Last weekend, I joined Pastor Paul Bains, Police Chief James Reifschneider, and Hall of Famer Steve Young to celebrate the opening of the new Palo Alto Public Safety Building. Thank you to Daryl Savage, Jon Goldman, Steve Emslie, Jeff Traum and the entire Palo Alto Police Foundation for bringing us together and supporting officer wellness.
Thank you to Mayor Emily Ann Ramos and the Mountain View City Council, led by Councilmembers Kamei and Showwalter, for joining communities across our region in using their local authority to push back against ICE infrastructure in our community.
BREAKING: Last night, the City of Mountain View unanimously passed an interim ordinance restricting the construction of new ICE detention or custodial facilities.

At the Silicon Valley African Film Festival, I spoke with filmmaker Kenan Moos about his award-winning documentary, Diagnosing Healthcare. The film combines lived experiences with expert perspectives to examine racial disparities in healthcare, with a particular focus on maternal health. Thank you, Kenan, for putting your creativity to work on such an important issue.

We don’t talk with Beijing about AI safety because we trust them. We talk with them because the alternative can be catastrophic—for us and for them. The current approach, though, puts political leaders at a table without any likelihood of getting anything done that will mitigate risk.
This is outrageous. Whatever anyone thinks of Ilhan’s views on any subject, she is a member of Congress, and most importantly, a US citizen.
@ABC The Justice Dept and this Administration have now demonstrated just how un-American they are.
California’s history began long before statehood. For generations, indigenous communities have shaped our state, cared for our lands, and preserved their histories and traditions. Today, we celebrate their enduring contributions, resilience, and the many ways they continue to shape our country.
@SMLTrader Yes, and that goes for this Administration. She’s a US citizen who is being persecuted as a political opponent by a lawless Justice Dept.
@Cartel_Cal Yes, which is why (if you read carefully) I said “most importantly, she’s a US citizen.” She’s been one for more than a quarter century, longer than Elon Musk. And it’s only relevant that she’s a member of Congress because she’s a prominent political opponent being attacked by an authoritarian regime.
Finally….
Let’s celebrate the indigenous communities whose histories, cultures, and traditions that remain an integral part of California’s identity.

Ukraine has been fighting our war for us. We should give them any missile interceptor they need.
@CShawBurn No. I expect she’ll be treated like any US citizen, which she has been for more than a quarter century—longer than Elon Musk.
I don’t think they agreed…
Ilhan has been a US citizen for more than a quarter century—longer than Elon Musk. This weaponization of our Justice Department is unAmerican and despotic. I call on my Republican colleagues to join us in demanding immediate congressional oversight, and consequences for those immigration officials unwilling to carry out their oath to uphold the Constitution.
@ElGatoSusio . First, in the 2026 DNI national threat assessment, Russia is described as of the two greatest state-based cyber threats to US national security (see p16). Taking out their data centers helps us. Second, Russia is helping Iran w/ targetting of US soldiers, according to several public accounts, esp with satellite imagery. Third, if Ukraine falls, a NATO nation will be next—and we have a treaty commitment to defend NATO countries against Russian aggression. https://t.co/xDVhvM1JQB…
@rmeinhardt A few different ways, Rob. Third, if Ukraine falls, a NATO nation will be next—and we have a treaty commitment to defend NATO countries against Russian aggression. https://t.co/Inils2Fpuy
Betraying Ukraine by propping up Putin economically is such an awful idea that even long-compliant GOP Senators are forced to say so just to keep their seats in contested midterms. This is exactly why so many of us refused to be duped by Trump’s claims about the Russian sanctions bill a month ago. Even more atrociously, he threatens Zelenskyy over Ukraine’s tactics while refusing to help him fight the war with interceptors or enforcement of sanctions. Eisenhower is rolling in his grave.
So are elections in America….and Ukrainians have done a better job selecting their president than we have…
@RealStevenJBass Good point
