President Trump’s unauthorized war in Iran may be one of the biggest blunders in American foreign policy history. None of the stated objectives have been met and the consequences for us are racking up. I’ll do everything I can in Congress to rein it in. Listen to more Q&A from 72 and Sunny at the link in my bio.
With reports of increased ICE activity in San Diego, it’s important for everyone to understand the rights everyone is entitled to regardless of immigration status. I recently hosted a Know Your Rights training and I hope it can be informative for our community members ⬇️ https://t.co/bA1wtWYcaT
San Diego County is home to more recognized Tribes and Reservations than any other county in the country. On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor their histories, cultures, traditions, and enduring contributions that make our community stronger every day. https://t.co/3PVlIFnrQO
Coming out is personal and courageous. On National Coming Out Day, I celebrate those who live openly and authentically and I send support to those still on their coming out journey. I will always fight for our LGBTQ+ community to live without fear of hatred or discrimination. https://t.co/Qo0vAHR4Cu
This is barbaric and disturbing. Public executions are something oppressive dictatorships do, not free and fair democracies.
Team Peters can and did this week 😎💪 https://t.co/toh5tR97pj
I have been introducing bill after bill (like our Speed and Reliability Act, BIG WIRES Act, and CLEAR Act) trying to get the Energy and Commerce Committee - under Republican leadership - to pay attention to our volatile energy prices and failing grid for years. And I have the receipts to prove it! Here I am in January 2023, talking about the need to drastically speed up the build out of high voltage interregional transmission. But guess what happened after this... nothing. 2/4 https://t.co/bRyWympN4O
The Energy and Commerce Committee had chance after chance to weigh in and add their perspective on these reforms and for years, they chose to do nothing. I’m grateful that the Senate filled that void so we can fix our broken permitting system and supercharge our grid, which is too old, too dumb, and too small. House Republicans had their shot; Chairman Guthrie shouldn’t stand in the way of progress now. 4/4
We only got a short hearing on this topic in the last few weeks of September 2026 and we never acted on any of the bills or ideas discussed. Now, Senate leaders have worked together and produced a package that will address many of the challenges we face, including meeting our surging energy demand, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, competing with countries like China, and harshly regulating data centers. 3/4
I’m glad Chairman Guthrie wants to be involved in the grid and permitting reform conversation now, but he’s late to the party. It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Senate took the lead after he and House Republicans declined to act on the bipartisan bills and ideas that I and others have been pushing. 🧵 1/4
Welcome home to the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln! After an unprecedented and challenging deployment, I’m glad they’re safe and reunited with their loved ones. Today, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we continue to investigate what went wrong and how we can ensure these mistakes are never made again.
Officials were working on fire mitigation efforts before the 2025 Los Angeles fires. The permits took too long, and it had devastating consequences. My Fix Our Forests Act would have granted those permits in 6 months, not 4 years. Learn more about it at the link in my bio. https://t.co/oHbGf0DFSM
Today marks 3 years since the horrific Hamas attack on thousands of innocent Israelis. Since then, the rise of antisemitism around the world, the devastation in Gaza, and the suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians has been inhumane and unacceptable. A better, more peaceful and secure future for all must be pursued through diplomacy - not more war.
Great news: San Diego will receive hundreds of millions of dollars to support nonprofits providing vital mental health programs for our veterans. With recent, horrific mental health failures sounding the alarm, this funding couldn’t come at a more critical time. 1/2 https://t.co/R3ESsWeKe9
Part of keeping our promises to those who serve is caring for their invisible scars as much as their visible ones. These grants will expand access to suicide prevention education, peer support, outreach to at-risk veterans, clinical services, and more. San Diego is home to over 175,000 veterans. I will always work to ensure they and thousands more across the country are empowered to reach out and get help from their community. 2/2
988 is a lifeline for people in crisis and I’m relieved to hear it’s finally available again for LGBTQ+ youth. As a Co-Chair of the @equalitycaucus, I celebrate this achievement and will keep working to ensure this resource never goes dark again. https://t.co/PcuyVzc6Ud
Federal methane standards have enormous benefits. They protect public health, curb the climate crisis, create jobs, and bolster our national energy security. Repealing these regulations will make it easier for fossil fuel companies to prioritize profits over the health and safety of our people. This is a step in entirely the wrong direction, at exactly the wrong moment. https://t.co/1ORNR9mLY4
San Diego is a proud military town, home to 115,000 courageous active duty servicemembers and their families. Military service is at the root of our community and culture. This month we await the return home of the sailors and marines still stranded on the USS Lincoln for months thanks to Donald Trump’s reckless war in Iran. America knows San Diego is not a “small price to pay” for his inability to resolve it.
@BPC_Bipartisan @XanFishman Congratulations!
I wrote the Fix Our Forests Act and the Save Our Sequoias Act to protect our public lands for people to enjoy for years to come. In the newest episode of 72 and Sunny with Megafire Action CEO Matt Weiner, I talked about how they’ll become law. Listen to the full episode at the link in my bio!
smh
Kinda retro but I still like it.
Trump is the most corrupt, lawless president in our history. Your taxpayer dollars should be spent to make your life better, not to tout the President’s failing agenda. What happened to eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse?
Laurie from Point Loma needed help updating her pension and health insurance after her husband passed away. Due to staffing shortages at OPM, her case was stalled and she hadn’t heard from anyone. My office requested an update on her behalf and within weeks, her benefits were adjusted appropriately!
Despite its growing significance to national security and the economy, the federal government does not adequately protect biotechnology infrastructure or sensitive biological data. Washington, D.C. – Last week, U.S. Representatives Scott Peters (D-CA), Ro Khanna (D-CA), and Stephanie Bice (R-OK), as well as U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-IN) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) introduced two bipartisan bills to protect biotechnology data and infrastructure from malicious actors. The Protecting Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing as Critical Infrastructure Act and the Protecting Biological Data as Critical Infrastructure Act aim to recognize life science infrastructure and sensitive data as critical infrastructure, ensuring robust cybersecurity and cross-sector protection. The legislation directs Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to designate facilities and systems handling genetic and biometric information as critical and requires collaboration with industry stakeholders to develop coordinated security protocols. Biotechnology infrastructure spans several critical sectors, including health, agriculture, and industry, yet current policy doesn't explicitly recognize or fully protect it. Biological data, which fuels research breakthroughs and often contains sensitive personal information, isn't treated as a strategic national resource either. Some federal efforts are underway, but they're scattered and leave major vulnerabilities. “Biotechnology is a major driver of San Diego’s economy, employing 167,000 members of our community and generating $55.2 billion in economic output just last year,” said Rep. Peters. “America’s leadership in the sector is a strategic advantage we cannot take for granted. As technology advances and our adversaries grow more capable, American national security, public health, and competitiveness will continue to face more serious threats. Our legislation will strengthen America’s biotech ecosystem against cyber threats, supply chain disruptions, and other vulnerabilities. To maintain our leadership in biotechnology, we need to make sure that the United States remains a safe place to innovate.” “Protecting biomanufacturing infrastructure and the most sensitive biological data of Americans is essential for our national security,” said Rep. Khanna. “These bipartisan bills will help ensure we are protecting this sector from physical and cyber threats while keeping America as the world leader in biotechnology.” “Biological data is one of America’s most valuable strategic resources,” said Rep. Bice. “It is the foundation for new discoveries and an increasingly important driver of innovation at the intersection of AI and biotechnology. Recognizing biological data as critical infrastructure is a vital part of protecting sensitive data from those who could exploit it.” In its April 2025 report to Congress, the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (NSCEB) assessed that malicious actors will increasingly target the biotechnology sector’s infrastructure and data. Critical biotechnology infrastructure, such as hospitals and agricultural facilities, have already faced numerous cyberattacks. Biological data are not currently treated or protected as a strategic national resource. Both bills reflect NSCEB recommendations. A detailed summary of the bills can be found here. ###
