I've been getting a lot of questions about my Stop Congressional Self-Enrichment Resolution, which closes a loophole allowing members of Congress to get rich off of taxpayer dollars. Here's ONE example of how this loophole works.👇 1️⃣ A Member of Congress requests taxpayer funding for a new park & playground next to an apartment complex their family owns. 2️⃣ The new amenities make the apartments more attractive to renters. 3️⃣ The family raises rent & profits off the taxpayer-funded upgrade. This allows them to financially benefit INDIRECTLY from those taxpayer dollars. 🚨 THE LOOPHOLE: Under current rules, Members must certify they have no direct financial interests in the funding. But INDIRECT benefits are not explicitly covered. My bill would require Members to certify that they have NO FINANCIAL INTERESTS whatsoever when requesting federal funding. It’s your money they’re dealing with, & it should be treated with the utmost respect & transparency.
