CHARLESTON, S.C. – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Darline Graham (R-South Carolina) led a roundtable discussion in Charleston with U.S. Congressman Russell Fry (R-South Carolina), U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche, South Carolina U.S. Attorney Bryan Stirling, members of the South Carolina law enforcement community, and Logan Federico’s father, Stephen Federico. The discussion centered around Logan’s Law and efforts to reduce violent crime. On Logan’s Law: GRAHAM: “This is a difficult topic to discuss, but Logan came here [to South Carolina]. She was an aspiring teacher from North Carolina. She came to visit a friend in Columbia and was murdered during the middle of the night. Such a horrible situation and my condolences to you [Mr. Federico]. I just cannot imagine what you are going through. And my understanding, it was a lack of data sharing. It could have been prevented. This murderer should have been in jail.”https://www.youtube.com/live/gXwZhhvPB5M?si=6zQkjQHYdK8hzFN1&t=145 GRAHAM: “As a co-sponsor of Logan’s Law, I have an 18-year-old daughter at home. She’s going away to college next year. I can assure you, I will put everything I have into this law and help with Russell [Fry], work on it to get it passed. This is my new passion.”https://www.youtube.com/live/gXwZhhvPB5M?si=EnVaLyE10TnCmkjM&t=1163 On the success of the FBI’s Operation Summer Heat 2.0: GRAHAM: “One of the things I really want to highlight is Operation Summer Heat 2.0 that the Columbia FBI office finished this summer. The results are absolutely amazing. They speak for themselves. There were 80 arrests and 16 kilograms of cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana, and methamphetamine taken off of our streets. That is amazing. Keeping South Carolina safer. The arrests were up 156% from last year. Again, keeping South Carolinians much safer. So, we appreciate your assistance with that and keeping our state safe.” https://www.youtube.com/live/gXwZhhvPB5M?si=WxqZS8jQdqYpym9V&t=82 On takeaways from the roundtable: GRAHAM: “I think what we’re taking away today is, is there room for improvement? Absolutely. And you have the commitment from me on a federal level to continue moving forward Logan’s Law and to help get some resources back to local law enforcement to help...” https://www.youtube.com/live/gXwZhhvPB5M?si=fFdcD4sj6eTFrV0E&t=2537 Click here to watch the entire roundtable. ###
