.co/eOUOmmICmF

On today’s edition of #SecureTheBallot, I’m highlighting an all-too-relevant op-ed I co-wrote with the one and only Ambassador Andrew Young on the past, present, and future of the fight for voting rights. As we continue this series, remember: our fight isn’t over. Protecting our democracy starts with making sure every voice is heard and every vote counts. Read our op-ed in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: https://t.co/2MSWmne7WI
Sustainability and equity belong in the same sentence. At our very first Atlanta Climate Week in the #FightingFifth, I brought the stories of our most marginalized community members to the forefront, reinforcing that innovation, climate justice, and social justice must always be intertwined. Happy Atlanta Climate Week to all my co-conspirators in climate action!
This raid is yet another example of Trump weaponizing the DOJ to target his political opponents. And it is no accident that this comes just weeks before an election in which Rep. Omar is on the ballot. This is a gross abuse of power coming from our highest office of government, and it is completely unacceptable. I stand with Ilhan.
We must take the time to honor our Tribal Nations and recognize the Muscogee (Creek) people, who have always lived, worked, and nurtured the beautiful land of Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District. It is crucial that we reckon with our past to ensure a better future for EVERYONE who calls the #FightingFifth home. I will never stop fighting for you.
Trump continues to abuse the power of the federal government in attempts to threaten, silence, and intimidate his political opponents. This is an egregious escalation in his racist, hate-fueled agenda targeting Congresswoman Omar. I stand with Ilhan.
Pride is a celebration of who we are and a reminder of what we continue to fight for. Proud to stand with the #FightingFifth in the fight for freedom, justice, and equality for ALL. 🏳️🌈 https://t.co/hv8XkgPlUq
Happy Georgia Pre-K Week from the #FightingFifth! I visited The School for Creative Achievers to read "I am Enough" by Grace Byers. Because it is never too early to remind our little ones that they are worthy, capable, and "like the sun, they're here to shine." https://t.co/zYxfwKAF7G

Nearly 7 million Americans live in homes that need significant repairs. That’s why I co-authored a letter urging HUD Secretary Turner to put the funds for the Whole-Home Repairs Act to work — funds we secured through the historic 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. Because safe, healthy homes shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Families in the #FightingFifth and across the country deserve better.
The #FightingFifth is home to some of the most influential talent in music, so I loved meeting with the Atlanta Chapter of the Recording Academy. We had a thoughtful conversation about the emerging role of AI in the music industry and what it means for creators. I always want to hear from those shaping Atlanta’s music community and bring their voices to Congress.
Georgia’s voting system complies with state and federal law and has undergone rigorous testing and certification. Efforts to cast doubt on Georgia’s elections are nothing but tactics designed to deter voters and preemptively silence them. Georgia conducts some of the most robust post-election audits in the country, which repeatedly confirm the accuracy of our election results. Georgians in the #FightingFifth and beyond can have confidence in our elections and in your vote.
Welcome to #SecureTheBallot — my new series about the fight for our right to vote and what it means to protect that right today. We’re starting here in the heart of the #FightingFifth with my friend, mentor, and predecessor, the late, great Congressman John Lewis. Because before we talk about casting your ballot, we need to remember the people who fought to make sure you had the right to cast it.
Nonviolence helped change the course of American history in the #FightingFifth and beyond. Congressman John Lewis saw this firsthand. As a young activist, he helped lead a movement grounded in nonviolent action, and later, as a member of Congress, he introduced a resolution supporting National Nonviolence Week to raise awareness about youth violence. Today, as youth violence continues to affect communities across the country, we must carry that legacy forward. My resolution would establish this week as “National Nonviolence Week,” encouraging programs and activities aimed at raising awareness and preventing youth violence.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) joined U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) and U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) in a letter to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner urging an establishment of a Whole Home Repairs program through the Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes. The Members wrote: “Almost 7 million Americans live in homes that are in need of significant repair, with deficiencies including leaky roofs, faulty wiring, and mold. This is an issue that disproportionately affects America’s seniors, many of whom would like to downsize but do not want to sell the home at a steep discount due to the updates required. As we saw in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s successful Whole Home Repairs program, providing grants for repairs allowed seniors to sell larger homes to growing families.” The Whole-Home Repairs Act was signed into law with the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. The Whole Home Repairs pilot program will provide renovation and repair grants to homeowners and small landlords. This will help ensure America’s aging homes do not fall out of the housing supply. The Members continued: “The language in the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act authorizes you to operate a Whole Home Repairs program through 2031. We want to show the nation that repairing America’s crumbling homes is not a red or blue issue. Creating greater access to housing is an American issue. Any delays will mean millions of American families may never realize the benefit of this program. We were proud to help the Whole Home Repairs bill become law, and we stand ready to support you in making it a reality for Americans.”

Breaking down barriers between young people and the ballot is exactly why I introduced the Youth Voting Rights Act — to make sure polling places are available on university campuses in the #FightingFifth and across the country. The right to vote is under attack, and we have to do everything we can to make every voice heard, and that includes our college students.

The Annual Senior Ball was a beautiful evening celebrating our #FightingFifth seniors who paved the way! This year’s theme, “Legacy, Honor, and Elegance,” was truly on full display. 💙 I will always fight to ensure our community’s seniors have the resources they need to thrive! https://t.co/pPYYCUbYPD
Our Service Academies offer more than just an education; they provide teamwork, discipline, and perseverance-all virtues that help our #FightingFifth students succeed. I truly enjoyed spending the afternoon with #FightingFifth students, celebrating them and cheering them on as they explore new opportunities. The deadline for Service Academy nominations is November 2. Learn more here: https://t.co/fO29zg21Et
From packing 1 million meals to feed our neighbors and celebrating 160 years of service at Central United Methodist Church to welcoming transit leaders and fighting for better maternal healthcare, it was another busy week delivering for the #FightingFifth. Catch up on it all in this week’s #NikemasNotes!
