María Elena Durazo, a Democrat, represents District 26 in the California State Senate, a seat she has held since December 2022 after previously serving District 24 from 2018 to 2022. She was born March 20, 1953, in Madera, California, and holds degrees from Saint Mary's College of California and People's College of Law. Before her legislative career, she worked as a trade unionist, serving as Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor from 2006 to 2014 and as Executive Vice President of the AFL-CIO's governing Executive Council; she also served as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2013 to 2021.
