Thank you to the Coalition of Slavic and Eastern European Organizations for visiting my office and for your advocacy. I will continue to fight this administration’s inhumane immigration policies and support programs that assist immigrants and refugees. https://t.co/K4yg1cGxi7
Great news for Oregon! We cut the ribbon for the PSU Jordan Schnitzer School of Art + Art History + Design, where students will learn, creativity will thrive, and artists will connect with the community. And it’s made with mass timber! As a strong advocate for arts education, I enthusiastically welcome this new addition to PSU and Portland.
A public execution by firing squad is bad enough, but live streaming it would demean us as a nation. There is no doubt that the man in question committed a heinous crime, but this kind of spectacle goes against our values. I join many members of the military and the faith community in condemning this plan and I am callling on Secretary Hegseth reverse it. https://t.co/lEFHagZLtq
Everyone deserves accessible health care, and cuts from HR1 (Republicans’ Big Ugly budget Bill) are endangering Oregonians’ health care access and funding to places like CAP NW. I will keep fighting until Oregonians have access to the care they need with the safety and dignity they deserve. @EqualityCaucus @HouseDemocrats
Donald Trump and his corrupt administration are abusing power and weaponizing the Department of Justice against Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. This baseless pre-dawn raid of the Representative's home just a few weeks before a federal election is outrageous and dangerous. I stand with @Ilhan against this despicable act of political intimidation.
On Indigenous Peoples’ Day we recognize and honor the histories, cultures, and traditions of Indigenous communities and Tribal Nations that shape and strengthen our nation. https://t.co/9Wu77ye9uz
It was an honor to celebrate two former colleagues whose work on transportation shaped our state and nation. Representatives Blumenauer and DeFazio spent decades fighting for policies and resources to support multimodal transportation—including bike infrastructure—and Oregon is a better place because of them. It’s fitting for their work to be celebrated with a mural at the Portland Airport @trimet MAX station.
Today I participated in the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer's at the @OregonZoo with @alzorswwa. #EndAlz #WalkToEndAlzheimers https://t.co/BCI9gu7tFd
We've seen an alarming increase in detentions and ICE activity across Oregon. I conducted a congressional oversight visit at the ICE Processing Facility in Portland with my colleagues @RepDexterOR and @SenJeffMerkley. This ICE surge is not making our communities safer. Their tactics are designed to intimidate and cause fear, and that’s exactly what's happening. Despite this, Oregonians are working together to care for friends and neighbors targeted by ICE. I stand with you and I will not stop demanding answers and working to get my constituents back home with their families.
I just conducted a Congressional oversight visit at the ICE processing facility in Portland with @RepDexterOR and @SenJeffMerkley. ICE is not making us safer and this surge is increasing fear in the community. I encourage everyone to make a safety plan and take care of each other. I will not stop advocating for safe communities, due process, and humane immigration reform.
Today we celebrated the completion of repairs on the Tillamook jetties, essential infrastructure that keeps mariners, fishermen, boaters, and the US Coast Guard safe. https://t.co/WOAENRLLpL
Congratulations to the team that opened the brand new youth drop-in center, The Drop, in St. Helens! It is encouraging to see that students now have a safe place to study, build community, and receive needed services. https://t.co/wZEPke5wv2
PIVOT Job Corps in Portland is supporting young people and getting them ready to enter the workforce. I met with educators and students at PIVOT and discussed their Medical Administrative Assistant program. I will always fight to protect Job Corps because it's a critical pathway to a job and stability.
Happy #HispanicHeritageMonth! This month is a time to celebrate the cultures, traditions, and countless contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities across Oregon and the US. To all the Hispanic and Latino small business owners, local leaders, artists, educators, professionals, and public servants - we are a better and stronger country because of you. #HHM

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, along with U.S. Representatives Suzanne Bonamici, Andrea Salinas, Val Hoyle, and Maxine Dexter, today announced more than $4.3 million in federal awards to support public safety programs across Oregon. “It is absolutely essential to ensure communities across Oregon are safe, and young people are able to get the support they need in times of crisis,” Wyden said. “These federal grants will help support local police agencies, youth support programs and resources for foster youth. I’ll keep fighting to secure the federal resources Oregon communities need to thrive and stay secure.” “Every Oregon community needs the resources to keep young people safe, support children who have experienced abuse and neglect, and build stronger relationships between families and those who serve them,” said Merkley, who helped secure funding for these community-initiated projects as a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “These federal investments will expand mentorship and opportunities for young people, ensure children have access to critical advocacy and medical services, and strengthen public safety infrastructure in several communities across the state. I’ll keep fighting to bring these federal resources home to Oregon and support the local organizations working every day to make our communities safer.” “Beaverton’s Behavioral Health Court is doing important work to help people with mental health challenges who encounter the justice system and put them on a path to recovery,” said Bonamici. “I’m grateful this grant will support this initiative, improve lives, and make our communities safer.” “Investments in emergency response capabilities strengthen our communities,” said Hoyle. “This funding for the Cottage Grove Police Department will replace aging equipment and bolster our emergency preparedness, prioritizing public safety and making it easier for officers to do their jobs.” “Every child deserves to be safe, cared for, and heard. I’m thrilled to have helped secure over $2 million to protect children across Oregon. Because of this funding, children who have experienced abuse or neglect will not have to navigate some of the hardest moments of their lives alone. They will have an advocate in their corner and a safe place to turn to when they need emotional or medical support. I’m proud to see these federal dollars coming home to support the people doing this vital work in our communities,” Salinas said. “Our young people deserve to grow up safe, supported and hopeful about their future,” said Dexter, M.D. “I fought hard to bring this $1 million investment to Gresham because children deserve opportunities to succeed. This funding will connect them with mentors, workforce readiness and programs that prevent and reduce involvement in violent crime and strengthen public safety efforts for youth and families in East Multnomah County. Investing in our children makes Oregon stronger.” The $4.3 million in federal awards from the Department of Justice’s Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grants program will be distributed as follows: $1.05 million to the City of Gresham to expand the East Multnomah Outreach Prevention Intervention initiative to prevent and combat juvenile delinquency, reduce youth involvement in violent crime, and strengthen coordinated public safety efforts for youth and families in East Multnomah County. $1 million to Liberty House in Salem to increase medical clinic services to children who are victims of abuse or neglect in Marion and Polk Counties. $1.03 million to the Oregon CASA Network in Salem to support its work to provide foster children the advocacy and support of an assigned Court Appointed Special Advocate. $500,000 to the City of Beaverton to support the Behavioral Health Court program that targets defendants with criminal cases in the Beaverton Municipal Court who are the top utilizers of legal, jail or emergency room services living in the Beaverton area. $800,000 to the City of Cottage Grove to support modernizing the Cottage Grove Police Department fleet and communications infrastructure to facilitate a department-wide transition to community-oriented policing practices. “This funding will support Court Appointed Special Advocate programs across the state in recruiting and retaining volunteers who provide advocacy, encouragement, and a sense of stability to children impacted by abuse and neglect,” said Stephanie Brown, State Director, Oregon CASA Network. “Our advocates are in every corner of the state, getting to know the unique needs of each child they serve, and advocating for them in court, in school, and in the community. We appreciate the efforts of our elected officials to make this valuable investment in Oregon’s future which will help many of the state’s most vulnerable reach their full potential.
I'm working with Senators Merkley and Wyden to resolve this issue so residents and businesses get their mail in a timely manner. If you're experiencing issues getting your mail, please contact my office at 503-469-6010. https://t.co/jgmCmYuIeY

Everywhere I go in NW Oregon, I hear about the need for more affordable housing. I’m excited to support the work being done at Terminal 2, where several small companies are working with mass timber and other innovative housing production materials to lower costs and make homes more affordable, resilient, and sustainable.
Many students are parents, so access to affordable child care is essential to them being able to stay enrolled and earn a degree. The Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) program helps colleges provide campus-based child care, but this year @usedgov awarded 100 fewer grants than anticipated and none went to Oregon’s colleges or universities. Student-parents are working hard to earn their degrees and should have the support they need. I’m demanding answers from the Department of Education.
The Treasury Department's school voucher regulations clearly demonstrate that the Trump administration has no interest in supporting public schools or the students they serve. Diverting public resources into private schools - including religious schools - that can pick and choose which students they enroll is unjust and irresponsible. Alarmingly, the regulations actually prohibit states from implementing additional oversight, reporting, accountability, or civil rights protections. The vast majority of students in this country attend public schools. We should be strengthening public education, not destroying it.
REMINDER: My Beaverton Town Hall Meeting is today. More information below. I hope to see you there! - Beaverton Town Hall Meeting TODAY, October 6th @ 7pm Arts and Communication Magnet Academy 11375 SW Center St., Beaverton For everyone’s safety and security, large bags and backpacks are not allowed at the town hall meetings.
