John Barrett III, born 1947, is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 1st Berkshire district since taking office on November 15, 2017, after winning a special election to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Gailanne Cariddi. He previously served as mayor of North Adams for twenty-six years, from 1984 to 2009, during which time he was involved in efforts to revive the city's economy following the closure of Sprague Electric and supported the establishment of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
