Thanks @socialsecurity, but our seniors need more than an extra $75 a month to survive Trump’s FAILING economy. Inflation sits at 3.7%. We’ve got $4 gas prices. Mortgages rates at 7%. All because of a war and tariffs that are saddling American families with more than $2000 in higher costs. Trump, it's time to end the war on Iran! Re-establish relationships with our trading partners! Restore Medicaid & SNAP funding! https://t.co/gVSGPf961u
The death penalty by livestream plan by Sec. Hegseth is so abhorrent and degrading even my Republican colleagues in Congress have vocalized their opposition. Trump can and should put an end to this now. https://t.co/stbfwAaufS
Children should not go to school hungry, leave school hungry, or go to bed hungry because Trump and MAGA Republicans care more about lining the pockets of their billionaire donors than feeding our families. #SNAPFacts https://t.co/n4D5MrQVgW
Yesterday, Ranking Member @BennieGThompson and I conducted an oversight visit to visit Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi — the nation’s largest migrant detention facility. We’re concerned about families being detained without knowledge of their charges, the continued denial of due process, and inadequate access to sanitary food, water, and health services. Regardless of a person’s station in life, they are still human and deserve safe living conditions. We will continue oversight of these facilities until Trump stops weaponizing ICE to harm immigrant families.
62 years ago, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. received the Nobel Peace Prize. At only 35 years old, he was the youngest recipient at that time. The brilliance of his non-violent approach to the Black struggle against legal oppression, and an entrenched racial hierarchy in America changed hearts, laws, but most importantly, lives. His leadership inspires the fight our nation and world face: a fight for equal representation, a world where we breathe clean air, and a nation our children can truly call home.

As AI technology advances, it’s our job to secure cyberspace from security threats, protect American families, and continue to foster innovation. Ranking Member Thompson and I are reintroducing the CISA AI Task Force Act, which will establish a task force within the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) dedicated to addressing the safety and national security challenges that come with AI technology.
The American people deserve security on all fronts —with cybersecurity being more vital than ever in an increasingly AI-impacted world. https://t.co/rjvfME5D9m
No family should have to choose between paying the rent and buying groceries. But that’s a choice Trump’s SNAP cuts keep forcing families in Louisiana and across America to make. #SNAPFacts https://t.co/QM73TzMLwc

WASHINGTON, D.C. – WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr. (D-LA) released the following statement regarding the pre-dawn raid of the residence of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) by federal agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE): “I stand with Ilhan. The raid of Congresswoman Omar’s home is an unprecedented escalation in Trump’s weaponization of the federal government against his political opponents or anyone who disagrees with this administration. Despite Congresswoman Omar standing for reelection in a few weeks, federal agents swarmed her home in violation of longstanding Department of Justice norms of avoiding the appearance of political bias in the 60 days before elections. But the President does not care about appearances when it comes to vilifying and launching racist attacks against Congresswoman Omar and the entire Somali American community in Minnesota. Americans deserve a full account of this abuse of power by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice, and I will use my position on the House Committee on Homeland Security to fight for transparency and accountability for all involved.” ###

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the strength, courage, and contributions of Indigenous peoples to our communities in #LA02 and to communities all over the country. In the 19th century, many Black people escaping enslavement in Louisiana were hidden by local Native American tribes. This blend of cultures gave rise to many of our city's traditions and customs we know and love today. I know that my district wouldn’t be the place it is today without the enduring traditions, histories, culture, food, and celebrations of Indigenous Peoples.
Happy #NationalGumboDay! Gumbo brings friends, family and strangers together - unless we’re arguing about whose is best (it’s mine!)! https://t.co/HjMXZwVxkm

Your life & legacy live on through us, Sir! @naacp @urbanleaguela @TheBlackCaucus @RPCoalition @TheRevAl
This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week! Awareness is step one in healing so many Americans suffering from mental health issues. My grandmother used to ask me, “Are you feeling blue?” That small conversation helped normalize discussions about mental health and remove the shame. This week, let’s recommit to having the difficult conversations, addressing barriers to care, breaking down stigmas, increasing access to culturally competent care, and ensuring everyone can find a mental health professional they can trust.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr. (D-LA), Member of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, and Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, re-introduced the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Securing Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force Act. This legislation will establish a task force within the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) dedicated to addressing safety and national security challenges posed by AI. The task force and reporting requirements will ensure effective DHS coordination as AI threats and challenges evolve. Recently, Rep. Carter appeared on CNBC to discuss how to regulate AI while preserving innovation. “As technology advances in sophistication and use, our commitment to safeguarding against emerging threats and ensuring the responsible advancement of AI technologies must grow stronger too,” said Congressman Carter. “I’m introducing the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Securing AI Task Force Act to take an essential step towards managing the impact of AI on our cybersecurity landscape.” “Advancements in AI technology are expanding by the day and we need to make sure our cybersecurity defenses are moving with it,” said Ranking Member Thompson. “This bill creates a dedicated CISA task force so the agency can better understand the risks that come with AI and make sure we are prepared to protect the systems and infrastructure Americans rely on every day. I am proud to work alongside Representative Carter to reintroduce this critical legislation and help ensure our defenses are ready for what comes next.” Background The CISA Securing AI Task Force Act would: Establish a Task Force - Within one year of enactment, the Director of CISA will establish a Task Force comprised of personnel from various offices and divisions to coordinate AI-related directives and activities. Address AI Challenges - The Task Force will ensure coordination of efforts to improve the safe and secure design, development, adoption, and deployment of AI. It will assess relevant safety and security initiatives, advise stakeholders on potential cyber risks associated with AI deployment, and identify workforce gaps. Increase Accountability - The Task Force will provide biannual briefings to the Committee on Homeland Security of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate on its activities. Trump cut money for SNAP through his BIG UGLY LAW. He put tariffs on countries that feed our families. He started a war of choice with Iran, and prices rose at home. Now, people can’t afford to put food on the table, countries won’t deliver food to the U.S, and SNAP is no longer a lifeline to help so many hungry families. Trump’s squeezing the American people from all sides. @EnergyCommerce
