Wait a minute. Dave’s a “soft yes” on building MORE data centers in our community? Well, that clears things up. Thanks, Data Center Dave.
Thank you Sterling for inviting me to speak at Pueblo Unido Day. Proud to support our Latino community in Virginia. #HispanicHeritageMonth https://t.co/pdC2wJ0iTO
Republicans are running scared. My opponent didn’t bother to show up to last night’s candidate forum because he didn’t want to face hard questions. But hundreds of thousand of Virginians have already shown up to the polls. So make your plan to vote. And maybe Republicans will make a plan to face the music at the next debate. 🤞
We are proud to have worked with the VFW Post 7728 and TACOM to secure a Sherman tank in honor of a true hero. Cpl Robert Overkott Sr. fought in WW2 and operated a Sherman tank himself on D Day. I hope this tank can serve as a symbol to those who drive by of what service, bravery, and heroism is. Thank you to anyone who has served and to our current servicemembers who have sacrificed so much for us.

So Trump's "deal" with Russia is to: -pay Russia to import diesel (which won't lower energy costs) -so that they can take the money and bomb Ukraine -and use it to help Iran bomb Americans and our allies Why are we here? Because House Republicans refused to let us vote on a stronger sanctions bill. Instead, they passed an optional one, and this is the result. We need new leadership in Congress FAST.
Here are the other countries that carry out public executions: Iran North Korea Afghanistan Also ISIS and other terrorist groups. This is un-American. Call it off.
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), Ranking Member of the Military and Foreign Affairs Oversight Subcommittee, issued the following statement on the Pentagon’s announcement that they would be livestreaming the firing squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan. Nidal Hisan killed 13 people at the Fort Hood military base in 2009. “Regimes in Iran, North Korea, and ISIS carry out public executions, not America. Nidal Malik Hisan should face consequences, but livestreaming his execution is blatantly un-American and against what our country stands for. When we do this, we lose our moral standing on the global stage and set a horrible precedent. The Administration must stop this, and Secretary Hegseth needs to be removed. History will not judge this action kindly,” said Ranking Member Suhas Subramanyam. ###
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) shared new, alternative routes for the Golden to Mars transmission project in a letter to the Virginia State Corporation Commission (the Commission). The letter requested the Commissioners consider these new routes and work with federal partners to reexamine the project. The current Golden to Mars route selected by the Commission runs through community members’ backyards and near schools. Rep. Subramanyam has consistently stood up for Northern Virginia communities facing encroaching power lines and data centers. “All of the official routes proposed for Golden to Mars are invasive and impactful on our neighborhoods. Before even considering putting transmission lines over backyards and schools, we need to make sure every possible alternative has been explored. That’s why I have had conversations about this project with local and federal partners, and we’ve come up with three new alternative routes. These routes work better for everyone, and I am calling on the Commission to explore them. It is absolutely critical that the Commission works with the community to find a better path forward. We need to put our community first,” said Congressman Subramanyam. View the letter with new route maps here. ###
This report builds on our Oversight Committee investigation and the recent air safety report. We know what safety measures need to be implemented. I will continue to stand with the families of Flight 5342 and urge Congress to pass comprehensive aviation safety legislation now.
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), Ranking Member of the Military and Foreign Affairs Oversight Subcommittee, issued the following statement on USS Abraham Lincoln’s return home after the end of a record long deployment. “I am thankful for the return of the servicemembers aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. They and their families have paid an unnecessary cost for Trump’s endless war of choice with Iran. They deserve all of our respect and support. During the USS Lincoln’s deployment, servicemembers endured a record number of days without a port call. They faced insufficient amounts of food, unfit living conditions, and inadequate mental health support. I will continue to advocate for the respect and safety of our troops. We have a duty to make sure this never happens again by holding the Pentagon accountable, ” said Ranking Member Subramanyam. In August of this year, Oversight Ranking Member Robert Garcia and Congressman Suhas Subramanyam demanded answers from the Department of Defense (DOD) about conditions on the USS Lincoln. In the letter to DOD Secretary Hegseth, the Ranking Members asked for information on the inventory of food, medical supplies, and other critical resources for the sailors and Marines. They also asked for clarification on the timeline of when the USS Lincoln would be relieved by another aircraft carrier. The letter can be found HERE and below. ### Dear Secretary Hegseth: We write regarding the conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, specifically, the living conditions and access to mental health resources for the sailors. Recent reports have revealed disturbing sanitation conditions, food shortages, and deteriorating mental health among those deployed on the aircraft carrier, including multiple suicide attempts, with one sailor jumping overboard. Our sailors deserve better while they serve our country, and these deplorable conditions negatively impact morale and readiness. As Members of Congress, we have a duty to support our troops, and it is clear that additional oversight is needed aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. The USS Abraham Lincoln holds more than 5,000 sailors and Marines and departed San Diego last November. Now redirected to the Middle East to support the Iran War in Operation Epic Fury, the carrier has been deployed for over 250 days and has spent a record-setting 200 consecutive days at sea. At a town hall with Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao, families of those aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln voiced their concerns directly. Among them were food shortages, water contamination, and disruptions in mail. As the Ranking Members of the Oversight Committee and the Oversight Committee’s Subcommittee on Military and Foreign Affairs, we request a classified briefing on the USS Abraham Lincoln’s conditions and answers to the following questions by August 28, 2026: What is the current inventory of food aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln? Please detail the food supply and delivery schedule over the course of the carrier’s deployment. What sanitation issues have been identified aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, including broken bathroom facilities? What health care, including mental health care, are available to the sailors aboard? What behavioral health care professionals are on board and accessible to those seeking help? How quickly can someone on board the ship meet with a behavioral health care professional after seeking help? What steps can be taken to mitigate the disruptions to the mail system that sailors have experienced? Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao reportedly told family members that the USS Theodore Roosevelt is preparing to relieve the USS Abraham Lincoln. Without jeopardizing national security, what details can be shared about the timeline for the ship’s relief? The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is the principal oversight committee of the House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X. If you have any questions about this request, please contact Committee Democratic staff at (202) 225-5051. Thank you for your prompt attention to this request.

Three years after Hamas’ horrific attack, we mourn the 1200 lives lost and 250 hostages taken and keep their families in our thoughts and prayers. This conflict has taken a devastating toll on the region, and I will continue to advocate for long-term peace.
We need a Congress that works for the people, not the President. https://t.co/JB094Rf2WU

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) announced an award of $1.5 million in federal grants for the mansion and outbuildings of the fifth President of the United States, James Monroe. Oak Hill, located in Loudoun County, has been preserved for hundreds of years and provides the local community and visitors access to American history and educational programming. Earlier this year, the Virginia General Assembly approved Governor Spanberger’s budget amendment to designated Oak Hill as a State Park. That amendment was championed by Senator Russet Perry and Delegate John McAuliff. “Oak Hill is an important part of our history and has survived hundreds of years. This funding will ensure it can continue to live on for generations. I am proud that federal funding will help maintain and preserve this historical landmark. I look forward to seeing people of all ages in our community and across the world visit Oak Hill for many years to come,” said Congressman Suhas Subramanayam. “For more than two years, we fought in Richmond to make Oak Hill a state park and protect more than 1,200 acres of Loudoun County and President Monroe’s historic home. We got it done, and now the work is making sure Oak Hill has what it needs to thrive for the long term. This $1.5 million in federal funding will help us do that, and I’m grateful to Congressman Subramanyam for securing these resources and being a partner in Oak Hill’s future. I’m looking forward to continuing this work and getting Oak Hill State Park open to the public,” said Senator Russet Perry. "Oak Hill will be an enormous investment in the quality of life and conservation of Western Loudoun by opening up over 1,200 acres of farm and forestland for recreational use. The new funding secured by Congressman Subramanyam and State budget language provided by Gov. Spanberger ensures this land and history will be treasured by generations to come," said Delegate John McAuliff. “Oak Hill stands as a powerful reminder of our nation’s founding story, and these grants ensure that story will be preserved for generations to come. We’re grateful to Rep. Subramanyam and our federal partners at the National Park Service for recognizing what this site means – not just to Loudoun County, but to the story of our nation as we mark 250 years of independence,” said Heather Richards, Mid-Atlantic Vice President, The Conservation Fund. Of the $1.5 million in grants for preservation and restoration, $750k from Save America’s Treasures and $750k from Semiquincentennial grants. View the NPS announcements of funding here and here. ###
These are experts who live in our communities, raise their families here, and have built their careers around work that benefits all of us. I’m going to keep pushing to get this funding where Congress intended it to go: to the researchers and institutions doing this work.
The $67 billion Dominion-NextEra Merger could raise costs for Virginians and reduce competition in the power market. I have voiced my concerns, and you can make your own voice heard too. There’s an upcoming public comment hearing this Friday at 6 p.m. at the Fairfax County Government Center. It threatens important research and puts highly skilled careers at risk. And it could push talented people out of Northern Virginia, taking years of expertise with them.
In Northern Virginia, many of my neighbors work in federal science and research. They’re scientists, researchers, engineers, and analysts doing work that matters to our health, our economy, our national security, and our future. So when the White House withholds $1.4 billion that Congress appropriated for research, the consequences are felt right here in our community.
Matt K. Lewis of the @WashingtonSun wrote about how he almost never votes for Democrats, but he is this year. He says Trump is a greater threat to his conservative values and policy preferences than any Democrat. And he’s right. We need to welcome Republicans like Mr. Lewis and support their efforts to stamp out MAGA extremism.
FAIRFAX, VA — Congressman Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), Congressman James R. Walkinshaw (VA-11), House Administration Committee Ranking Member Joe Morelle (NY-25), and members of Virginia’s Democratic congressional delegation held a public shadow hearing Thursday in Fairfax to confront the Trump Administration’s attacks on voting and detail efforts to defend every eligible American’s right to cast a ballot and have it counted. Panelists outlined litigation, voter education and safeguards countering interference, intimidation, and misinformation. The hearing examined the Administration’s attempted overhaul of mail-ballot processing, federal demands for sensitive voter information and concerns about armed immigration agents at polling places. The experts explained how litigation blocked the mail-voting rule and detailed ongoing efforts to protect voter privacy and prevent intimidation. In his remarks and responses to lawmakers, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay outlined safeguards against duplicate voting, secured ballot drop boxes and the county’s use of paper ballots and scanners without internet connectivity. The discussion emphasized that protecting election integrity and ensuring access to the ballot go hand in hand. “This Administration has threatened to cheat and exhaust every option to diminish our free and fair elections. In these unprecedented times, I am proud to stand together with my colleagues and voting rights organizations to protect the voices of all Americans. We will ensure every vote, regardless of party, gets counted this November. We will not be intimidated,” said Congressman Suhas Subramanyam. “Where the Trump Administration is sowing fear and confusion, we’re providing facts and defending the right to vote. We came together in Fairfax to make clear that every eligible American, no matter who they support, can cast a ballot with confidence,” said Congressman Walkinshaw. “I’m grateful to Ranking Member Morelle for joining us and proud to stand alongside my Virginia colleagues and the voting rights leaders doing this work every day. We will keep fighting to protect every vote and ensure the American people decide who represents them.” "In this moment, there is nothing more urgent than protecting American democracy,” said Ranking Member Morelle. “The election is here and we are protecting Americans’ right to the ballot box. Every time the Trump Administration has tried to interfere with the integrity of the midterm elections, they have lost. Over the next month, we need to remain clear-eyed about the threats we continue to face. We will fight to protect American elections. Failure, quite simply, is not an option.” "Over the last two years, the Trump Administration and the Supreme Court have levied various attacks against the right to vote," said Congressman Bobby Scott, Ranking Member of the House Education and Workforce Committee. "Unfortunately, Congressional Republicans have been unwilling to take a stand against these actions. Democrats are fighting to defend everyone's right to participate in our elections, and this hearing demonstrates the urgency of this fight." “My own family struggled, fought, bled and in some cases died for the right to vote,” said Congresswoman McClellan. “We have seen repeated efforts by the Administration to undermine the electoral process and the constitutionally protected right of millions to vote. Election integrity means protecting our election systems from foreign interference and unlawful voting, but it also means protecting every citizen’s right to vote, free of intimidation, free from discrimination. We cannot have an America that goes back to the days when propaganda, violence and voter suppression were used to keep all of the people from participating in their government.” “Every eligible voter should be able to cast their ballot without fear, intimidation, or unnecessary barriers,” said Congressman Vindman. “Our democracy works when voters know their voices will be heard and their votes will be counted. I’m proud to stand with my Virginia colleagues, local election officials, and voting rights advocates to protect access to the ballot, safeguard voter privacy, and ensure every eligible Virginian can make their voice heard.” The panel included Chairman McKay; Skye Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward; Omar Noureldin, Senior Vice President for Policy and Litigation Strategy at Common Cause; Rev. Dr. Cozy Bailey, President of the Virginia State Conference NAACP; and Jessica Jones Capparell, Director of Government Affairs at the League of Women Voters of the United States. The experts urged voters to check their registration, make a plan to vote and consult trusted election officials. View photo gallery here. Watch the full hearing: C-SPAN. ###
