This report is damning. Debanking Americans over faith or politics is simply un-American. That’s why I led @BankingGOP to pass my FIRM Act out of committee to stop regulators from weaponizing “reputational risk.” Expect to hear more from the Banking Committee on this important issue when Congress returns.

Sens. Scott, Padilla introduce bill to bridge gap in veteran services

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) introduced the Building Readiness and Integration for Dependents Going to Civilian Environments (BRIDGE) Act of 2026, legislation to support military and veteran families during the transition from military to civilian life. This bill would establish a pilot program focused on practical tools, peer support, and community engagement to improve emotional, social, and financial outcomes for transitioning families. Thousands of service members leave the Armed Forces and face significant challenges navigating employment, healthcare, education, benefits, and community reintegration. While the Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program provides important pre-separation services, many military families still struggle to access personalized and coordinated support during this major life transition. This bill would establish a Department of Defense (DoD) pilot program to provide support through community connections and additional resources to assist service members and their families. This legislation also addresses the gap by providing whole-family support, building community connections, reducing isolation, and equipping families with the tools to thrive during and after the transition. “South Carolina is blessed to be home to thousands of our nation’s heroes,” said Sen. Scott. “The men and women of the Armed Forces – and their families who have sacrificed alongside them – have earned the best possible support as they transition to civilian life. The BRIDGE Act empowers local communities to provide military families with tailored assistance, because the best solutions are often built closest to home.” “For too long, the servicemembers and their families have had to navigate the transition from military to civilian life without the resources needed to thrive,” said Sen. Padilla. “We must do more to ensure that military families have the support they need after they leave active duty. Our bipartisan BRIDGE Act would create a pilot program to help us prioritize programs that focus on bridging the gap in services for veterans and military families.” The bill is endorsed by Blue Star Families, Wounded Warrior Project, American Legion, National Military Family Association (NMFA), Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). “Our 2025 Military Family Lifestyle Survey found that 58% of respondents described their transition from military to civilian life as ‘difficult’ or ‘very difficult,’” said Blue Star Families CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet. “The BRIDGE Act recognizes that successful transition requires personalized, whole-family support that helps families build long-term stability, resilience, and connection as they move into civilian life. We are grateful to Sens. Padilla (D-CA) and Scott (R-S.C.) for championing this legislation and for their continued leadership in support of military and veteran families.” “The BRIDGE Act recognizes that transitioning from military service is a major life change for both Service members and their families,” said Jose Ramos, vice president for government and community relations, Wounded Warrior Project. “By expanding access to personalized, community-based transition support, this pilot program helps address critical gaps in employment, wellness, and family readiness as military families move into civilian life. Wounded Warrior Project appreciates Alex Padilla’s leadership and urges Congress to advance the BRIDGE Act and help strengthen the Transition Assistance Program for future generations of Service members and their families.” Specifically, the legislation would strengthen transition support by: Establishing a three-year DoD pilot program at four military installations to provide community-based, whole-family transition support for service members and families transitioning to civilian life. Providing personalized services for service members within one year of separation and their families, including peer support, spouse employment assistance, skills training, benefits navigation, and dedicated transition coordinators to build individualized transition plans. Require DoD and Veterans Affairs (VA) coordination, prioritizing service members facing involuntary or accelerated separations, and requiring tracking of employment, financial stability, and family wellbeing outcomes with a final report to Congress. Senate passes three of Sen. Tim Scott’s bills to strengthen taxpayer protections

WASHINGTON — Three bills introduced by U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) unanimously passed the Senate as part of the Taxpayer Assistance and Service (TAS) Act, legislation aimed at modernizing IRS technology, strengthening customer service standards, and protecting taxpayer rights in disputes. Sen. Scott’s provisions include the IRS Accountability and Taxpayer Protection Act, the Tax Court Parity Act, and the Tax Relief for Innocent Spouses Act. “Hardworking Americans deserve a tax system that works for them, not against them. My three bills strengthen taxpayer protections and fix inconsistencies in our tax system so Americans are treated fairly,” said Sen. Scott. “By unanimously passing these commonsense reforms, the Senate is making it clear that the American people should not have to pay the price for flaws in our tax system. I’ll continue standing up for American taxpayers and fighting to help them keep more of their hard-earned money where it belongs – in their pockets, not the government’s.” The IRS Accountability and Taxpayer Protection Act aims to protect taxpayers from improper or automated penalties by requiring IRS employees to get approval from a supervisor before approving or denying penalties. The Tax Court Parity Act would protect taxpayers’ rights by granting the Tax Court the authority to review and correct decisions in prior cases in limited circumstances of clerical errors, newly discovered evidence, fraud or misconduct concerns, or defective judgments. Lastly, the Tax Relief for Innocent Spouses Act would provide innocent spouses relief from tax debts caused by their spouse’s hidden incomes or mistakes by allowing the Tax Court to review the full scope of evidence in appeal cases. This protection is essential for spouses facing domestic abuse or who lack access to financial information. Full text of the legislation can be found here. ###

The Opportunities for Nuclear Energy Investment Act that I introduced would create jobs, strengthen American manufacturing, and unleash American energy by encouraging private investment into the construction of new nuclear facilities. By creating more facilities, Americans will see lower energy costs and less influence by foreign countries over how we power our lives. It’s time for Congress to deliver on this goal! https://t.co/kJcLSAejEX

Sen. Tim Scott marks three years since Hamas’ October 7th terrorist attack on Israel

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) released the following statement marking three years since Hamas’ October 7th terrorist attack on Israel: “Three years ago today, Hamas terrorists committed an unimaginable act of terror, killing more than 1,200 innocent men, women, and children – including 46 Americans – and taking 251 people hostage,12 of them Americans. “Hamas murdered, raped, and took people hostage, carrying out the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. “Thank the good Lord there are no more hostages in Hamas captivity, but this battle of good versus evil is far from over. With antisemitism on the rise and nations condemning Israel, the United States must remain clear-eyed, standing shoulder to shoulder with our Jewish brothers and sisters and our ally, Israel. “We will not tolerate antisemitism in our communities, and we will never forget the atrocities Hamas committed.” ###

Sen. Tim Scott introduces legislation to encourage investment in new nuclear facilities, bring manufacturing back to U.S.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) introduced the Opportunities for Nuclear Energy Investment Act, which is designed to encourage investment into the construction of new nuclear facilities and bring grid equipment manufacturing back to the United States. “American energy dominance requires more nuclear facilities and a modernized energy grid,” said Sen. Scott. “The Opportunities for Nuclear Energy Investment Act would create jobs, strengthen American manufacturing, and unleash American energy by encouraging private investment in new nuclear facilities. Keeping production at current levels would leave our country dependent on foreign energy sources, but by expanding nuclear energy here at home, America can power our future and pave our own way forward.” The Working Families Tax Cuts established bonus tax incentives for nuclear energy, but they only applied to the production of nuclear energy and not to investments in new facilities. The Opportunities for Nuclear Energy Investment Act would address this imbalance by expanding the 10% bonus credit for nuclear energy production to include the building of nuclear facilities under Section 48E (48E), also allowing for non-metropolitan areas to qualify. In addition, the legislation would expand the 45X Advanced Manufacturing Tax Credit to include distribution transformers and larger power transformers manufactured in the U.S. to speed up grid modernization efforts. These transformers are necessary to deliver electricity to homes and businesses. Currently, both transformers are backlogged by approximately two years. Background: “Nuclear communities” represent areas where unemployment is above the national average and 0.17% of employment comes from legacy energy sources. Under this bill, construction jobs to build a new nuclear facility would count toward the 0.17% employment requirement to qualify for the 10% bonus credit. South Carolina is a top U.S. nuclear power producer and serves as home to four major facilities: Catawba Nuclear Station Oconee Nuclear Station H.B. Robinson Nuclear Plant Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station President Trump has called for 10 new nuclear facilities to be built within the decade and, to reach that goal, the nuclear community must be expanded. Endorsements: “The Palmetto Nuclear Coalition applauds Senator Scott’s leadership in advancing legislation to support investment in the next generation of nuclear energy,” said Ethel Bunch, founder, Palmetto Nuclear Coalition. “South Carolina has the workforce, infrastructure, and experience to lead this effort. Expanding energy community eligibility would help build on those strengths and attract new nuclear investment and jobs to our state. We appreciate the opportunity to work with Senator Scott’s office on this legislation and look forward to supporting its passage.” “Transformers are critical to meeting our nation’s rising demand for electricity and ensuring a safe, reliable, and resilient electric grid,” said Will Hupman, senior vice president for government affairs, National Electric Manufacturers Association (NEMA). “NEMA thanks Senator Scott for his leadership in including critical support for domestic transformer manufacturing in the Opportunities for Nuclear Energy Investment Act. This legislation ensures American-made transformers qualify for the 45X tax credit, strengthening domestic manufacturing while mitigating persistent supply chain challenges for distribution transformers. This approach will drive continued investment in U.S. production of critical electrical equipment needed to modernize our nation’s infrastructure to meet today’s growing demand.” Chris Colbert, chairman and CEO, Elementl Power, said, “We strongly support Senator Scott’s legislation to address critical gaps in the current energy tax credit framework. By extending the nuclear communities bonus to the investment tax credit, this bill builds on Representative Newhouse’s legislation from last year and will help accelerate the deployment of new nuclear plants to meet our country’s growing power demands, unlocking investment, job creation, and local economic growth in communities that have long supported America’s energy leadership. We look forward to working with Senator Scott and his Finance Committee colleagues to advance these necessary changes to section 48E.” Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe, executive vice president and chief executive officer, Duke Energy Carolinas, said, “Nuclear energy has helped power the Carolinas for generations. As more families and businesses choose to call the Carolinas home, always-on nuclear energy remains an important option for meeting our region’s growing energy needs while helping keep costs as low as possible for customers. We applaud Senator Scott’s leadership on policies that support potential new nuclear projects and a strong nuclear energy future.” “Meeting America’s growing energy needs will require investment across the energy ecosystem and the infrastructure that supports it. Eaton is investing $340 million in Jonesville, South Carolina to create 700 new jobs and help solve one of the grid’s most urgent challenges: manufacturing distribution transformers. Policies supporting energy infrastructure investment and domestic manufacturing can accelerate grid modernization and ensure reliable power for homes, businesses, and critical industries. We appreciate Senator Scott’s leadership in advancing policies to help build a stronger, more resilient energy system,” said Mike Yelton, president, electrical sector, Americas, Eaton. The full text of the bill is available here. ###
