Happy to 251st Birthday to the U.S. Navy! Thank you to all our sailors for your service and sacrifice for over two centuries. It is because of the bravery of the men and women who defend our seas that American sleep peacefully at night. ⚓️🇺🇸 https://t.co/0QMfJUPKeo

Press Release
DESJARLAIS MEETS WITH COLLINS, DISCUSSES PLANS TO KEEP MCMINNVILLE VA OPEN FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE

Congressman Scott DesJarlais met with Secretary Doug Collins today and received news that the McMinnville VA Clinic will remain open for the foreseeable future. In March, it was announced that the McMinnville VA Clinic, operated by a private contractor, would be closing its doors on May 31st. Through persistent efforts and engagements with Secretary Collins, local leaders, VA staff, and community partners, Congressman DesJarlais expressed his concern about the lack of transparency and the impact this closure would have on those receiving VA care in the district. The VA cited that the clinic was underperforming. As a result of these discussions, in May, Secretary Collins agreed to keep the clinic open through December 31, 2026. Today, in partnership with the VA, DesJarlais announced the McMinnville VA clinic will remain open under VA management and staff. Secretary Collins thanked Rep. DesJarlais for his persistence in helping the VA find a solution to continue to provide high-quality service to veterans in Warren and surrounding counties. Collins and DesJarlais discussed plans to staff the McMinnville facility with full-time VA employees moving forward and improve the quality of care. “I am proud of the joint effort put forth by my office and Secretary Collins’ office to keep the McMinnville VA Clinic open for the foreseeable future. This is great news for the veterans of Tennessee’s Fourth Congressional District. I want to thank my constituents for their patience and perseverance over the last few months. Together, we have respectfully and relentlessly drawn attention to the importance of this rural healthcare facility. Thank you to Secretary Collins and his team for working with us to come up with a solution to not only keep the clinic open but improve the level of care for all its patients,” said Rep. DesJarlais. Congressman DesJarlais says that he and his staff will continue regularly checking in with Secretary Collins, VA staff, and his constituents to ensure the clinic is being run successfully. ###

One year ago today an act of political violence took the life of a young husband, father, and leader. This is not who we are as a nation and certainly not what we want to be. Civil political discourse is a freedom our great country allows. Acts of violence over disagreements will never be acceptable.

Today, I oversaw a portion of the @HouseGOP debate on H.R. 7008, the Stop Insider Trading Act. This legislation enacts strict reporting requirements and policies regarding a lawmaker’s ability to buy and sell stock. Americans deserve the utmost confidence that members of Congress are not engaging in insider trading deals.
