My Jimmy Deal Trafficking Survivors Assistance Act is about one thing: making it easier for victims of human trafficking to escape to safety. I’m grateful to my friend Jimmy Deal for his fight on behalf of survivors, and in his memory, I will keep working to expand the program he pioneered to save lives across the country.

Small businesses are struggling to keep their doors open because of the extra costs Donald Trump has imposed on them. Trump needs to end his reckless war in Iran, revoke his chaotic blanket tariffs, and start putting Americans first for a change. https://t.co/yEyeRmydKe
Democrats and Republicans agree here: President Trump's deal to buy oil from Vladimir Putin is a betrayal of our Ukrainian partners and our values as a country.
Proud to have secured this funding for Nevada law enforcement that will support search and rescue operations, domestic and sexual assault prosecutions, and key public safety projects. I know how much our officers do every day to protect Nevadans, and I will always have their back.
Bill Pulte is under investigation for abusing his authority to accuse Donald Trump’s political opponents of mortgage fraud. Meanwhile, he’s slashing the department in charge of investigating real mortgage fraud. @SenWarren, @SenateBanking, and I are calling on Chair Scott to bring Pulte before the committee to answer for these abuses.
Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined Congressman Steven Horsford (D-Nev.-04) in urging Spirit Airlines CEO Dave Davis and Google CEO Sundar Pichai to protect the privacy of thousands of former Spirit employees. The letter responds to the proposed $10 million sale of Spirit’s internal data to Google for the purpose of training artificial intelligence (AI) systems. “According to publicly available court findings, the proposed sale would involve an extraordinary volume of Spirit’s internal records, including approximately 100 million emails, 500 million Microsoft Teams messages, employee records, timecard records, payroll and tax information, and employment contracts,” the lawmakers wrote. “This information was created and provided in the context of an employment relationship and may contain highly sensitive information about individual workers. Consumers have more privacy protections than workers, yet Spirit has collected far more private information about its employees than about its customers.” “While we understand that Google has stated that it will not receive personally identifiable information and that the data will undergo third-party scrubbing before its transfer, we are concerned that conventional de-identification safeguards may not be sufficient to protect employee privacy in the context of modern artificial intelligence,” they continued. “Removing names, email addresses, or other direct identifiers does not necessarily make a dataset anonymous. As we have seen time and time again, artificial intelligence systems have been able to identify patterns across large datasets, connect seemingly unrelated pieces of information, and potentially infer or reconstruct information about individuals or identifiable groups.” “Innovation should not come at the expense of workers’ privacy or the confidentiality of information they were required to provide as a condition of employment,” they concluded. “The unprecedented scale and sophistication of modern artificial intelligence make it particularly important that privacy protections keep pace with the technology. We therefore urge Google and Spirit to address these concerns and establish meaningful, enforceable safeguards before the proposed transaction proceeds.” The full text of the letter can be found here. Senator Cortez Masto has stood up for Spirit Airline’s displaced workers and has been a champion for consumer privacy. At the start of Spirit’s bankruptcy proceedings, she demanded that employees receive their earned wages and accrued benefits. The Senator has also worked to ensure AI innovation includes strong guardrails to protect American’s privacy and national security. Last year, her legislation to prohibit American investment in Chinese AI companies was passed into law. When President Xi Jinping visited the United States, Cortez Masto urged President Trump to negotiate a formal agreement with President Xi for the development, testing, and use of AI models. Cortez Masto is also leading legislation to crack down on robocalls and robotexts, which are more common and dangerous with the use of AI. ###
Reno, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) hosted a press conference alongside the owners of Süp, R-Town Pizza and dough.cheese.sauce, and Chop Stop to discuss how the current economy, high costs, and chaos are harming their businesses. The Trump Administration’s blanket tariffs and war in Iran have raised the cost of food, gas, and other goods significantly. “Pushing back against the Trump Administration’s policies that are driving up costs up for these restaurants shouldn’t be political. We have to work together to undo these harmful policies and provide real relief for American families and small businesses,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I’m grateful to Kasey, Marvin, and Steve for joining me to talk about the challenges they’re facing.” Senator Cortez Masto has consistently supported lowering costs for working families in Nevada. Following her consistent pushes to repeal the coffee tariffs, the Trump Administration decided to exempt certain imports not grown in the United States – like coffee – from the disastrous blanket tariffs. Earlier this year, Cortez Masto introduced the Lowering Home Energy Costs Act to help everyday Americans lower their energy costs by putting money back into their pockets if they make their homes more energy efficient. She has introduced legislation to help combat high gas and energy prices in Nevada and across the country and joined Senator John Curtis (R-Utah) as the Democratic lead on legislation to help lower gas prices in the West. ###
Nevada is home to 28 recognized Tribes, as well as our urban Native communities and Indigenous people in every corner of our state. Today, I’m proud to celebrate Indigenous People’s Day to recognize their incredible cultures, achievements, and history. As we mark this day, I will continue working to deliver for Indian Country and to ensure that every family has the opportunity to succeed.
Nevada families and businesses have had to pay over $2.5 billion since Trump imposed his tariff taxes last year. After he promised to lower costs “on day one,” his actions have directly raised costs for all of us.
Nevada, early voting starts in just 1 week – make a plan now to get out and vote at https://t.co/RNQoeOKxQm. Every single vote matters, and together, we’re going to elect Democrats up and down the ticket who will fight for working families.
This kind of reckless conduct is completely unacceptable. I am demanding a full and independent investigation immediately. More than that, I’m demanding accountability at every level. The Trump Admin.’s moves to gut training, eliminate standards, and ramp up this cruel mass deportation agenda hasn’t made us safer - it’s directly led to dangerous incidents like these.

We should be able to trust that our elected officials are working for us. That’s why I’m fighting for oversight and legislation to hold officials accountable if they betray the public trust. (2/2) https://t.co/n2BLd4RCOK
We cannot start funding Putin’s war machine against Ukraine because the President is desperate to distract from his failures. The Senate passed legislation to sanction Russian oil buyers just three weeks ago. That is the law, and the President needs to follow it.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) introduced the Bringing the Discount Window Into the 21st Century Act, which would direct the Federal Reserve to report to Congress on ways they can modernize the discount window and concerns they have identified with the current system. The discount window is the main way the Federal Reserve helps banks manage their liquidity needs. “As we continue to be the financial hub for the world, America’s financial institutions need to ensure they have enough money on hand to meet their needs,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “In order to maintain an innovative and robust financial system, it’s critical that the infrastructure supporting them, like the discount window, is brought into the 21st Century.” “The discount window serves as stable source of short-term funds for local banks. This helps stabilize short-term cash in a reliable and accepted format,” said Senator Rounds. “Our legislation would strengthen and modernize this tool, helping the discount window work better for institutions when they need it most.” Read the bill here. Senator Cortez Masto has pushed bipartisan legislation to increase the Federal Deposit Insurance cap on deposit insurance, allow credit unions more flexibility when lending for non-primary residence loans, and reform the Federal Home Loan Banks to ensure they continue to invest in housing and community development. Cortez Masto is also leading bipartisan legislation to ensure that big bank executives are not allowed to collect massive paychecks and bonuses, disregard prudent risk management, and walk away scot-free if the bank goes under. ###
The Trump Administration’s delays have left hundreds of foster children in Clark County without Social Security cards. That means these children can’t get permanent placement with loving families, federal health coverage, or even their first job. This is unacceptable, and I am pushing the Administration to fix it now.
Corruption raises costs in every corner of our lives and it’s a betrayal of the oath public officials take to the American people. While the Trump Admin. is the most corrupt I’ve ever seen in my lifetime, the truth is this issue didn’t start when he took office. (1/2) https://t.co/dWCWsRd0XP
Remember: Republicans in Congress cut Medicaid for working families to help pay for tax breaks for the ultra-rich. While your costs are soaring, their priority is taking care of the wealthy and big corporations. https://t.co/SHVbx7hdlQ
.@SenJackyRosen and I released a report detailing how Nevada Latinos are being squeezed by Trump’s reckless, chaotic policies. See more for yourself: https://t.co/MD4h8bpzqf
Latinas help power Nevada’s economy and deserve paychecks that reflect the value of their work. When Latina workers are paid less, families have less money for groceries, housing, and their children’s futures. As we mark Latina Equal Pay Day, I will keep fighting to make sure every woman in Nevada receives equal pay for equal work.
Trump’s economy has been a disaster for Latino Nevadans: https://t.co/CGQw3ePdfV
Gas is over $5 a gallon. Millions of Americans are losing their health care because of Donald Trump and Senate Republicans. The cost of basic necessities is soaring because of Trump’s tariffs and recklessness. This president couldn’t be more out of touch.
The level of corruption we’re seeing every day should outrage all of us – public officials should work for the American people, not billionaires and special interests. I’m fighting to lower costs, protect our rights, and take on those like the Trump Administration who only want to benefit themselves while working families pay the price.
Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) secured $2,422,000 in grants for law enforcement projects. The funding comes from the Department of Justice’s Byrne Jag Grant Program and will be distributed to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the City of Henderson, and the Nevada Department of Public Safety. “Local law enforcement is the backbone of public safety in Nevada, but too often our officers are being asked to do more with less,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “From improving training to modernizing equipment, this critical funding will support police officers from Reno to Henderson. I’ll never stop working to deliver for local law enforcement and ensure all Nevadans feel safe in their communities.” “Our law enforcement officers work around the clock to keep Nevadans safe, and I’m committed to supporting them in any way I can,” said Senator Jacky Rosen. “I am proud to have helped secure this funding for law enforcement agencies across our state to ensure that they have the equipment and training they need to keep us safe.” Three grants constitute the $2,422,000 in funding: $1,031,000 for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s (LVMPD) Air Support Equipment Enhancement Protect. This funding will be used to modernize essential air support equipment to improve the Department’s airborne law enforcement, search and rescue, and emergency response operations. This grant is on top of $1 million in federal funding the Senators secured for LVMPD’s Air Support Unit earlier this year. $1,031,000 for the City of Henderson to support law enforcement responses to and prosecutions of nonfatal strangulation cases, increase the local forensic examination capacity, and improve protective and medical services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. $360,000 for the Nevada Department of Public Safety for new law enforcement training technology for departments throughout the state. Senators Cortez Masto and Rosen have consistently stood behind Nevada’s law enforcement. They have fought for funding for the Byrne JAG grant program, the source of these grants and the leading source of criminal justice funding in the country. Cortez Masto and Rosen introduced legislation to redirect excessive funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to local law enforcement. Last year, Cortez Masto’s bill to ensure the families of retired law enforcement officers killed as a result of their service have access to benefits was signed into law and her legislation to strengthen public safety in Indian Country passed the Senate. She is leading bipartisan legislation to combat human trafficking along America’s interstates, airways, railroads, and waterways. ###
