The latest reporting suggests this strategic snafu may have occurred more locally within DOD Starshield systems, not with Starlink or SpaceX. I’m not holding my breath for Defense Secretary Hegseth to offer transparency, so we’ll be asking the DOD Inspector General to initiate an investigation and report back to Congress and the American People. Meanwhile, both Ukrainian civilians and U.S. diplomatic and security personnel were placed at unnecessary risk and without warning. At best, this was an unacceptable error or lapse, and at worst a conscience decision to clear the field for a Russian attack.

.@elonmusk please tell me these overnight disruptions to Starlink terminals in Ukraine were unintended - that @SpaceX is doing everything it can to fix a temporary glitch. I'm confident this does not reflect a change in SpaceX policy because if so, intentionally degrading Ukraine's ability to defend itself might be construed as aiding and abetting a mass murderer. Can you confirm that's not SpaceX’s intent? Ukrainians simply want to live in peace. They did not ask Putin to bomb their homes, schools and hospitals. They do not want Putin to kidnap and brainwash their children. They are not interested in destroying energy infrastructure - in Ukraine or in Russia. They only want to defend their country and live their lives. Supporting Ukrainian sovereignty - or at the very least, allowing for it - should not be a gray area for the U.S. government or for American corporations. Can you clarify the SpaceX position? https://t.co/cPtszYRzSz

We should be holding Putin accountable for his aggression, not helping fund his war against Ukraine. That’s why I joined my colleagues in calling on the administration to reverse course on Russian diesel imports and uphold the sanctions Congress put in place. https://t.co/IaBEhuiPpD

Following recent heavy rainfall across North Carolina, my team and I are closely monitoring rising water levels and local flood warnings in the mountains. With our communities still rebuilding after the catastrophic impacts of Helene, we know how vulnerable these areas remain. Please follow instructions from local emergency management, avoid flooded roadways, and stay safe.

Hasan should face the death penalty, but making his execution public and streaming it? Beyond disgusting. Public executions are what oppressive dictatorships like Iran and Afghanistan do. It should not be happening in America.

Today, we remember the innocent lives lost in Hamas’ horrific attack on Israel three years ago. We must never forget the evil we witnessed on Oct. 7 or the pain so many families continue to bear. I remain committed to standing with our friend and ally Israel and supporting its right to defend itself.

I commend the Office of Inspector General for its comprehensive analysis of the Fed’s renovation costs. While the report makes clear there was no fraud or criminal wrongdoing by the Fed or any member of the Board, it also makes clear there should have been better procedures and project management expertise for a project of this scale. The entire federal government, from the executive branch to entities with statutory independence like the Fed, has an obligation to be transparent and good stewards of taxpayer dollars. I appreciate Chair Warsh’s commitment to both protecting Fed independence and inviting Congressional oversight.

On the second anniversary of Helene, we remember the lives lost and the families whose lives were forever changed. Western North Carolina has made great strides in recovery, thanks to the resilience of its people and those who have stood beside them. But much work remains. I will continue fighting to ensure North Carolinians are not forgotten and that WNC receives the support it needs to be made whole again.

President Trump is right: communism is an inhuman ideology that brings only death and destruction. Vladimir Putin is the latest authoritarian carrying forward that brutal Soviet legacy, aligning with Iran and North Korea to undermine democracy. We have seen the savagery of that ambition firsthand in Ukraine. "Win-win" strategies work in the private sector, but there is no middle ground between freedom and totalitarian aggression. We cannot accommodate a dictator bent on destroying sovereign democracies. American strength and resolve are the only answers.

In the aftermath of September 11th, our NATO Allies invoked Article 5 for the first time in history to answer the call to defend freedom. We will never forget the 2,459 American servicemembers and 1,100 coalition servicemembers, including 457 from the UK and 158 from Canada, who made the ultimate sacrifice serving in Afghanistan. America remains forever grateful to Allies for answering the call and for their sacrifice.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11th, I am reminded of the remarkable story of Operation Yellow Ribbon. When American airspace closed after the attacks, more than 6,500 stranded travelers were welcomed by the people of Gander, Newfoundland who housed and fed them until the crisis was over. In our darkest hour, our Canadian neighbors demonstrated extraordinary compassion.

I thank @SecArmy Dan Driscoll for his leadership to our Army and service to our country. Dan was the right man at the right moment to lead our Soldiers and Army civilians. Our understanding and assumptions of warfare are being challenged in places like Ukraine and Iran, and Dan understands the old way of doing business no longer applies. He and General George began a transformative period of innovation in how we array our forces and equip our Soldiers. He challenged our legacy approach to manning and procurement. Most of all, he cared deeply about the men and women in our Army formations and quickly earned their respect. If we had a @SecWar who maintained the same priorities and forward-thinking, he would be fighting to retain talented leaders like Dan and the many flag officers he has forced into retirement. Instead, he is creating a leadership void at the top of our military ranks. I served on Senate Armed Services for 8 years and as chair or ranking member of the Personnel and Readiness subcommittee. I have never witnessed more inept management of the brave men and women who serve our country. He is intimidated by competence and retreats to ginning up culture wars instead of soberly attending to the vital work of our national defense and the health and well-being of our fighting force. I urge the President to find a new leader at the Pentagon who will retain and empower our military talent rather than diminish it. https://t.co/M58gSjtpCr
